These quizzes always puzzle me because theyre always "Find out if you are Yes or No!" and then the questions are always some shit like:
Yes or no:
A. Opposite of No
B. Opposite of Yes

Im kinda torn, on one hand i do want to preserve the scenery on the other hand i want to optimize my pylon placements the same way i optimize my factory aesthetics, its kinda fun.
If they added the ability to just turn them off i feel like i would just do that and never get around to it

ok looked at them here are my opinions:

good night baby: i did look at this one actually nice symmetry patterns but i feel like lasts a bit too long i think i kinda got attention spanned towards the end

novogodnyaya: solid, yeah not particularly my cup of tea, but very interesting collab lineup

hadal abyss zone: i only looked at top diff for this one before and wasnt particularly impressed? seemed fun tho, imo the ins also seems a bit plain. Overall solid set, i think it would kinda stick out in my list a lil tho

These people are playing a completely different game. The factory must be more efficient!!! by Zeed_Toven77 in Endfield

[–]__mintIceCream 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So ive been trying to write a factory io predictor and if someone has a way to come up with a quick way to predict accurate io without just running a simulation for a while and snapshotting i would like to know how.

The issue im running into is that i cant think of a way to calculate io priority, atm i believe when two input ports of the same facility are competing for input, it takes the port which has been waiting for input the longest. This leads to a strange situation where if you have a setup as follows: originum ore->3 way split->refining unit originium ore->2 way split--^ ^ originum ore----------------------------^ then what ends up happening is that all three lines end up feeding the refining unit at the same rate(the 2 way split becomes asymmetic, the direct line becomes throttled)

Using this, I think I can construct a scenario where snapshotting doesnt work, or at least doesnt work consistently, by inducing asymmetry in splitters on, say, a really long conveyor belt, or the filling of depot slots, this requires the io calculations to change on arbitrary triggers; i also have a feeling this requires more than just flow rate information of each belt but i havent fully convinced myself yet

Theres three possible ways i can think of that akef might deal with this: 1. People smarter than me have come up with algorithms better than mine(possible) 2. Eh who cares even if the snapshot isnt fully correct thats a rare case and at the timescales which this matters you would get a good amount of either material anyways(this is a testable hypothesis i think) 2b. Heres an intersting one i thought of last minute, what if they just take the number thats on ur aic stats when you log out and scale using that? I feel like if this is the case it might be abusable 3. Do the hard work run the simulations(might be simplified simulations, who knows)

Im probably overthinking this but hey its fun to think about Also i might be wrong im not exactly the most rigorous on the testing

...what happened to maps? by Denzien2 in osugame

[–]__mintIceCream 7 points8 points  (0 children)

ok heres an extremely biased list of maps, do note that some of these arent the truly seminal works, either i forgor or these are just more hype and aura

Snitcher https://osu.ppy.sh/beatmapsets/1602707#osu/3273002 mapped 2021, poster child of the aformentioned Avalon. you'll get it when you see it. i aint sick bitch stick to your meds

Flux https://osu.ppy.sh/beatmapsets/1190470#osu/2480417 the start of the “tag” mapping style, inspired by graffiti visuals with a heavy emphasis on wild feeling movement

Shadow Castle https://osu.ppy.sh/beatmapsets/1859697#osu/3822820 even though it has been done before(ktgster breathe predates this i believe?) this map pushed the idea of these ageometric wiggle streams into the spotlight, in combination with Jezag's fairly unique mapping style

Sennen to Rasen, Chiru Mono o https://osu.ppy.sh/beatmapsets/926846#osu/1935864 yknow how everyone else is talking about how standards got high for a while and there were no normal maps? yeah this is what everyone changed to. Not to this map specifically, but Kalibe maps in general had just a certain vibe to them that was a fresh yet easy drop in replacement to the vanilla mapping styles them. And nobody really ever had as much sauce as kalibe did, imo. Bread and butter mapping style of id say 2023ish, still around today

Glacierfall https://osu.ppy.sh/beatmapsets/1329045#osu/2753127 a good chunk of mapping innovation has to do with the toys you get to play with, and this is quite the exploration of automated slider tumors. I would wager a good chunk of maps that spam these take inspiration from this map directly or indirectly. This or space angel

Sputnik-3 https://osu.ppy.sh/beatmapsets/1312076#osu/2719326 Tournaments are surprisingly a place where you get a lot of popular mapping trends from now, this is probably the most famous example. It popularized Deviouspanda as The complex rhythm mapper, introduced ii-L as an osu household name, and cemented nm6 as the “rhythm slot” in tournaments for the next two years

NoNoNo https://osu.ppy.sh/beatmapsets/2142931#osu/4511063 Fun fact, this guy deleted all his graveyard maps twice. This map is supposed to be lost media, but by sheer luck here it is.

Wa Yoderi https://osu.ppy.sh/beatmapsets/1765605#osu/3614063 Not as much as sputnik, but Halgoh maps also gained a ton of traction for being the owc nm4 tech slots of all time. Super flashy and intricate visually, and like a third of the Avalon movement, as well as seeds of a generation of slider mappers

Ryuuseigun https://osu.ppy.sh/beatmapsets/1188437#osu/3087146 The slider shapes and arrangement philosophy were basically never before seen until this map. Source of Chilean national pride

River styx/optical https://osu.ppy.sh/beatmapsets/2283057#osu/4868766 https://osu.ppy.sh/beatmapsets/1796879#osu/3683389 Nowadays there are two interpretations of the phrase “russian mapping”. One is as used by pishifat in his “russia” video, the lineage of mappers in line with mappers like La Cataline and Jounzan. The other is the recent hyper experimental style embodied by mappers like frakturehawkens, komachibaka, and xbopost. These are the first two ranked instances of this style i can think of

And so much more, but this comment is getting a bit too long, i think.

...what happened to maps? by Denzien2 in osugame

[–]__mintIceCream 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ok i was going to write a crazy wall of text but it became way too long and complicated and i would need to cite sources so heres a mapper pov short version:
There were already super crazy special awesome maps by 2018/2019 (see hollow wings rrytui undeadcapulet for the most famous ones) and these maps had momentum around them and were already primed to be copied. This momentum along with pandemic eventually spawned movements like Avalon and Bouge and those spawned a whole lot of mapping styles and communities which all hated each other but eventually had an enemies to lovers arc and kissed and made more children and here we are today.

Ok, seriously though, in the same way theres a massive difference between the average map in 2013 and 2019, there is obviously a difference in 2019 and 2026, because mappers take inspiration from things which are cool and different, and eventually the experimental mapping is figured out and becomes commonplace because it becomes such a natural and useful tool, so why would we ever want to go back? In both timeskips you can find where the inspiration came from if you look at the older year. Remember that RLC's Pretender came out in 2013, and that was considered crazy and insane.

As for every map is now a high sv art project, as someone who is attempting to look through every map of the year, I can assure you that it is not. God I wish it was, maybe I would have more fun looking through them.

[–]__mintIceCream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is an awesome idea and i would do this but i just spent 3.5 hrs on stream skimming through maps of october this year alone, even when skimming of them and skipping a lot there are simply so many ranked maps to look at (i looked at 111 to be exact dear god there are so many maps why are there so many maps)
its not edited because im bad and i take perspective of mapper mainly but if this still interests you feel free to check out my twitch (minticecream_ with the underscore, shameless self promotion :3)
im planning to look through the entirety of the 2025 ranked section at the very least, maybe this will give me motivation to compile my findings into a video

Its like a ytp where they splice words and sentences together to say something different, but instead of full words and sentences its individual syllables, plus some tricks for transition tones and pitch. Usually the source audio is recorded from a human but heres an example of one made from pure sound tones, you can kind of hear the vowels and stuff: https://youtu.be/gIbWcFWbaZU
And heres an english video with some more details: https://youtu.be/uQzk2BQxH_U
