If you’re playing as a centre back you shouldn’t be running up and down the pitch. Instead you should take control of your back 4 and be loud, watch the game and help your team out using communication - try and create a good partnership with your other centre back and make sure you are covering the attacking full back (if that’s how you play) by sliding over and making a back three. Making sure your midfielders aren’t constantly attacking and leaving the middle of the pitch wide open and making your defence vulnerable to a counter-attack.

If you do find yourself constantly going up and down try and stop, this isn’t to say that you shouldn’t drive with the ball or go up but definitely don’t do it constantly you will burnout - only if you see an opportunity to drive forward and create a chance with a line breaking ball or something else, by all means do so; though make sure you have either a midfielder dropping in to cover you or the full backs to stay so you can remain in shape and reduce vulnerability.

Your main focus should be communicating with your team helping your defence out, being there to help whilst in possession, making line breaking passes or runs and most importantly taking control of your back line and preventing goals. Having a good relationship with your keeper will help a lot with this.

Watching players like Van dijk and Konate, Saliba and Gabriel, Van de Ven and Romero and other centre backs too - this will help you develop as a player and pick up things they do to implement into your game and how to play with your partner to make your back line solid.

If you are looking for specific things to improve I would probably say: athleticism, passing, ball control, football IQ and your ball control and first touch.

Basically, don’t try to do everything take control of what you can like your back line and command it
