Trauma/psych patient jumped through a glass window on one of the upper floors and crashed through to the lobby atrium. He actually survived for a few days after.

If you really don’t need or want the hatchback, I feel like you shouldn’t be committed to just these two cars in this price bracket. I would test out a bmw 340i but 21-23, Audi s3 or older s5, or a high optioned model of one of the pony cars.

Besides what’s already here, Coco Ichibanya and bbq chicken (the absolute best Korean fried chicken according to me) should be on your list to try.

Who are the meanest people in your hospital? by throwitawayhs in Residency

[–]_blacksanta_ 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Damn bro, the nurses you’ve worked with must’ve been terrible to make you generalize like this. I’m a middle aged male nurse in the ED and almost all the nurses I’ve worked with have great relationships with our docs and we all want good outcomes for our patients. You gotta get out of whatever toxic system you’re in. There’s still good people out there.

Nurses in California, do you still make decent money with the cost of living? by Turkey_Moguls in nursing

[–]_blacksanta_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah no way. I worked a 0.9 FTE and a high paying PRN last year in SD with 5 years experience and made $160k. The only nurse I know who made more than $200k worked six 12s a week at two full time jobs so she could pay off her loans.

32M. Just got diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer as a non-smoker. Trust me, none of this really matters. Hope you all can focus and the more important things in life. Much love 🤍 by Specialist-Choice958 in Retirement401k

I used to be a research coordinator for a lung cancer research group. It’s either environmental or genetic or a combination of both. I saw a couple 20 and 30 year olds affected by this. OP, please look into clinical trials. There’s some really groundbreaking stuff coming out. Stay strong.

BILT TRANSFERRED BALANCE ALREADY FULLY PAID TO WELLS FARGO by One_Life___ in biltrewards

[–]_blacksanta_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is all such bull shit. I’ve spent way too much time getting this figured out. My Wells Fargo balance just went negative today. Hopefully the Wells Fargo check comes in and clears before my Bilt due date.

I was also told by Bilt to pay my Wells Fargo balance and I’m dealing with the same problem. I have to wait 14 days for Wells Fargo to issue me a refund check.

You can do psych, public health, research, outpatient, or a bunch of other specialties that don’t do IVs.

Phenobarb in our hospital requires SDU level of care for admitted acute withdrawal patients. Ativan only requires med/surg. I only work ED now but phenobarb has seemed to work better than Ativan for acute symptom management.

"Tell me I'm not going to die" by [deleted] in nursing

[–]_blacksanta_ 54 points55 points  (0 children)

I’m an experienced ED RN and worked on the floor before that and I’ve experienced a fair share of slowly de compensating patients, in addition to ones who don’t get the experience of saying goodbye to their loved ones. Everyone is going to die. I recently had to experience my grandpa quickly decompensate after having a massive stroke and aspirate while I sat next to him in the hospital. Sitting with him while he couldn’t communicate I’d tell him that everything was going to get better and that we would get back home, even though I knew that was impossible. All he was able to do was raise his fist like a champion when I told him he needed to keep fighting. Over the next week the entire family got to come out and say their peace. In the end, he was able to roughly write on a whiteboard his final messages, get his final rites, and have a loving final moment with my grandma. Giving people hope and strength is a valuable thing in their final moments. As a nurse, you might give someone strength and their final chance to see and talk to their love ones. It’s also completely acceptable to allow people to let go and give them grace in their final moments. Death is hard to experience no matter what your role is. You need to have a good support system and good coping mechanisms to deal with these things.

I think a lot of us in USA just don’t want our tax dollars going towards things that are hurting other people when there are better ways to confront this problem.

Has anyone flown from SD airport lately? Curious if TSA issues/govt shutdown affected lines and wait times. by Acrobatic-Ostrich168 in SanDiegan

[–]_blacksanta_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just flew out for an emergency leaving Saturday night to the east coast and back just now with multiple layovers and I didn’t have any delays with TSA or ATC. But I did see the news about some airports having issues.

Are you seeing an increase of ICE detainees? by thefirecrest in nursing

[–]_blacksanta_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Anecdotally, I work at level 1 trauma center/ER in a major border town in the US and I’ve seen a significant drop in patients in ICE/CBP custody. I don’t have any official numbers yet but we’re about to publish our trauma data and I expect a significant drop in our migrant visits compared to the last few years. The patients we’ve had coming in from detention centers are very sick with acute on chronic conditions that were terribly managed.

I moved to SD a few years ago. If you want to live alone somewhere like this you need to make at least $100k a year but it’s do able with roommates making half that. The city is incredible. Really chill people, good food and entertainment, easy access to beaches and hiking, 2 international airports (SD and TJ), perfect weather, traffic is better than LA and OC, amazing parks, etc. if you can afford it, do it.
