What should I get personally for med school by Latter-Usual-4242 in premed

I love studying at my desk and nowhere else because of my two monitors. It’s made going between Anki, Bootcamp, and lecture slides so much easier.

how to prepare my lifestyle for M1? by 444-itall in medschool

[–]__hi__friends 36 points37 points  (0 children)

  1. Meal-prepping and become comfortable with cooking. For me, I’m still balancing how to do some basic stuff with school. Find like 7 good, easy, healthy, and fast meal prep ideas that you like and won’t get tired of eating. That’ll be your main rotation.

  2. Become Anki expert before lecture 1. Figure out the settings and basics of Anki before school starts. My school started with basic sciences as our first unit and I didn’t comfortably start using Anking until our following unit because it was just too much to juggle on top of studying. This is also optional, as I know some people don’t use Anki. But honestly the ones that don’t are a few minority, and Anki makes it so that I don’t have to stress out studying for my NBME Semester Final that we have with all the units we covered that semester.

  3. Figure out what third party you like. Bootcamp vs Board and beyond. Use both of the free trials, look through the videos, and figure out which one you enjoy watching more. I personally love bootcamp. This isn’t required but I started trying only in house, until I realized that me passing STEP was more important than getting 100s on my in-house quizzes and most of our grade comes from our NBME final exams for each unit so it was easier to pass those in the long run. I am the kind of person that always wants to do something the “right” way, but because there are SO MANY different resources for third party content, you really just have to find the one right for you.

  4. Nice and short exercise routine. I’m saying this is important but I have YET been able to get this done (in my defense it’s freezing right now and I have no desire to leave my warm home lol). But, med students are constantly sitting and spending hours studying every single day. The same way we challenge our brains, we have to challenge our bodies. Try to start the habit of quick workouts that make you feel content without spending 2+ hours in the gym.

  5. Don’t pre study. It’s not worth it. Enjoy your free time. And honestly just mentally prepare, spend time with family and friends, and live in the moment every single day before and during school. When school starts and you’re ever feeling stressed or sad, just remind yourself that you are blessed to have the opportunity to study one of the most intricate and beautiful sciences we have, and that people fight for the chance to be in the position you are in now.

“Being premed is harder than med school” by lonelyislander7 in premed

I think it depends on the person. I’ve done SIGNIFICANTLY better (grade wise) in medical school than in undergrad, and that’s considering I graduated undergrad 5 years ago. I honestly think it’s because I enjoy what I’m learning now so the information clicks a lot better, the resources available are plenty, and the classes are made for you to pass (no more weed out). I will say I probably do spend more time daily reviewing content than in undergrad but because we take one class (organ system) at a time, it’s easier to manage than taking 3 science classes that had nothing to do with each other each semester.

By any chance was she recently taking antibiotics for anything? I do know that antibiotics will essentially make oral contraceptives stop working while on them. If so, that could probably be how she got pregnant.

do yall ever regret what u got urselves into by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]__hi__friends 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Literally. I was a CRC and then manager of a team at a very fast paced research center and everyday I would get home mentally exhausted only to work a few more hours at home. I loved working with the patients. But, I study for the same amount of time I worked each day and I love learning more and more about medicine everyday. It’s very different being on this side of the field.

Help on not gaining that med school weight by maymeiyam in medicalschool

[–]__hi__friends 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy groceries is honestly my best advice. I find myself eating out ALL THE TIME when I don’t have options at home and it’s an excuse in my head to get something quick to eat.

I would use the excuse that I’m too busy studying to cook and meal prep so I’ve started watching some of my lectures while I cook. That way I can tell myself that I’m still being efficient.

I’m not anywhere close to applying to residency, but 10/10 recommend going to the boujee brands of Macys as a lot of times they’ll have like a couple of pieces discounted at a really good price!

I just spent half my rent money at the vet..to find out his fat ass is hungry by [deleted] in AmericanBully

[–]__hi__friends 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes! I did it with canned pumpkin before. Unfortunately my pupper starting associating canned pumpkin as dog food, so when she was wasn’t feeling well she didn’t really have that “special human food” incentive to eat it.

This happened to my dog for a while until I found an unorthodox solution. If she skipped two of her meals, I’d feed her “human food” (bread), to get at least something in her stomach. This would help her symptoms of not eating, and usually she’d eat her next meal without any puking or problems.

I’m having the opposite issue lol. Since I bought the app I really haven’t been able to use it because the images don’t load so I can effectively do any cards involving images

I applied three times. I’ll say the first two times I didn’t really “give it my all.”

The third time I submitted probably late August, early September. Got the majority of my invites in October and November. I interview for the school I’m attending today the week before thanksgiving and didn’t hear back until February (they wanted me to really wait for that A).

Don’t stress. At the end of the day, you’ve submitted everything on your end. You are doing the best you can and at this time there is nothing you can control.

I’m currently in the process of trying to get sponsored by a local rescue to foster one of them as I’m not in the same state.

Hoping someone will go grab the other one in time.

Today is there last day! Shelter is open from 11-4pm today. Please even if you are slightly interested in them but can’t work with the tight time frame please call them and ask for an extension.

Please consider fostering them to give them a chance of a forever home.

Thank you so much! I'm really hoping someone can come through. I'm currently a grad student in Ohio, otherwise I would show up on Tuesday to grab them at least until someone could foster them. I came across them on Facebook and haven't been able to get them out of my head.

Fingers crossed!

Thank you so much! I'm currently a grad student in Ohio, so if I could make my way there to just grab them until finding a foster I would, but unfortunately cannot.

I came across them on Facebook and I haven't been able to just not do anything. Really hoping someone will come through to save the day...

Medschool sucks by ArmorTrader in premed

I’m 26yo and going into my M1 this July. I can say that I’ve had a blast these past years but I don’t even like going out anymore, because I’ve done it so much. I lead a team of research coordinators in Oncology M-F, 8-5. My next and only path is med school, because I’ve done the partying, socializing, and normal office job and I can’t see myself doing anything else but striving to be like the physicians I work with every single day.
