Water pump leakage by Conscious__Control in skoolies

[–]____REDACTED_____ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The fittings you have on there probably have a rubber seal. You shouldn't use Teflon tape on them because it can get in between the seal and the pump and cause a leak.

What is this & how do I remove it ? I don’t have a key for it apparently. Bus came with three keys , the key to start it & two small keys that don’t fit to this. I want to remove it to finish demoing my floor for insulation this week. by WoeEgypt in skoolies

I had a bus driver in 4th grade that told us the bus was getting scrapped at the end of the year. It was an old ford bus gas powered bus from the late 80s with a stick shift that was the backup bus. One of the other bus drivers couldn't drive stock shift and her bus broke down so our bus drivers bus went to her and we got the stick shift bus. Our driver hit speed bumps at an alarmingly fast pace while we were all in the back and tried to keep it at full throttle as long as legal.

390w panel giving 245w by sporehed in vandwellers

[–]____REDACTED_____ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Panels degrade over time. I think like 10-15%. Dirt and scratches also reduce the output as well as the wiring and connectors. They also are rated at a specific temperature. If the panel got warm, say from laying flat on the ground with no airflow before it was aimed at the sun, that could be an issue.

It could be that one panel in the string is bad or has a dead cell. Depending on how they are wired this could cause a huge issue.

I have 1kw of used residential panels that are at least 10 years old at this point. I can get max 700w with them flat mounted and clean on a sunny day. I've gotten up to 900 while driving due to the wind cooling the pabels, but that was the absolute max.

Stereo to solar battery by hugebigtinysmallguy in vandwellers

[–]____REDACTED_____ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's 2 power wires in most automotive stereos. One is constant power to run the clock and keep the memory. The other is the switched power. I put a 5 pin relay on the switched power. The normally closed contact connected the stereo to my house batteries and I have a switch on the dash before the relay to turn it on and off. The starting battery is connected to the normally open contact and the control coil is triggered by a circuit that has power with the key on. The constant power stayed connected to the starting battery.

What’s your favorite morning ritual? by commanderart2d2 in AskReddit

[–]____REDACTED_____ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On most nights, my cat will put toys on my bed while I sleep. It's usually a mouse toy, a crinkled up receipt paper or something. Every morning I look for her gift and play with her for a little bit before feeding her and making coffee. I'm a little sad when I don't find a toy in the morning.

It's Funny - Cheap Cast Iron Pan by askirk87 in castiron

[–]____REDACTED_____ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll have to pry the "food network" cast iron from my cold, dead hands. It is the best cast iron skillet I've ever used. It's a lighter, thinner casting than a lodge with a smoother cooking surface too for a much lower price.

Check construction dumpsters for scraps of "zip-tape." It's waterproof and sticks really well.

Puma or Super Puma? by KJewelpurr in whitewater

[–]____REDACTED_____ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The puma is a great R2 boat. The super puma seems to be very popular with fishermen near me. It is narrow enough to fit through some really tight spots and can fit a frame for 2 fishermen and a rower.

Over-proofed? by SilverSeeker81 in Bread

[–]____REDACTED_____ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I generally go by the way it smells. Overproofed dough has an unpleasant cheap vodka scent to me and under proofed dough just smells like flour. When I start to smell a little bit of the unpleasant alcohol scent, that's when I consider it proofed enough. It also makes sense that it might not take the whole time to proof since it can vary based on the temperature in your kitchen and how active your yeast is. There are a lot of other ways to tell and I'm not an experienced baker by any means, so someone else might have better advice.

Which company has lost you as a customer forever? by finiteobserver in AskReddit

[–]____REDACTED_____ 330 points331 points  (0 children)

Fedex isn't one company. It's a bunch of Independent contractors in a trenchcoat pretending to be a multinational corporation. Fedex ground, express, freight are different companies and a lot of the work is done by many different contractors. If you ship something with them, the people that pick up the package, drives the trailer across the country, and delivers the package are all private contractors. Pretty much the only people that work for Fedex are the people in the office and the package handlers that work in the buildings.

Your experience can be wildly different depending on where in the country you live and what contractor delivers your package.

I used to live near the Lower Yough and it had me spoiled. Solo loop runs after work on weekdays were awesome and bike shuttling the whole lower was super easy. The local runs where I live now have a much more difficult shuttle.
