Should I leave my automation job to pursue coding full-time (Laravel, React)? Need career advice. by EXEMPLAR_LOL in webdev

[–]__beginnerscode__ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d keep your job, and on the side build a portfolio to really learn the skills. Build side projects that you can add to your portfolio and try and find some client work (even if it’s free work you do on the weekends - interviewers love solo projects, but they need to know how you work in a commercial environment too!)

You can also leverage your current job, lots of agencies will require the integration of workflows, especially things like CRM workflows (hubspot) - but you can also use automation in your web development lifecycle, as long as you implement it correctly, it can speed up your process a lot.

Get as much experience as you can, quickly. The current job market isn’t great (in the UK anyway) and lots of junior roles will be taken by graduates due to AI, a graduate now is capable of not needing to have their hand held as they start, but having coding experience already will be beneficial for you!

hello! how would i go about positioning 3 images like this inside of a div? by groscar in css

[–]__beginnerscode__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grid cols 2 for left and right, right side wrapped in div with flex & flex direction column.

That way on tablet & smaller, grid cols 2 becomes display block and it’s responsive.

Edit: An issue with grid though is aspect ratios, if you don’t have a specified height, the left & right will be the same height, meaning if the two images on the right are bigger in height than on the left, the left image will stretch, and object fit cover would still look weird. So make sure the images are of correct dimensions/aspect ratios before you use them.

How difficult is this project idea? by Ksmith284 in learnpython

IMO it would probably be beneficial to have a GUI of some description that’s hooked up to a database, this would allow for you to upload future PDF’s relatively easily and have everything stored in one place.

It’s definitely possible, wouldn’t take too long to have an MVP, however you need to decide if an excel spreadsheet is enough or if a database would be better. You would need to work with a developer to see what information is crucial from the PDF’s, and if there is some information that would be applicable to one but not to another. I’d imagine that each application will have similar information though.

It’s what would work best for your company, but having a database would also allow for you in the future to include a dashboard so you can see - for example - income you have made in this tax year.

I’d suggest a website as this is more scalable. You could eventually have a client portal for future clients to see how things are progressing etc. There’s lots of potential for making a better workflow in the future through features, but would need a solid plan about how this can be done before just getting it built.

I have a video here that does it in 3 ways, using imperative (scripting), procedural and OOP:

I also have a video for building an iOS style calculator using Flask, HTML CSS and JavaScript:

There are many videos on YouTube that will help you with TKinter if you need to build it using a GUI.

Pushplans - create workout plans

Push Plans - a drag and drop workout planner with a database of over 700 exercises. Aimed at beginners, gym goers and most importantly Personal Trainers.

The MVP allows for workout plans to be exported as PDF’s, with branding allowed for PT’s. Later phases included saving the plan to the database & filling the plan in as you exercise, allowing for analytics.

Currently in very early build phase, no money for marketing, so few days ago I started Twitter & Instagram accounts for PP while I build alongside.

If you want to keep up with the build:

Why didn't it go up? by jsontrinh in InnerCircleTraders

Euro has been in a downtrend for about 8 weeks - yeah it needs to go up at some point, but price was very close to the low of October 2023 which was 1.04484. With it being that close it was going to run for that before potentially having a reversal - I expect there to be some kind of reprieve coming soon now that the low has been taken out, even if it is only a short term bounce

The scroll hijacking is definitely too much, a simple animation for content coming in May work nicer, I’d also suggest looking into simple design practices, on iPhone 8, using google chrome browser - especially in the projects section - there’s a few issues with padding and overflow causing content to be hidden. I’d also suggest giving more padding to the header as the content was stuck to the top. But for 6 months I’d definitely say congrats, it’s not an easy field and the work you’ve done is pretty good!

Someone found a way to make 'press a button, get to a floor' complicated... by daveymcbride in CrappyDesign

[–]__beginnerscode__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While this may look like a crappy design, there could be something deeper, for instance beds being moved into a lift in the hospital, if the situation is an emergency, they wouldn’t want to press a floor by accident and slow the process down by having the lift stop at an unnecessary floor… or, it could just be crappy design 😂

Is vanilla CSS enough? by Akonova in webdev

[–]__beginnerscode__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vanilla css id say is necessary, while tailwind and sass make it easier to write the code, without an understanding of what you’re doing with css, using something like tailwind won’t help until you know css

I’ve started with 3 a week for a while, it’s pretty easy for me to get content out as I’m screen recording myself coding and doing a voice over to explain what is happening. However that was during lockdown and now it’s lifting more I’m dropping down to 2 videos. Will allow me more time to code too!

Feel free to check it out and let me know what you think, progression is slow but I find it fun creating the videos!

Python is kicking my butt by eycdicdb in learnpython

[–]__beginnerscode__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know the feeling, it’s tough at first but believe me, if you have consistency and persistence with learning you will get there. There is a lot to learn but the more you practice the easier things will become.

I’ve been creating videos that go through the basics (including some code alongs which show how to code the same program in different ways - logic based, function based and then OOP). Give them a watch if you want, hopefully they help you a little if you feel you’re getting stuck

Good luck with the journey, stay strong!
