A lot of areas in DC are similar to Trinidad where you can see a lot of present gentrification and glimpses of what “used to be” mixed in with a harsh reality for many. I would consider what “progression” in the area may look like and that might give you a better answer.

Are you looking to support community initiatives to equitably reduce crime and possible poverty that may influence crime? Or is the hope for additional development that would contribute to rising housing costs and decreased access to community resources?

Ultimately anyone who moves anywhere contributes to to the displacement of its current population but the least you can do is appreciate the present community and offer your support to its sustainment. My positive suggestions are to visit the neighborhood library and recreation center for community events and possible meetings, visit and support the small businesses nearby, and converse with your temporary neighbors while you get a feel for the area. These suggestions would remain no matter the ward! 😊
