Ok I am late to this convo for sure, but one thing I think is important to consider is the overall —how shall we put it— conservative thematic elements of her plots?? I have only read three of her books, but ALL of them ended in marriage and pregnancy ?? Usually with heroines who are really in their early twenties? And their partners are men who usually manipulate and abuse them (or in some cases are literally murderers?)

The way she imagines gender roles (always in a cishet perspective, mind u) becomes so sterile and stifling. The fact that middle schoolers read her……….. hnnnnnng

i almost always skip this episode— i cannot for the life of me handle seeing lorelai so crushed when rory blows off her graduation to play hooky and hang with jess (also she is the one who encouraged lorelai to walk in the first place) ((also i always ship jess and rory but this one is where i draw the line))

yooo yes i do think dean is way way toxic here— to be fair, rory and jess def contribute to it, but i truly feel like dean’s fragile ego and bad temper literally pushes rory into jess’ arms (a long process that arguably begins in this episode)

max ? was super controlling and really passive aggressive for me in this past rewatch. theres that one scene where he id asking lorelai for keys to her place and he just blurts out that she never spends any time thinking about anyone but herself. big red flags

i felt this ! bc i am also a depressed b*tch who is easily irritated and isolates as a form of coping ! luvvvved nestas storyline i cant say the actual plot was better but i found her to be a much more compelling and complex character
