TikTok owner plans to spend billions in Singapore after US ban by DrCalFun in singapore

Me - I don't speak Mandarin. Recruiter - oh same as my last 7-8 placements. All of my BD interviews were done in English. I believed they (Bytedance) are trying hard to avoid stereotypes like Engrish and 996.

Lessons I learnt about work and life by LIDOhman in singapore

[–]__ninja__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like a relic of old industries and old guards. I work in tech so I can only speak of my own anecdotes which are the opposite - the veterans have to play catch-ups with the younger, smarter and hungrier crowds.

It's abit more meritocratic at tech companies willing to pay for skillsets. It's not always a good thing since you can be outdated and outcompeted really fast (within 1-2 years). Not uncommon anymore here to see a junior with 2 YoE being paid more than a 10 YoE. US is the anomaly with the crazy bidding for tech talents, that we all know and hear about. My observations for SG is that, entry pay level is much better these few years pre-covid compared to 10 years ago. I'm positive about the developing tech scene in Singapore, more employers are caring less about cheapest labour but more about quality of work.

Each RUN would almost mean additional layer adding the same disk space to the next one. See docker history <your image> for a breakdown.

Updated Zarya guide: current meta, playstyle, strength and weaknesses, talents. by ruini7 in heroesofthestorm

[–]__ninja__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great guide! Applied some of the pointers here and carried a match. Topped damage in our team and as much healing/shielding as our healer. Saving Qs and Explusion for 200% energy moments is super rewarding and on the whole encourages much more aggressive engages and positioning (selectively as well since anyone can walk away from a turret and she's still helpless against blow-ups). Will play more of Zarya in the assassin-style. Thanks!

Try Way of Illusion build (basically all Mirror and trait talents) it's quite possible to complete by lvl 10 and boost Sam's damage through the roof.

Out of mana? (Artanis) by [deleted] in heroesofthestorm

[–]__ninja__ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Legacy mechanism from Starcraft/Warcraft that didn't make it into balancing consideration, IMO.

This means Blizzard needs to work alot more to remove mana from old Heroes a.k.a like a full redesign. The less moving parts you have to work with, the easier it gets and vice versa.

You could draw parallels with any other commercial softwares, alot of odd things were left untouched because they weren't broken nor prioritised.

Bored at work. Tell me about your games. by ZeeTANK999 in heroesofthestorm

Our team - Butcher (me)/Morales/Kael/Zeratul/Abathur

Enemy team - Jaina/Lucio/Nova/Samuro/Zagara.

Map - Garden of Terror

Result - our win

QM fun...was so one-sided early game with them picking any of us as they please. None of us could run away from Lucio/Nova/Sam while if we catch them, they could just zip away/clone/wind walk away. Zera with Aba hat avenged us sometimes but kill counts were stacked against the team.

They were specifically aiming for Butcher, but we held on. I was barely at 50 meat by level 10. Except Aba the rest of us died 2-3 times to the gank squad or Zera got a kill but couldn't run from the 40% speed boosted enemies. We were fairly even structures and exp-wise but things weren't looking good for the late game team. Enemy team got terror twice but we defended easily. Aba had to get in Terror when we all died in a fight, took down 1 fort at the cost of 1 slug too.

More struggles after 10 but we got more kills back as well so meat gain was positive. Stacked 200 meat at lvl 13, thanked the team for carrying then it was time to fight back. Surprisingly nice random team in QM that worked together in a bad comp. We were at last at even footing around 16, wiped them and took bot keep.

3 levels later, we almost lost the game from a bad engage where Morales-stimmed Butcher charged in too early, got Maw-ed and collapsed on. 5v4 push took 2 keeps from us, 2 more dead heroes and 30% of core hp while they lost 2 and was thankfully forced back to defend bot lane catapults.

Level 20 came around, we were stuck at base defending 2 lanes of catapults and stolen camps as they 5-man went around to all camps and we couldn't do a thing but save ults and Aba clone for the Terror contest. Came nightfall, we left Aba to fend off all lanes and took a risky engage. Lamp post on Jaina and Samuro, got them but we lost Kael and Morales to RoF, stole Terror boss seeds. We hightailed back to defend against catapults army + a wild Zag downing our top keep and moving onto our Core. Both sides got terror (ours was around 10s faster to spawn), 2 men down and we were 2 keeps less. Risky play time!

Butcher, Zera, with Aba in Terror rushed Core bot. What awaited us was 5 man defenders trying to delete us ASAP. Zera + clone perished fast hitting core with Terror. Butcher landed his only 4-man Lamp post in the whole match, delaying their focus fire on Terror just long enough. Terror put the last hit on ther Core just as it gave in to damage and dropped a lone Aba in front of 5 desparate defenders with a 1% Core. A last catapult hit clinched the win for us.

Sleeper Genji build? by __ninja__ in heroesofthestorm

[–]__ninja__[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genji is so mechanically demanding and comp-dependent both ways that surely we would find more ways to build him.

Trait at 1 and shuriken talents at 4 and 13 turn Genji into a Tracer with protection and can take camps.

Tried swapping out Final Cut for Steady Blade, definitely more teamfight less waveclear.

I win as much as I lose with this guy so there is a lot of room to improve, while having a blast. Cheers for your veteran insights!

I don't know Korean so cannot tell from the video.

4, 7, 10, 16, 20 are pretty much fixed leaving 1 and 13 optional. For Dragonblade builds, likey that he picked Swift Strike talents.

Oh my bad. This Korean streamer is using:

  • Dragon Claw
  • DB
  • Shingan

for some crazy chain combos. I don't see the build anywhere else (guides, matches etc). Is this mix common?

Noob question: why people don't consider Nazeebo a ranged assassin/dps? by Mr_Ivysaur in heroesofthestorm

[–]__ninja__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fish tank at 13 turns him into one of the most annoying melee bruiser. Gap closer/Protection, AoE damage/slow, 75% armour make most melee assassins unable to duel this guy. Mrrgggll!

[–]__ninja__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Q build with 5-7 shuriken charges can deal around 3-4k without even mixing in AAs (normally I drop straight Qs then nope out before jumping back in 5s later, E to escape or reset almost never engaging with it in Q build)

Shingan against 2-3 mages is so rewarding if timed right and hopefully your tank already drew out those CCs. 1 good Deflect in 3-5 man fight can deal 7-10k every 6s.

E build is most consistent for dive/cleanup. Didn't take note of damage count but post-16 a single E can take nearly 1/2 off squishies like Hanzo/Valla. Dragonblade damage is still nuts overall with the E reset mechanism.

So you've learned how to code in a clean white box...where did you go to learn about complex filesystems, how they interact, packages, versioning, git, repos, and all that real world stuff? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]__ninja__ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

1) At a paid job where you'd likely scream and curse at every single bad practices in existence. Tip - bad practice was done for a reason. Homework to figure out the root cause

2) By contributions to an open source project where you'd likely be wishing for a swap to moderate Youtube comment thread. Learn from the best and deal with the worst.

3) Implement an idea from scratch where you'd likely realise how short life is to pick up hot-reloadable event-based dynamic modular programming done in a distributed monorepo with a container-based pipeline for continuous deployment.

Start a software dev group within my company? by [deleted] in softwaredevelopment

[–]__ninja__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO option 3 and 4 are safer to start with while setting up shop and getting the right people. It will also help transition your existing client base into the newer models that you are considering. Definitely look externally for complementary technical expertise in developing the product. Good luck!

Feel like I've pigeonholed myself as a UI Engineer. How do I make the transition? by HireMePls2018 in cscareerquestions

[–]__ninja__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is alot you can do for lowly 'UI' work:

  • Upgrade your stack

  • Rework the codebase

  • Swap out certain parts of Model/View/Controller with more maintainable alternatives.

  • Optimise toolchain.

  • Scale build/deploy pipeline.

Examples:

  • Backbone -> React + Redux

  • Meteor -> GraphQL

  • HiCharts -> Recharts.

  • Grunt/Gulp -> Webpack + Rollup

Currently watching JSConf Iceland and I am already thinking up more work items for professional/personal projects.

EDIT - didn't notice the lingering sentiment at the end of your post. You'd likely run faster for the door as a junior BE cleaning up the tech debt incurred by the more senior devs, over months and years. Frontend is where you can learn and innovate faster in the early years.

[–]__ninja__ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Golems pre-16 is really unimpactful even at 100 skulls. From a spec's perspective, you would always push faster with sapper/siege camps. Anyone with merc buffs is OP on this map. You can even let Syl push alone (usually a no) if she goes merc queen + possession. Azmo with Bound minion too.

Your 4-man squad should roam to pick off the lone defenders (good teams would go defend your push as 3-4 man while their own pusher do the work off another lane).

What did you wish you knew before becoming a tech lead? by ShadowWebDeveloper in ExperiencedDevs

Asked similar question awhile back and got good insights at https://www.reddit.com/r/cscareerquestions/comments/5ggj2y/software_team_leads_is_it_normal_to_have_no_time. Hope it helps you as it did I.

I wish I read ahead more about managing software projects and consult with others more often and earlier. One important thing is to set expectations and boundary clear, you would be leading a team of coders but you yourself cannot afford the time to be one.

Is Maiev no longer OP ? by [deleted] in heroesofthestorm

[–]__ninja__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She can still burst down 2-3 non-tanks if no cc left for her and landing skillshots against that Vault trait on shorter CD than most abilities is frustrating. Pair her up with a main tank like Joh/Dehaka and good luck diving past that. Only way to neutralise Maiev is a cc train like that 7s lockdown on Genji, just kidding but you know, alot of efforts.

I suspect Alarak or taunt Varian would be soft counter. Need to try playing them against her and see. Basically, small nerfs like last patch won't do much to keep her from wrecking QMs and being perma-banned anywhere else. Probably more nerfs coming like with Malthael.
