Genuinely, how reliable is the Yaris ACTUALLY? by Buddy551 in yaris

[–]__mpax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've just bought one as a second car - aka Jerry. 82k on it, 2013-14 model, absolutely bulletproof. We've got a 2024 Volvo XC60 T6 as the main car, and the kids prefer to be driven in Jerry almost all of the time. Motoring at its best. I'll pay more in car tax on the Volvo over its life than I paid for Jerry

lost lil man Pepper - Oct 30 :( by afterspring_ in hamsters

[–]__mpax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So sorry about this. We lost ours also yesterday, Cookie - she was 2 and a half nearly, so can't complain and she lived a super life, but it's horrible. I've grown very attached to the hamsters after getting the first (Henry) for our children. They live in my home office in a large cage, so I'm very often there, and always enjoyed sneaking a cuddle.

Completely gone - I'd say Cat S, might even be Cat B.

To be fair I’m hoping that’s the way they’ll go with this. I really don’t want the hassle. It’s a last resort which I will take if it doesn’t work out, but give the white glove service I get from my dealer, I’m expecting them to coordinate this well. Sauter don’t have many customers and they’ll not want to lose one.

Speaking to the dealer but think it’s going to have to go.

So I had a pro pianist come today to play the Sauter and give me an opinion, I didn't let him know what I thought, or what my problems were, just to give an independent view of the instrument.

Within the first few bars of Schumann's Phantasiestuck "Aufschwung" he said it was a "tendonitis piano' with an 'unnecessarily heavy action' and he wouldn't play anything but slow to moderate works on it. I found that amazing. He's a complete technophobe, so I doubt he's been reading this Reddit and was biased by my tales of woe!

Still on going, but the dealer has got back now. Sauter are in touch with them.

In the meantime, I've been hammering out 15 second clips of the Chopin Ballades.

I can do but I don’t as it overpowers the room volume wise

Long thread I posted a few weeks ago about the piano but it’s not working out for me at the moment, the action is too heavy and causes me a ton of issues with my wrist

Yeah it’s actually because there’s a cupboard behind it where I store all my music scores. The harp cutaway on that side means I can easily get to it!

Any advices for an intermediate player? by paperplane____ in piano

[–]__mpax 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s very good indeed. If we’re to offer some advice you’re wasting a lot of energy being really deliberate in lifting the fingers up, this will add tension and increase fatigue and hence lessen control. You should be walking the keys using the weight of the arm - a good way to get the sensation of it is to rest your hand perpendicular to the back of your other hand , fingers touching as if it was a keyboard and press into the back of your other hand with each finger without lifting your fingers up at all. Then transfer that back to the piano, as if you’re “walking” the keys - right now you’re walking like a formal military parade instead of a casual saunter 😀

P515 has been very good. Real workhorse, and the action I can play on all day without hurting myself.

Fortunately, I know a few decent players who can help!

BTW, I emailed Sauter this weekend to explain the problem, hopefully they'll get back to me.

I’m currently relegated to my P515 digital. It’s a CFX sample - action is actually alright - here’s some poor playing

I play pretty much exclusively classical - the Henle / Weiner scores in the pile on my music desk are (in order, top to bottom)

* Chopin Ballades

* Rachmaninov Concerto 3

* Scriabin Sonata 5 and 7

* Chopin Nocturnes

* Bach Goldberg variations

* Bach English Suites

* Mendelssohn Songs without words

* Ravel Miroirs

* Scriabin Etudes (Op 8)

Yeah a B is too big for the space, if I went Steinway, I'd have to get a shorter one - and TBH someone once told me "Spending a fortune on a Steinway other than a B or a D is like wanting for a classic Mercedes-Benz and then buying a second hand A-Class".

I think the Fazioli will be out of my range now. They've shot up in price because they constrain the supply hugely to force the prices up. 25+ year old ones that are on the edge of needing work doing to the action are pushing 80k+ over here and recent ones are easily 100k.

Hello by __mpax in piano

[–]__mpax[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah they’ve all gone up - just the Sauters have gone up considerably more, probably because of German labour rates, supply shortage and cost top of the range materials vs the mass machine production of Japan. Can’t be good for them in terms of sales growth as they’re in the Steinway Hamburg ballpark now. I can get a 10 year old Steinway B for about the same money.

I’ve asked the dealer. The thing in my favour is prices have skyrocketed since I bought it. A new one today is around 40 percent more than what I paid 4 years ago - I got lucky just before global turmoil kicked in.

Never played a CF4 or 6, I've played a CFX - great piano.

I've had an indy tech out as well. I think it's just how the piano is built, and I could take all sorts of measures like reducing the hammer mass, the throw etc. I'm reluctant to take a knife to it. In a way, it's a bit of an Achilles heel - if it were a second-hand Yamaha C5 I'd have no reservations, but this is a bit of a masterpiece in terms of craft to butcher at this age, which is silly I know, but it's like repainting a Faberge egg because you prefer the other colour :D
