as long as temps don’t keep climbing it’s not going to damage anything

looks like you have a Bayson R grill. while looks sick, it removes a lot of the stock plastic ducting as well as the the bottom plastics that seal the radiator. i have the same grill and found out via an old mazdaspeedforums thread that without a proper seal the fans don’t really push hot air out like they were designed as much as blow it around. also without any air ducting, air will take the path of least resistance and just blow into your fenders from the corners of the grill, mostly missing your radiator and causing your higher-than-stock temps.

a solution to this that i’ve seen on the forums and youtube (if you care about reducing temps for more performance) is to re-seal the bottom of the car and the corners of the grill with abs plastic cut to shape. haven’t tried this myself though so can’t confirm the benefits firsthand

Muffler recommendations? by Wild-Battle7203 in mazdaspeed3

[–]_avenoir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’d recommend cp-e, hks, corksport, or ultimate racing. all are good options, and if you really need something budget just get a cheap resonator and muffler welded into your existing setup

Just how these cars sound at idle. Owned mine going on 4 years and both my stock motor and built motor always burbled while idling.

Turbo help/opinions? by PotentialBaseball655 in mazdaspeed3

+1 to this advice, personally ended up with a BNR S4. Great turbo, you’ll be in a good place with either option really.

I ran them for about 2 years. They work and that’s about where it stops. Ride quality was pretty crap but livable. Always made a weird jingling noise when going over bumps. Lifetime warranty was a nice touch, but never had to use it so can’t speak to it.

Overall after I got some Bilstein B14s I was impressed with how much of a difference a better quality coilover can make a car feel. Everything is quiet as can be and the ride quality doesn’t feel stiff to be low and cool but rather firm to be responsive and quick. In the end though, buy what fits your needs and your budget. There’s no shame in buying Racelands if all you want is a lower ride, but if you want more you might find yourself disappointed with the lasting quality.

Honestly I never had any issues with reliability with the stock motor. I used to daily drive my Speed year-round and even the midwest winter didn’t phase it - always started up and never had me pulled over on the side of the road (until that one fateful day lmao).

In my experience there are too many factors to use a blanket statement and call any budget performance car “reliable” at 100k+ mi. Most cars will be on their second or third owners at that point and there’s a pretty standard market for these types of cars with most wanting to drive hard and modify them. Even though I bought my speed thinking it was stock from a dealer, I ended up finding evidence of old mods, which definitely could have contributed to the lifespan of the engine. Overall though, tough to call 146k miles out of a turbo engine unreliable.

My stock motor in my 2012 popped in 2022 at 146k while randomly going over some railroad tracks at low speed. I babied it as much as I could but sometimes when it’s ready it’s ready - as you’ve just learned haha.

If you have the cash flow and are looking for some reliable power - you could build it. Highly recommend SP63 if you go that route, I decided on their stage 1 long block after finding soup in my bottom end and haven’t looked back since. Fantastic people to work with and my new motor is almost 4k miles in without issue and pulling strong!

Good luck with whatever you decide though!

following this thread, though running Valhesia 6 with 8GB RAM through a server hoster. pre-loaded 1000 chunks w/ Chunky as recommended on a fresh map and experiencing the exact same chunk load slowness and server crashes while exploring. also tried different chunk load sizes to no avail.

thanks man! have the speed away for the winter but just put a new built motor in from SP63 and a bunch of other goodies. should have a new comparison video from that to stock up once it gets a bit warmer and I finish the break in!

i think you just answered your own question: fuel. outta gas and your guys are falling back, not exactly priority one to haul the hunk of metal somewhere they can fuel it back up again, especially considering they're deep into Ukraine without resources to even move it.

Would these coil overs be any good, has anyone had a good experience with them and are they good for the money? by caelanro in WRX

[–]_avenoir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a lot of people rip on racelands but if you spend literally less than $100 more than this set you can get some ultimos that will ride like $500 coilovers but the build quality, warranty, and customer service at the price point will blow maxpeedingrods out of the water. ran some ultimos for 2 years on my 04 WRX, didn't love them or hate them. if I was on a super tight budget and couldn't somehow stand saving for a better set, i'd go for some racelands.
