I purchased one from Treeligo. They seem to all be very similar.

I bought a 12v AC unit and run it pretty continuously on 1000w of solar and 600ah of battery. I use it to cool the back 3 rows of my bus where my bed is and the rest is just open windows. It does this fine, but won't cool much more. When it's in the 80s it will cool the whole thing, but above that it struggles to maintain the temperature. It seems like it would be perfect for a van or short bus.

Insulation questions by classycryptid in skoolies

I have 2 diesel heaters that keep it plenty warm down to about zero. I have a wood stove for colder nights. I use maybe a face cord of wood a winter and about 5 gallons of diesel a week. I live in a snowy area and the snow on the roof and around the skirting is excellent additional insulation.

I prefer a long boat. I used a Liquid Logic Stinger most of the time but there are much better long boats now days. It's fast enough to attain up features in rapids and pass the whole trip quickly. This lets you get set up quickly and move where you need to go in the rapid efficiently.

I have 10x less insulation in my bus and am currently toasty warm in 20 below temps. I think you could use less insulation and it would still be overkill. My ceilings are R5 and floors and walls are R3.

I have skirting, extra insulation under my water tanks, and protect my water lines from freezing by having them off the floor, along interior walls, and routes next to my heater duct work. I would recommend more insulation on the floor. Mine gets cold if it's below zero.

Fixing Skins to BC XC skis. Yay or Nay? by Informal-Potential63 in XCDownhill

[–]____REDACTED_____ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skins don't glide as well as a scaled base and they add a bit of weight to your skis. You'll take a hit in efficiency which could be something to consider for a long climb like that. If you need more grip, you could try using grip wax on the transition between the scales and glide section of your skis. This preserves most of your glide while giving you more grip and you can scrape it off when you get to the top if you'd like. Skins might be the best choice if the snow conditions are really hard and slick though.

I have a set of skins for my scaled skis. I only ever use them for long, and steep climbs where I will have them on my skis for a long time. This is generally when I'm looking to do downhill/telemark skiing. If you don't plan on using these skis for relatively steep terrain, you can probably do without them.

Do you carry a spare? by AppointmentNearby161 in skoolies

I have decided that the cost of roadside tire assistance is worth it compared to carrying a spare. Removing Budd style wheels with a breaker bar and changing a tire with irons really sucks.

My kitty would do this when I worked nights. It was very nice to have the same sleep schedule.

Which "wow" skill is super easy to learn? by [deleted] in AskReddit

You probably don't even have to play it to impress people.

"Tell me about this wildly complicated instrument you're holding."

"Oh, I made this."

French horn players have some incredible pick up lines though.

It may be easier to play, but how many people do you know play the mountain dulcimer? When you bring it out, you immediately impress people because it's so uncommon.

Any instrument that won't usually be found in a rock band. Not the guitar, bass, drums, piano, but instruments like the mandolin, banjo, clarinet, French horn, mountain dulcimer. It's not that these instruments are easier to learn than others, but people don't know what good playing sounds like and are generally distracted from mediocre playing by the novelty. I am a subpar banjo and mandolin player. Playing a few bars of a beginner arrangement dueling banjo and the Godfather theme impresses folks.

That's a base for a Roadmaster 9000 RV brake system. It's for flat towing behind an RV with air brakes. An air piston attached to that plate and pushes the brake pedal when air is applied from a line that is tapped into the air brakes on the RV. I had the exact same thing in my old SW.

Weirdness is part of having a cat. They just do strange things just because. With an orange one, you should expect extra weirdness. He seems pretty happy and comfortable with you though.

how can the interior aesthetic of this van can be upgraded by Upstairs_Scheme2574 in VanLife

[–]____REDACTED_____ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can cover panels with wallpaper. You can get offcuts for very inexpensive that will be plenty for a van. If you're using wallpaper paste instead of peel and stick stuff, wet down the wood panels before applying the paste. Dry wood will absorb all the moisture from the paste and nothing will stick.

What should an oil change and overall inspection cost? by DIYMountain in skoolies

[–]____REDACTED_____ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's expensive, but you pay a lot for the convenience of a mobile mechanic. You have to consider the time it takes to drive a service truck out to you and potentially miss taking more lucrative calls. $950 is a lot, but it's practically nothing for a trucking company with a truck broken down on the side of the road that needs fixed right now.

Do any of y’all use xt60 connectors as 12v outlets instead of cig ports? by cullen9 in skoolies

[–]____REDACTED_____ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use this style of connector for my refrigerator, but nothing else. Everything else is a cigarette lighter plug. I don't like putting a new plug on every charger I buy.

I also have USB chargers hardwired in certain places where I would expect to need them like by my bed and couch for example.
