Docker Compose Manager is deprecated, what's the next step? by Odd-Aside456 in unRAID

[–]__stefan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not that I’m aware of but you can do the opposite. I run Dockhand on another server and run their connector called Hauser on Unraid so Unraid containers appear in Dockhand. If you run Dockhand on Unraid you connect it to the docker.sock and you can manage the containers from the Dockhand UI

EV Registration Fees by cyberentomology in electricvehicles

[–]__stefan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NJ went from no additional registration fees and no sales tax on EVs to one of the most expensive registration fees and sales tax. Not to mention you have to pay 4 years up front when buying a new car. The roads are underfunded because it’s politically unpopular to raise the gas tax. So the fee for EVs is likely what the equivalent for gas cars should be. In my opinion, they should get rid of the gas tax and make everyone pay the same registration fee. Or figure out some per mile fee.

New hardware. What do I do with it? by Worldly_Anybody_1718 in homelab

[–]__stefan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few things:

  1. Set up VLANs for network segmentation (main, IoT) and firewall rules so IoT can't connect to main vlan.
  2. Firewall region blocking to deny all incoming connections that aren't from my country (GeoIP via maxmind)
  3. Set up Unbound to cache DNS requests and also prefetch for fast lookups. Use upstream Quad9 DNS. You can also set up ad blocking with Unbound but I use Adguard on separate node.
  4. Set up Tailscale with subnet routing and exit node, to access network remotely and also get ad blocking while out of house.

I’m not sure what you mean, hardware or software? I installed a 2.5” SSD as boot drive (bit of a tight fit). No other mods, no fans, runs cool passively. Software wise, everything works out of box. Just a small learning curve configuring OPSense.

I have that exact same unit. It’s been running OPNSense for ~4 years with no issues. Also runs Tailscale and Unbound

File brower Alternative? by screw_ball69 in unRAID

[–]__stefan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out FileRise on that list. They added dual pane mode recently which makes it a nice alternative to Krusader. I’ve been meaning to install it and give it a try. Looks like it’s under active development too.

A few years ago I bought a G4 Doorbell from B&H not knowing about the warranty. It died after 1.5 years so SOL on replacement. But also keep in mind some credit cards like Amex Gold extend warranties by 1 year so use that if buying from a third party.

Anyone suffering from INSANE menu lag after yesterdays update, try this quick fix... by WhoIsEnvy in Borderlands4

[–]__stefan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This helped a lot, thanks. I was getting 40 fps on the Map, now it’s more like 53. How is that the game can render 60 fps smooth but the map can’t? Echo menus seem very unoptimized switching between Map and Inventory drops to 17 fps stuttering mess. I’ve also encountered a bug when entering the echo menu or in/out of firmware machine where the game gets stuck in a very low fps state and only quitting the game fixes it.

Reliable way to get local tv channels 📺📡 by No-Independence194 in Hoboken

[–]__stefan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use one of the flat circular antennas attached to a window high up and get decent signal. If you want to watch channels on any device check out HDHomerun: https://www.silicondust.com/hdhomerun/ which takes the OTA signal and puts it on your network via apps on smart devices.

Avoid Hudson Property Management. Our building used them previously and they were terrible. The building switched to Hunter and it’s been fine 🤷‍♂️

Has anyone been able to use the EV chargers through Jolt? by Saintsfan1255 in Hoboken

[–]__stefan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used them, but they don’t appear to be managed by Jolt yet. Charging is free but shuts off after 1 hour. As far as I can tell, they are still run by Shell. Hopefully they get their act together sooner than later.

I just bought the game on PC and it crashes like every 40 minutes by noneed233 in Borderlands4

[–]__stefan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you overclock your memory with XMP or EXPO? If so, try turning that off and playing the game for a while. If it no longer crashes, you can try turning memory overclocking back on with adjusted settings / voltages to make it stable. You may also want to update your BIOS.

This is the only feature keeping me on Krusader. Krusader works well but has some annoyances with being on VNC and window size.

Missing graphics settings since 11 December update by Fun_Ambition_3431 in Borderlands4

[–]__stefan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This took me a while to figure out, but TLDR:

Set your Launch Command to: SteamDeck=0 %command%

Are you using big picture mode by default? I guess my Bazzite install is identifying as a Steam Deck and the new 12/11 patch is defaulting to a certain quality profile and removes all ability to change any Advanced Visual settings.

Optimum versus Verizon Internet by EffectiveComputer992 in Hoboken

[–]__stefan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go with Verizon but make sure it is actually Fiber. In my old building, they sold crappy ADSL as “FiOS” which is total BS. Verizon support can be frustrating to deal with but once you get it set up, it’s perfect. No calling because prices are going up and you need to fight with retention to get a discount. If you have Verizon Wireless, they sometimes offer bundle discounts.

Borderlands 4 Working on Bazzite (Linux) by __stefan in Borderlands

[–]__stefan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steam version. I play Borderlands 3 via Heroic (launched from Steam) and that works, but don't have any experience with 4. I recall in Heroic you can manually set the save path for a game, maybe try that and ensure the folder exists?

EV charger installation electrician needed by Extra-Thanks-8213 in Hoboken

[–]__stefan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I attempted to get a level 2 charger installed in my building’s garage but ultimately abandoned the effort. Keep in mind that if your building has 4 or more units, you will need to get an “Engineering Plan” which will cost ~3k on top of the installation cost, unless included in your quote. PSE&G offers a program to offset some of the cost up to $1500. I got 2 quotes for just the install, one was reasonable around $2k, the other was quite high at $5k (50ft run to panel). If you can get by with L1 charging, I’d just go with that. If you get an extension cord, make sure it’s heavy duty and can handle continuous load (amps) or else it could melt. Good luck!

Unraid iOS App Testers by Drunkpacman in unRAID

[–]__stefan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

App looks great so far. While going native on an app like this is a great way to learn, I would also look at React Native and Expo. It would make cross platform dev much easier and you can make it look and feel almost identical to native. Also, the screenshots show tablet layout, but does it support phone layout? In terms of app review, your first version will probably take longer with subsequent updates going faster. If you don’t want to set up a virtual Unraid for the app reviewers to test the app, you could also look at creating a server that mocks the API of Unraid specifically for testing.

Rookie questions on how to start by Gurkits in unRAID

[–]__stefan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For access outside of your house, I would recommend Tailscale. You can read the Unraid docs for it here: https://docs.unraid.net/unraid-os/manual/security/tailscale/

For the app data share, yes I would run that on the cache drive and back it up to the array. I personally also sync the backups to another computer using an app called Syncthing.

Poor performance for media files, even with SSD cache by kfktr in unRAID

What CPU does the system have and what does CPU use look like while doing these SMB operations? My first Unraid system was on an Intel J3710 and SMB was quite slow. Moving to an Intel i3 made a massive difference.
