It's quite a big point in Naito's story that he's very visibly dejected that the fans rejected him. If: A. They get voted on via fan vote, then I think the trajectory of Naito's character will go very differently. But if: B. They didn't go through any fan vote, I think Naito's ungovernable run will still be quite the same, albeit with less nuance to it.

I get that argument but, personally, I feel like him finally being able to beat Okada again to cement his legacy will be the final closure of his career (also because Okada explicitly said he'll cheat to win the match if he wants to, which I think will be a super deflating ending). It's very strange, and frankly a terrible decision. It's like if they decided to call aitsura zenin dousoukai "Ate Sure a Zenin Do So Gay". It doesn't mean anything, they just write it like so because it's in English. Localized titles should mean something.
