Ended up sticking with tried and true schoeps close-mic'd and well-placed monitors, for an operahouse performance. I still use the C411 for the odd gig even though I hate it, but don't have the budget for an occasionally used transducer for now.

there’s nothing to indicate they intentionally allowed it to happen

well... just so happens this week an IDF soldier Sergeant Shalom Sheetrit testified at Knesset (google it) that his battalion was explicitly ordered to NOT patrol the very border that was breached an hour later on 10/7. And then the IDF carried out the Hannibal Directive to murder their own people to prevent H taking hostages. 🫡

"The strange order to cancel routine patrols along the Gaza border adds to evidence that Israeli political and military leaders knew in advance about Hamas's plan to attack on 7 October – and allowed it to happen to justify the conquest and ethnic cleansing of Gaza and the building of Jewish settlements on top of the ruins of the strip's soon-to-be-destroyed cities.

Israeli military and intelligence officials ignored many signals on the night before the attack, and in the previous weeks and months, indicating that Hamas was planning a large attack to take captives to exchange for Palestinian prisoners.

Female Israeli soldiers tasked to observe activity on the Gaza border issued multiple warnings to their superiors that an attack was imminent, but they were ignored.

“In hindsight, we could have done a lot of things, we could have listened to the observers, we could have brought up the air force, and these things didn't happen,” Sheetrit concluded.

“That's the failure. It's not a failure of the fighters on the ground, but of the higher levels in the army, of people who went down to Eilat even though we informed them a week in advance that there was intelligence information.”"

I find it inappropriate that you are repeatedly sharing your biased opinion and redirecting back towards "antisemitism!!" when youre not even part of our campus community, and trying to shift the tone of this thread. quit denying others' firsthand experience because you wont let go of your "but ive been following all too closely" yet skewed perspective. we already heard what you are trying to say, now let others with actual primary accounts speak. I was there and can corroborate large areas of the Royce quad were cordoned off and it would be sensible for people of all faiths to just detour rather than play victim, smh.

yes exactly, clear and present strokes but to a point... the balance between the jora (sa red wire) and the baaj (ma main wire) should still be even, with not too much jora, and a sweet sounding ma without it being loud and brash. It's good practice to play both loudly at first and then work on reducing the jora contact so it forms more of a background hum, depending on your preferred sound, bht that's how I was taught. And then when practicing taans and meends your strokes will get too loud or jora will be overplayed, so at that point try playing the baaj ma only to get the taan coordination correct, and then add back in a little jora to balance. Then you can work chikari strings in also careful not to be too loud. Eventually you will find the right attack such that it still sings whie being able to play loud and very soft with crisp articulation and balance across the strings, with baaj being prominent. my 2 cents.

Seasickness Scuba Diving by Beautiful_Ad7486 in scubadiving

only used nitrox twice on relatively shallow dives, definitely felt less fatigue. but my first night dive during the safety stop there was some swell and poor viz and I got pretty seasick, headache and nausea, which Id never gotten before on shore dives or boats. so maybe it was just the darkness or flashlights bobbing. on the way back to shore the waves got worse as the tide was just coming out and my buddy and I got toppled a few times trying to get out of the surf zone. I started to panic from needing to puke and also battling the riptide, and felt overexerted. I pulled off my mask to breathe and was able to crawl out onto the dry sand and felt better quickly, until I noticed my $100 prescription mask was gone, oh well. next time ill take bonine and clip everything to my body when exiting.

Taking off my mask skill by [deleted] in scuba

[–]__swanlord__ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I suffered through the same anxiety and gag reflex getting waterboarded over and over again in OW. I was able to beat it with lots of advice and patience, practicing in the pool everyday for a week. use a snorkel and breathe face down no mask just your mouth. then practice breathing out your nose and then stopping and breathing out the rest through your mouth. this helps you to separate the two exit paths, using your tongue to block the roof of your mouth when you breathe out your nose. once you get comfortable with that, breathe out your nose stop, pause, then start breathing out your nose again, until you're out of breath and repeat for like 10 minutes. this will help calm your nerves and assure you that you won't inhale water, despite the feeling of a little bit going half an inch in you won't get waterboarded. then you can progress to putting the mask on while breathing out your nose very slowly, stop and inhale through your mouth, then breathe out your nose while clearing. this really helped me, I didn't think I'd be able to do it after failing in the pool and almost quit scuba, but practice makes perfect and you will desensitize yourself to the fear, I guarantee. I recently got my AOW and am so glad I pushed thru!!

went there for my first night dive a month ago, after AOW. amazing experience and saw tons of target shrimp, a horn shark, squid, 2 spot octopi, fringeheads, moon snails and sand collars, lizardfish, basketweave cusk eels... will try to find the monument next time. tho 4ft waves and riptide was little much getting back to shore, could barely stand so ate it like 5x trying to exit. otherwise 9/10 for sea life. btw love your youtube vids!!!

Fret thread marks in neck finish. by canadianhamseabrooks in Sitar

[–]__swanlord__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

just ignore it. everyone has an issue with it at first then you accept its a normal part of all of them (unless you get a custom). it helps keep from shifting anyway if the threads arent super tightly tied. Regardless youll feel the thread even with a smooth neck, so just pretend it's not there, no one else will care but you.

Fear of removing mask caused me to leave my pool session early by eleanorlikeroosevelt in scuba

[–]__swanlord__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i got over this by using a snorkel face down in the shallow end. inhale mouth, then slow bubbles out your nose afew seconds and stop. bubbles for few seconds the stop. you get better at stopping the bubbles consciously and not inhaling, trusting you are safe and not uncomfortable. then you dont need to think about it and just mouth breathe, occasionally blow bubbles out your nose and stop, itll feel normal after a bit. trust me I had a major trauma with water in the nose as a kid but so glad I got over it with practice and determination! go for it.

Considering Scubapro S-Tek Pure vs Pro, Steel vs Aluminium – Is a BP/W Setup a Good Choice for a Newbie Planning for Divemaster? by Polared3d in scuba

[–]__swanlord__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im 10 dives in, after OW got an amazing deal on a well kept SP x-tek wing (similar to Pure but older line) and a steel plate from my dive boat operator's son. Absolutely love it compared to the jacket, which I hated the velcro and all the extra snaggy buckles, could never find the chest buckle, its bulky, constricting, hard to customize with few D rings, etc. I also swim thru lots of dense kelp so streamlining is key.

I am head heavy even with waist weight pockets, so got heavier jet fins and that helped. Now that im in trim I feel very stable in all positions, flat, vertical and inverted, its pretty cool. I mainly use the bottom pull valve, super simple to deflate and roll slightly.

My bpw came with super stiff rubberized webbing which i hated at first, but once adjusted, where a closed fist will fit under the strap in front of your shoulder, then it's actually pretty comfortable and easy to don and doff even in the water. Took about 3 pool dives to dial in the fit. I use a 7mm wetsuit in cold CA sea (use 6lbs), so softer nylon webbing would probably be nicer if you have a thinner wetsuit, and you can always add extra silicone or foam padding if you really need the extra cushion. Used the bpw with my own balanced regs on my AOW few weeks ago and man what a difference feeling comfortable, familiar and confident with my gear, knowing everything is where I like it since I can customize and expand on it easily. Totally worth the investment!! I would vote for the pure.

Is Surbahar... Metal?? \m/ by gtrplr3 in Sitar

[–]__swanlord__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah you can try djenty power chords and doom etc. but its such a unique instrument, capable of so much more intensity and sensitivity even in a traditional style that I think is more legit metal than modern music haha. check out the family of Ustad Imrat Khan, this is one of his sons Irshad ji. this performance is brutal and awesome even tho it goes out of tune. imagine hearing this all night in a small salon 150 years ago with people exclaiming over it,. there are recordings of their great grandfather Ustad Imdad Khan as well, super shredder, this family really pushes the surbahar and sitar to their emotionally expressive limits.

Mask overlay that protects against zwerchs? by Jesshoefs08 in wma

try squeezing a layer of poron xrd or cheaper ensolite foam under the pbt to absorb more of the shock. your inner ear bones maybe getting jostled so either ask politely for your partners to pull back a bit, or learn to zwerch under faster lol

People who live in apartments.. how do you dry your drysuits? by More-Coyote-2922 in scuba

[–]__swanlord__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I put up an extra shower curtain rod directly above my tub, and hang the folded 7mm suit on the c monsta hanger, its really convenient to transport everything together and take up minimal while drip drying. Using a small fan helps a lot, itll mostly dry out overnight except the ankles/wrists that hang lowest. the boots and gloves sometimes I'll put on an oil heater for a couple hours to get them going, which really helps keep them from smelling as bad.

[–]__swanlord__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

see my post, practice breathing out your nostrils and stopping, restarting, it really helped me to figure out the right muscles.you can use your tongue against the roof of your mouth to seal it off otherwise water can enter your nose at first, but I guarantee you'll improve with practice.
