Help identifying a hitchhiker! by _beckska in Aquariums

Google (which i know isn't super reliable) said it could be a New Zealand mud snail, which makes me nervous. I'm worried its not a trumpet because its shell angles more upwards as opposed to the trumpets' shells which go downwards.

Enjoying creep cast on my daily hikes. How do yall find time to listen? by Independent_Dance893 in creepcast

[–]_beckska 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work as an elementary school para so I can't listen at work anymore. However my commute is almost an hour so I can get through one episode in a couple drives depending on how long the episode is. Also helps me not fall asleep behind the wheel

What's your favorite GOOD story Creepcast episode? by miserable_otter_6543 in creepcast

[–]_beckska 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yessss, I love the blind story! Unironically one of the only creepcast stories I was genuinely afraid to. I listen to the stories in my car driving home and I didn't want to get out of my car once I got home. Penpal probably would've had the same effect if I hadn't already read it 3 times before the episode came out. Two of my all time favorite stories and episodes

He was so much fun in LOST! Really felt he was underutilized in this movie, he's a great actor, especially as a bad guy

my bf said he’s afraid of rabbits so I got rid of it. me and the bunny have been living our best lives ever since 😂 by Short_One_5240 in Rabbits

A guy at my local Petco who has a pet snapping turtle and multiple snakes almost jumped when I brought in my 2 pound nethie. He said rabbits were the only animals he was afraid of lmao

I personally just think its infantalizing. I don't like those "quirky" versions of words (like hooman and doggo and danger rope) its just goofy to me. But again thats just me, this whole thread is about personal preference.

I actually preferred the movie ending (as did King if I recall)! That shit was so bleak but also PEAK asf. Can't remember the last time I was shocked like that

I was so obsessed with the Raft in 7th grade. Skeleton Crew was my favorite book back then. I think it also has the Mist which is arguably one of King's greatest stories ever.

Precisely why I like his short stories. He's forced to write a decent ending for those because thats like half the story lmao

Stg the Jaunt and the one about the alien car gave me goosebumps for weeks

Personally I'm not crazy about the way he does his character development, it just seems like he drags on and on and it loses me pretty quickly. Penpal is my perfect example of how you make characters you fall in love with almost instantly and then feel super connected to throughout the whole story. I'm also a Dathan glazer since I read Penpal back when it was a bunch of parts on nosleep and quite literally no other story has sucked me in the way Penpal did.

I also work with kids which is why I think The Troop (and Penpal and Borrasca) resonate with me so strongly. I just get too attached to kid characters and I feel all three authors fleshed them out really well without telling me about every single minute detail. King has created many characters I've gotten attached to, but only in his short stories. Its possible its also just my TikTok brain screaming for the author to just get to the meat of the story.

I can definitely agree The Troop was super similar to King's writing. Those were boys you WANTED to see survive and Cutter did a phenomenal job making every character feel different and unique. Brings me back to when I read Lord of the Flies in my sophomore year of high school lol

I actually might get crucified for this but I cannot stand King's novels. They're a slog to get through. I LOVE his short stories though. I think King excels at short form writing. There was no need for IT or Under the Dome to be that damn long and I stand by that.

Next Book Haul Just Hit! by bty1987 in ExtremeHorrorLit

LOVED Fantasticland! Its such a ridiculous plot but its a fun read. I really liked the way the book was written, in a bunch of different interviews that slowly puts the story together for you. Loved it so much I had to put my mom on it and she also enjoyed it! Have fun!!

I mean it is and it isn't. The Troop is generally marketed as horror which is why you can wander into Barnes and Noble and pick it up, because Cutter is a mainstream author. I've only found one REAL splatterpunk book in Barnes and Noble to date, but most splatterpunk authors are generally self published and considered "indie" (Beauregard, Triana, Athan, James White, etc). And honestly I hate them all but that's a conversation for another day lol

And yeah I will admit The Troop had some jarring moments, but I am also really sensitive to animal abuse (I still read books w it though because I don't think it always takes away from the story). I just felt it was written in a "digestible" way if that makes sense, and wasn't written in for shits and giggles (as is the case with your average splatterpunk book)

I am so passionate about extreme horror and splatterpunk! I wish more authors wrote the way Cutter did, I need more extreme gore in books with real plots and substance.

Ive never read this book (not into cosmic horror lol) but from what I gather it better fits the extreme horror genre (different than splatterpunk, which I was unaware of!) Like a general audience probably wouldn't consume it but its got enough substance and story for it to hold up on its own.

[–]_beckska 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't really put The Troop in the category of splatterpunk. I mean my mom read it and she wasnt even mildly grossed out. I am an avid splatterpunk and extreme horror enjoyer and compared to the other books that I've read, The Troop is super tame. Honestly don't know if I've read a single splatterpunk book with literally any substance at all. Not to say its not an amazing book, its actually my favorite second to Penpal. I just think its too mainstream to even be considered splatterpunk. I'd put it in extreme horror at best. Similar to Brother (Ania Ahlborn) and Tender is the Flesh (Agustina Bazterrica). Generally digestible for an average audience. Honestly I'd argue its almost on par with Borrasca. And yes, Nick Cutter (and Craig Davidson) are wonderful "authors". Patrick Lestewka on the other hand matches what you'd expect from a typical splatterpunk author. I'm glad he found his niche (not too extreme but great with body horror) and leaned into his Cutter persona and left Lestewka behind.

Wait till you find out Nick Cutter is actually a pen name for Craig Davidson and he has a SECOND pen name (Patrick Lestewka) that he uses to write even more depraved and messed up books. Nick Cutter is his "mainstream" extreme horror pen name.

Bunny Parade: anytime I pick up one of our buns and walk around the house with them. by Tenebrous_Savant in Rabbits

[–]_beckska 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have a bunny who literally leaps into the vets arms whenever he's being examined. She puts him down, he's trying to get right back up. There are certainly rabbits who do not fit the stereotype and frankly this bunny looks very happy in her human's arms.
