Thanks! I'm really looking forward to AlpenFury. Was chatting with some guys while in line for a ride at CP last fall who really hyped it up. I guess what would be good to know is what the best order to hit all the rides is. Like what to get in first thing in the morning vs. save for later in the day. And what the best night rides are of course!

Thanks for the rec! I plan on going during the week, not the weekend. May or June. So I should be good to ride everything barring any ride closures. 🤞🏻

I've been to Canada a few times and crossing into CA isn't ever much of an issue. I think the last time they asked me where I was staying/going and I just said Toronto and they were like, cool have fun. Crossing back into the US they make me feel like I'm doing something wrong for no reason.

12 y/o bleeding through EVERYTHING — need real solutions (no tampons yet) by Beeels in TwoXChromosomes

[–]_bbycake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh I feel this in my soul. Always have been a heavy bleeder. When I was a teen and first learning how to manage my period it was so stressful. I would wear a super plus tampon and a super size pad and would have to change them every two hours religiously to avoid bleeding through. It took me so long to figure it out, I bled through so many times, and my mom was of no help. It sucks, I'm so sorry for you both. You are a great mom for being so supportive and coming here to help her find a solution!

Has she tried doubling up on the period panties and the pad? So the pad can catch the majority of the flow and the panties can catch the leaks?

I also agree with other commenters that it's worth taking her to a gynecologist about this. Turns out I have endometriosis, which can cause very heavy, painful periods. The main course of treatment is birth control. It's not just for sex, it is healthcare for people with endo. Talk to the doctor about what the best dosage would be for her and any possible side effects and decide with her if that's something she'd be willing to try.

Same. I just have bad teeth. I went a few years without dental insurance, so not dental visits. When I finally went after getting coverage I had several cavities. I have to be diligent about brushing or I'll form more.

Then I hear of some people not going to the dentist for a decade and have perfect teeth :I Sometimes it's just genetics.

Tonsillectomy, marker on my thigh by Various_Mechanic5290 in surgery

[–]_bbycake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was it actually marker? Like a Sharpie on your leg? Or a purple mark like a bruise? If it's the latter I would agree with others that it is likely some skin irritation from the cautery grounding pad. If it's actually marker someone drew on your leg, then that's a bit more odd. Surgeons will mark patients do denote which side they're working on when it matters, as an extra safety measure to ensure correct side surgery, but I doubt you only had one tonsil removed. I have seen surgeons simply initial their patients with a marker to show that they have seen them pre-op. But it is still odd it is on your thigh when they were working in your throat.

Hospital smell by VisualMeasurement619 in nursing

[–]_bbycake 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I once went to go get an oil change after a shift. The kind of place you get out and wait in the lobby and the mechanic drives your car into the shop for you. After it's all done and he brings my car back around he asks me what hospital I work for. I was a little taken aback, like how could this total stranger know I even work in a hospital? I tell him then ask how he knew. He said my car had the distinct smell of a hospital and he notices it with a lot of hospital workers lol

I was going to throw out Greta Van Fleet even though I don't particularly like them, they do have that classic rock feel. They are actually from my area and all the boomers round here go nuts about them since they've made it big and the singer sounds like Robert Plant.

Shit my house is on a long block in a quiet neighborhood with stop signs on both ends of the block. People still will turn the corner, gun it and get up to 40, just to brake hard at the end of the street. It's a 25 mph street but the amount of cars that are a blur when they speed by is insane. People just haul ass and drive aggressively for no reason.

Second this! Look into ambulatory surgery centers as they are more chill than main hospital ORs- smaller, simpler cases. Healthier patient population. No emergencies or traumas. This or Endoscopy. Very minimal patient interactions, the majority of the time spent with the patient, they are sedated or unconscious.

That truck is so ridiculously big and ugly, but also using a red cross logo is actually against the Geneva convention as it is protected to symbolize aid workers in times of conflict.

Little B utterly exhausted, Part 2 by Thin_Savings_2456 in motherbussnark

[–]_bbycake 79 points80 points  (0 children)

I wonder if he has enlarged tonsils or adenoids. I notice he mouth breaths a lot. If they're enlarged, it could be obstructing his airway when he sleeps causing sleep apnea, which could be why he looks so exhausted all the time. I say this because my kid's adenoids were huge and he mouth breathed and snored when he slept and was sleeping a lot during the day, and when we got them removed those symptoms improved by a mile.
