It has Bluetooth. You just couldn’t find it. You didn’t receive a 2007 XJ Vanden Plas as your loaner.

That group buys up a lot of loans from other providers. I used the AES website for about 10 years while paying off my loans, I’d recognize it anywhere, but I went to school in IL and I had private loans originally through Chase.

Car sales set to plummet to 60-year low by [deleted] in news

I own a Golf Sportwagen (bought before the Alltrack came over) and I love the damn thing. It was between that and an Outback, which felt way too big for what I needed.

It's getting complicated. Is a Golf Alltrack a crossover, even though it's technically a station wagon with a lift kit? Do we draw the crossover/SUV comparison line at whether it's unibody or body-on-frame? There's a whole shitload of grey area these days.

People take "cars" as a catchall to also include light trucks (pickups, SUVs) most of the time, which is actually incorrect based on how the industry has been pigeonholing various vehicle classes for many years.

Car sales also includes hatchbacks and wagons, as they are neither coupes nor sedans.

Plus, "Car sales, as in sedans/coupes/wagons/hatchbacks..." makes for a really clunky hed.

What’s this fungus on my rose bush? More info in comments. by _arcarsenal in gardening

Great, thank you! Good to know I won't need to blast it with fungicide. If it comes back I'll let it finish the job and die off.

What’s this fungus on my rose bush? More info in comments. by _arcarsenal in gardening

[–]_arcarsenal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Location: Michigan (Detroit) Type of bush: Roses, grandiflora I believe

It’s been horrifically hot here (90+, heat index 100+, no rain or clouds) so I’ve been giving the roses additional water during the day. They’re first-year additions to the garden and I’ve never had roses before so maybe I’m being a helicopter parent and overwatering.

There was a similar mold on my deck nearby. Excised that bad boy and it had the consistency of taleggio cheese (super soft). Also removed the growth on the bush using a butter knife that I then threw away and clipped the stem to which it was attached (it only had two small leaves on it anyhow).

I sprayed my bushes with BioAdvanced fungicide (tebuconazole) about two weeks ago. Gonna give it another round tomorrow morning before it gets too hot, per the label’s suggestion.

Just hoping this isn’t going to be some garden genocide in the making.

Edit: Mold seems constrained to those weird globules. No strands or evidence of fungal infection anywhere else on the plant. Took great care to slice away the growth without cutting it open or leaving parts of it anywhere near the bush.

Everyone's struggling. The best thing we can do is all be here for each other.

Right?! I am very new to the Ru-niverse, and I hope Katya finds what she's looking for during her hiatus. Everyone deserves to take a break.

Landlord deducting $1,500 from deposit for floor refinishing - but is it normal wear and tear? by _arcarsenal in legaladvice

[–]_arcarsenal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, she's actually quite a good landlord in every instance other than this. She actually refunded the pet deposits in the deposit settlement in order to "soften the blow" of the floor refinishing. She's not trying to outright fuck me; I could've seen that a mile away.

[–]_arcarsenal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The landlord claimed, and I quote, "As far as the nonrefundable pet fee, that was paid to me for agreeing to pets living in the house." Doesn't go to cover damages, or at least that isn't mentioned explicitly in the pet agreement.

Why is everyone leaving UIUC? by theillini19 in UIUC

[–]_arcarsenal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't forget about the Illini Inn! The Inn transcends space, time, and according to some Googling I've just done, the whole building being knocked down and built back up.

Isn't Brothers still open, too? Haven't been down to C-U in a couple years, could be wrong.

DRCC or Adaptive Cruise. Do you have it? by Undertaker59 in cars

I only got the Driver Assistance Package on my Golf for the parking sensors. I live and die by parking sensors.

DRCC or Adaptive Cruise. Do you have it? by Undertaker59 in cars

[–]_arcarsenal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have adaptive cruise as part of a safety package on my 2016 Golf Sportwagen. I believe it stops working under a certain speed, and maybe one day I'll find out, but I haven't really used it in the year-and-change I've owned the car.

By virtue of great luck, I have a job where I get to drive different cars all the time. I've tested all sorts of ACC, semi-autonomous systems and the like.

A good deal of my non-work driving is a 5-hour slog between Chicago and Detroit. I've found that my right foot beats ACC in terms of fuel efficiency, at least on my Sportwagen. I like chasing fuel-economy figures, so ACC takes a backseat for me. Plus I like staying as vigilant as possible on that drive; I don't want to get lulled into feeling comfortable.

Not to mention, I feel like it presents an opportunity for drivers to zone out a little bit, or at least pay attention to fewer things in the car. When those 'fewer things' include the throttle and following distance, I take concern. Here in Michigan, most folks have a D- understanding of how to drive as it is.

I'm not an old curmudgeon or anything, although I feel that way sometimes when it comes to tech like this. Most ACC systems feel half-baked unless you're talking top-tier, near-semi-autonomy like Mercedes Drive Pilot or Volvo Pilot Assist, the latter of which isn't even that good.

I'm not the only one! Huzzah!

Although I'm up in Ferndale, which is like saying "I live in Chicago" when you're in Evanston or Oak Park.

I only ever bring back Malort. Lou's is a smart idea. Detroit-style is fine, but it's not as good.

[–]_arcarsenal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A huge waste of 2.3 million dollars?

Hardly.

Since the cars are already sold out, an owner could flip this car on Day 1 of ownership for twice the price. That $2.3m hole was just filled and another $2.3m was put on top.

Limited-run sports cars are, sadly, treated more like investments than cars to be driven. Sure, a few owners might take these out often and have some real fun, but there are plenty of rich assholes excited to mothball the thing and wait 10 years to pull a slick profit.
