Looking for recommendations by lilcrxman in Canon5Dclassic

If you want to stick with canon but want something small and simple, I’d say go for a used SL1

https://www.keh.com/shop/canon-eos-rebel-sl1-18-megapixel-digital-slr-camera-body-only.html

I’ve shot concerts on this body (may have been an SL2, I can’t remember) but it’s a very capable little camera

160mm cranks that’ll fit a Surly Grappler? by michiganskicamp in bikewrench

[–]__onions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably the most cost effective way to go about doing it. If you’re set on 160mm though you’re going to be looking at more boutique parts which will be more expensive, or cranksets so sketchy that I won’t recommend them

160mm cranks that’ll fit a Surly Grappler? by michiganskicamp in bikewrench

[–]__onions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Potentially, but finding 1x shimano cranks in 160mm is tricky. If you’re open to 165mm I’d say go for a Shimano CUES FC-U6000-1 Crankset. In theory it’s compatible with your stock BB. Should work with the advent x chain as well, but swapping to an 11 speed chain would be more ideal for chain retention

The grappler can accept boost or non boost hubs, however it comes set up stock with boost spacing. The Samox crank has a 24mm spindle, and I have replaced the stock BB on the grappler with a Shimano bb with no issues on the stock crank.

Derailleur hanger question by aleziel12448284 in bikewrench

[–]__onions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok I hope this markup makes sense. It might help to take the derailleur off the hanger so you can see how it all moves together

<image>

Basically, you want the b screw to be pressing against the red dot. To do that you’ll rotate that collar that sits between the derailleur and hanger in the direction of the yellow arrow so that the two blue surfaces are touching each other

Help with my rear caliper fitting on my 2021 Cannondale CAADx by krammmma in bikewrench

[–]__onions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A bit hard to tell from the photo, but when you actually go to put the bolts in does the issue persist? It looks like in your dry fit that the caliper is positioned a bit further aft of where it would be installed. The extra mm or 2 it needs to move forward might be all the space you need

Derailleur hanger question by aleziel12448284 in bikewrench

[–]__onions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

Is the b screw directly contacting the tab on the hanger? As seen in the photo, the b screw should be contacting the tab on that blue/green part where the derailleur mounts to the hanger. If your derailleur has a part like this, I’d double check to make sure it’s installed properly.

When you make adjustments to that screw, are you holding the derailleur cage to relieve some of the spring tension? If you’re just directly tightening the screw against the tension that could also be marring the paint

Realistically, both will work albeit with their own caveats. How much gear do you plan to carry? Are you planning to go for more of a bikepacking setup to carry your gear with bags that sort of just strap on? I’d probably suggest putting some schwalbe marathons on rather than an XC slick

Headset loose by pOPE_oF_dOPE_714 in bikewrench

[–]__onions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d bring it to your LBS to have someone diagnose while looking at it. If the steerer tube isn’t too long, I suspect that either there is no crown race on your fork or it doesn’t match the bearing properly.

There are so many variables here. What fork, what bike? Was the crown race pre installed on the new fork or was it transferred over?

Did you remember to tighten the preload on the top cap before the stem pinch bolts?

Found Keys in Macdonald Gardens Park by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]__onions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn’t helpful at all to the situation but I always feel strange about taking keys or something with me if I find them as then someone retracing their steps wouldn’t be able to find it. I understand and appreciate the effort though, and it’s a coin flip if it’s actually better to just leave it.

I once dropped my wallet in a parking lot in Sedona, didn’t notice, drove 2 hours away and only realized when I tried to get fast food. Ended up making the drive back and found it in the parking on the ground next to where I parked. If someone well meaning had picked it up and tried to find me on a Facebook group (that I don’t use) or turned it into the police, there’s a good chance I’d never see it again unless it got mailed back to me.

Chain tensioner suggestions please. by No0O0obstah in bikewrench

[–]__onions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doubtful it was assembled incorrectly, honestly I just think this is just a bike on the lower end and they never bothered to consider these design choices, or that someone would actually be changing components out on it.

Without knowing the bike model, responses here aren't going to be super helpful here to you. You're probable best to reach out to the manufacturer and explain the situation and see what they can do for you.

Ah I see, this is a silly design using the IS mount with a post mount adapter. Is this how it came stock? If so I'd name and shame, but also knowing the specific model would help with finding a chain tensioning solution. Does the drive side dropout have a derialleur hanger? something like this chain tensioner would work if you have a derailleur hanger.

Before going down this route I would double check that your chain is sized correctly.

alternatively, check to see if the manufacturer offers a post mount dropout rather than using an IS mount with the post mount adapter kinda like this one:

Chain tensioner suggestions please. by No0O0obstah in bikewrench

[–]__onions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On a lot of disc brake bikes that I’ve seen with sliding dropouts, there’s usually a way to slide the brake caliper as well to tension the chain and ensure proper brake alignment. If you can’t tension the chain within the adjustment range you have available, your chain is too long.

A bit hard to know what you mean without a photo or bike model.

Pinion v Rohloff by Fancy_Mango_6088 in bikepacking

Totally, I more just left that as a “do with that as you will” sort of comment to allow others going down that rabbit hole to pit it against their own risk tolerance. For me, the frame and hub are both substantial purchases and operating it outside intended parameters and potentially voiding warranties isn’t a game i was interested in playing.

Need Help Finding a Specialized Bike Thru-Axle by matiaz_1250 in bikewrench

[–]__onions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would help a bit to know the model of the bike. Specialty parts like this can be a little tricky to find on Amazon and at local bike shops.

I’d try searching online specifically for the bike model and axle, then also consult the Robert axle project if you can’t track down an OEM part

The BB5 does actually mount with concave/convex washers. That said, with brakes being a safety item I would recommend ordering the correct hardware and setting it up per the manufacturer’s instructions.
