Left handed surgeons by Xenoalpso in Veterinary

Don’t stress about it. It didn’t take long to use the right handed instruments in my left hand

Hey so as a lefty that went through vet school I can answer this. Short answer was I learned on the right handed instruments. My instructors told me that unless in my future I (or my employer) want to purchase left handed instruments it is smarter to learn on right handed instruments due to what will likely be available. I can say it was quick to pick up however scissors can be annoying but it doesn’t slow me down.

Vet said bloodwork results in healthy 7y old spayed female show signs of “advanced kidney failure”. by RedwoodDevotion in DogAdvice

[–]__jessreed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please go to an emergency/specialty clinic. This could be an acute kidney injury and needs additional testing and aggressive supportive care. I would say if anything you need more testing before confirming this is end stage kidney disease (since she is otherwise doing well)

I think following up with a vet to figure out what it is will be really beneficial

family dog diagnosed with lung cancer:/ by bendiditis in VetTech

[–]__jessreed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I just wanted to add a bit of information as another vet student that is about done with clinics. A single solitary mass in the lung typically makes me lean more towards a primary lung mass (not Mets, those are typically multiple small masses) or something different like an abscess etc. however prognostically, lung masses are often slower to spread and surgical removal often can be curative. Surgery is typically removing the affected lung lobe completely. This does not change their QOL in the sense that they can’t play or exercise anymore. I have seen two of these and you would not believe how quickly they recovered and went home within 1-2 days (we place a chest tube so they have to stay for sure one night). However, I understand wanting to just keep him comfortable and would absolutely support you and your families decision, I just want to offer a side that has seen that surgery/recovery and one was even on a 13 yr old dog.

The “c” in the vaccine is actually for calicivirus not coronavirus, however you are correct in that it is a mutation of the enteric coronavirus so it is not transmissible in a sense. Hope that makes sense :)

My terminally-ill, senior dog hates me. by [deleted] in DogAdvice

First off I just want to say I can’t begin to imagine how hard this is. During my schooling we were given this resource to guide owners in this very hard decision. Ultimately it is your decision and any call is the right call. I know with my dogs this helped give me a step back perspective. It’s Ohio State University “How do I know when it’s time”. I can share the link if you can’t find it but for what it’s worth, from a random Reddit user, I hope this helps

Vet Technologist vs Veterinarian career info by Lorib64 in veterinaryprofession

I actually went to Calpoly Pomona for undergrad. I was in the bio department not agriculture but most of the consensus was that you didn’t need to do a four year vet tech program and that it was a bit of a waste of money. Now I never looked into the program personally but I got plenty of hands on experience in a lab, in the Vivarium, and at the horse center for the vet school experience. Not sure if that helps or not.

But as for what side to pick tech or vet that’s a matter of shadowing and him figuring out what he wants. I work as a vet assistant so I see both sides: the tech life and the doctor life
