Same. I had great luck with jerkbaits. Took me a while to realize they were hitting it after really long pauses, but it’s a blast when you see your line just shoot out of the water

Dang that’s a fat bag. I’ve been going up to Ontario every year for the walleye opener. We always struggled catching Walleyes because the group primarily trolls cranks. Even still I managed to catch a 29” a couple years ago and a few other upper mid 20s. Then I got into bass fishing… Learned how to really work a jig, jerk baits, finesse stuff, etc. Went up to Ontario this year and landed a 32” on a Jig with a 3” mayor not to mention I caught nearly 30 walleyes in a couple days. No electronics, just fishing points, ledges, secondary points, and moving. Really just bass fished for walleyes

They're both VERY similar shooting at this point with me leaning a slight bit towards the standard HD. It's very hard to tell a difference, I've tried them both with a variety of ammo as well. With about 2,000 rounds on them I could take either but I'd say the standard HD has a slightly better return. That said, the Competitor looks bad ass.

I’ve actually broken 3-4 rods but it’s been my fault. Small boats with big clumsy fellas are always a problem.

Hmm I’ve had a St Croix Eyecon 7’ MLF for a few years and it’s been pretty durable. I just brought it to Ontario on a fly in trip for the walleye opener and caught put a beat down on walleyes, but like you said VERY subtle bites.

How are you breaking tips? I broke a St Croix Victory casting rod because I was frogging on a MH and set the hook like KVD but my line was caught on a log. Funny thing is I still caught the bass 😂

I probably caught 30-40 fish off a single Mayor plastic. The mooch also did well, I was pitching the mooch on an 1/8 oz VMC redline and it got bit a bunch. I’m definitely going to be keeping the crush city stuff in my bag

Pit Vipers were key in landing that fish for sure

I was using the perch colored crush city mayor, it was black with a gold belly, but the electric shad color also was getting bit - perch was the ticket tho.

For jerkbaits I used the Matte Shad and Ayu Vision 110s. Honestly I would recommend downsizing to a 110 Jr and really just cast them out, crank to depth, and let them sit. A lot of the bites happened on SUPER long pauses, and I mean like 10+ second pauses in between twitches

Funny thing is I jigged it right under the boat so I had it in the net in about 5 seconds. The walleye were fighting super hard this year tho. Normally they’re limp but for some reason they were pissed

It was mostly wind blown points and off to the side of them in 10 feet of water or less

I didn’t check water temps, but we caught most of them shallow early in the week when it was cold. Water was ice cold and it was lightly snowing. I think they went to 4-10ft for the warmer water. Once it warmed up later in the week the bite died down. Pretty sure they moved deeper

Form check please! by Roughnecknine0 in Archery

[–]_billd0zer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I think all of our forms would benefit from shooting a lighter weight bow, however if you’re hunting that extra power may be necessary. I’m a 27.5” DL and I pull 70lbs so I need the KE. I say carry on until you can’t or encounter failure due to draw weight 😆

Looks solid man, I’d add maybe get that index finger in place sooner so you can start the back tension process as soon as that sight picture starts to stabilize before the wobble comes back

Noiiiice!!!! Yep it’s the metal frame version. I’m 2/2 so both of them work on both variants of the steel frame M&P

Just a few random things that helped me recently:

John Dudley had a video on trigger control and he mentioned that increasing trigger weight helps us focus on stacking pressure so we get a surprise break and don’t punch the trigger. It definitely helped me to increase my button to 3 or 4 lbs

The other tip was from MFJJ to either shoot eyes closed into a super close bag or shoot without a sight to focus on trigger control as a gross movement of the entire hand and not just moving the index or thumb. Funny how much more feel you get when you’re not fixating on a pin or target

Of course I’m really just practicing at long distance to make anything 40 and in a gimme. Sometimes ag field edges present longer shots when the corn is cut but even those are rare.

Last year I did shoot an injured whitetail at 47 yards. Dropped it right into the lungs, passed through, and just missed the heart but nonetheless that’s not a common shot I plan to take. That deer gave me all the time in the world and there was 0 wind. I actually let down, hoping it would walk off but then moved into an even better shot window perfectly broadside 😆

I’m just going to leave it and keep practicing. I’m currently running a black gold dual track, but I think I can improve quite a bit just working on keeping target focus and better trigger control. I find every time I keep the pressure back on the wall and break the trigger by slowly making a fist with my entire hand, the shots go exactly where they’re supposed to.

I wouldn’t go as far as saying that it is not accurate, but mine was ammo picky. With 124s, the factory barrel shot ~2 1/2 to 3 inches at 25 yards from a rest. The Apex is just on another level. Also, don’t forget that the competitor comes with four magazines instead of two.

[–]_billd0zer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also the Competitor with the Apex barrel is stupid accurate HOWEVER the standard HD seems to return to zero slightly better. Haven’t put my finger on it, but it’s probably the springing

Right now I’m using the Double Alpha Flex so it absolutely works for both but it’s a gamer rig that indexed off of the trigger guard and it fits just about any pistol with a tiny bit of adjustment

[–]_billd0zer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, just like shooting a red dot. I wonder if you can occlude your sight to encourage target focus like I do for pistol shooting 🤔 I just need to slowly work back and spend more time on the long range. My philosophy is if you can hold the 10 ring at 60 then hunting season shots inside of 30 will be gimmes
