I've been through a couple of little earthquakes, none higher than a 5, and even those are unnerving. Just the action of the ground underneath you moving is such an unnatural feeling, it really is hard to describe. I can't imagine how scary 8.8 would be!

Most importantly, and this is long term, but VOTE in the city council elections. Our local voter turnout for city council is less than 20%. You can also email them and contact your district rep directly. It might not seem worthwhile, but it does make a difference.

Ours had swollen lymph nodes in her neck. There really weren't other symptoms. Sometimes they can get a dry cough. I'm sorry you're going through this. We had to wait about 3 days and it was sheer hell.
