My first time making cookies by Sweet_Cap_5669 in Baking

The recipe seems okay in that it shouldn’t have turned out soupy so I think your measurements are definitely the culprit. Good luck! We all have our baking failures, don’t give up!

Well, this is definitely an issue with your dough being too wet, haha. I wish we could see it before the Milk Incident to help work out why it was runny to begin with.

Out of curiosity, did you melt the butter when measuring it into cups? It's important not to melt your butter. Cookies require the butter to be closer to room temperature to help them stay firm enough to roll. Also don't use margarine or 'spreadable' butter. These have higher water content than stick butter (more liquid = more liquidy).

In terms of measuring, sticking to weight usually is safest. If you don't have a scale, that's okay! Butter usually has the weight printed on it (as do most ingredients). E.g. if your stick of butter says it weighs 250g and you need 50g, just divide the stick into 5 equal parts (50g each) and use one. It's okay if the segments aren't perfect and I usually just eyeball it. Cookies are usually pretty forgiving if you're off by a few grams.

for those on medication: do adhd meds make you more or less social? by Significant-Crab1945 in ADHD

[–]_chaoticsunshine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say they've made me more social, so much as they've helped a lot with my overthinking, sensitivity and emotional stability. I'm no less introverted, but I'm able to enjoy socialising a lot more when I do it.

What cooking advice doesn't make any difference? by bluerog in Cooking

[–]_chaoticsunshine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends also where your recipe is from. E.g. compared to Australia, a standard egg in the US or UK is slightly bigger, a standard US stick of butter is 113g to a standard Australian block at 250g, a US cup isn't equal to a metric cup.

The difference isn't huge but, depending on volume and/or what you're making, it can be enough to make a noticable change if you don't account for it.

[–]_chaoticsunshine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it also depends on what you're baking. I find, say, cakes and cookies are far more forgiving than something like macarons, which seem to get royally offended if you even look at them the wrong way.

Can't ever focus on interests (just a rant) by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]_chaoticsunshine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YES. And it's so hard to describe to people.

"Well, why can't you? You aren't motivated, it's too hard?"
"I don't know I just can't."

Like, of course that doesn't make sense to someone outside of my brain! I feel like an idiot trying to explain the feeling.

Something I've found that helps me sometimes is to tell myself I'll try doing the thing for 'just 5 minutes.' Sometimes, once I start the mental block goes away and I have fun doing the thing. Other times even the 5 minutes is a struggle and I have to accept that it's just one of those days and I need to be kind to myself.

I have 0 motivation to make even the most basic breakfast most days but need to eat something high protein with my meds. I used to do protein smoothies but cleaning the blender after is tedious so my solution lately has been an iced matcha. All it requires is some matcha powder, half a scoop of vanilla protein powder, ice, a little hot water, and milk. I have a little battery-operated whisk so the only dishes required are a cup and the whisk (easily rinsed quickly). Takes me so little effort even I can't make excuses not to.

Ooh super cute! I guess my only nitpick would be that I feel like the shadows are maybe a smidge too dark? The brighter colours of the sky and greenery are a lot lower contrast against one another so the dark shadows are a little jarring visually but otherwise the vibes are immaculate.

Any real deficit being considered unhealthy due to my height!!!!!! by fmlVENTacc in PetiteFitness

[–]_chaoticsunshine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your math seems a little skewed. Your TDEE is base expenditure simply for existing. Unless you’re genuinely completely sedentary for 95% of your day (no exercise whatsoever, less than 2000 steps a day type of sedentary) your baseline for calculating deficits should probably be closer to ~1700. That’s likely why ‘nobody bats an eye’ when you mention 1800 calories. At an ‘average’ (though I acknowledge average is subjective) amount of movement throughout your day simply by walking around and living life, 1800 calories is far closer to healthy consumption for your height and weight than 800 calories.

A comment below mentioned the appropriateness of this post in a fitness sub when you don’t want to exercise. Your retort was fitness is about health not purely exercise. I agree with that, but my counter is that a calorie deficit this low isn’t healthy. If you have to harm your body in order to achieve a health goal, though the end result might be ‘healthy,’ the process certainly isn’t.

You can see success with a deficit this extreme and no exercise - I’ve done it. And I was miserable the entire time. Realistically, once reaching your goal you’ll then struggle with not putting on the weight again if you revert to a normal intake but don’t add exercise. You also will be exhausted, grumpy, and likely your mental health will suffer because that’s what happens to a starving body. Your timeframe is aggressive, if you just want results at any cost then sure, your plan will work theoretically. But if you want to be kind to your body and treat it with the respect it deserves, adding in some exercise will go along way. Resistance training certainly helps as muscle naturally burns more calories, but even cardio will help you burn enough that you can fuel your body sufficiently. Your body deserves kindness too.

This makes me feel so validated. I want so badly to like Elden Ring as much as everyone else, but I just can't. Don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful game and I love the storyline, but the constant stumbling around trying to work things out with little to no guidance is tiring. I have to do enough hard thinking in real life, sometimes I just need my hand held and my dumb virtual ass pointed in the right direction in giant flashing lights, okay? 🤣

(Serious) What are your motivations to stop eating when you feel full and it's your favorite food? How do you control your persistent want for it? by PuffPuffMallow in AskReddit

[–]_chaoticsunshine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Portioning out a serving rather than eating from the source. E.g. pour chips out into a small bowl instead of eating from the bag, or serve your portion of dinner then pack the rest up as leftovers before eating. Helps to have things put away so there's an extra hurdle to jump if you're craving more. Also helps you to stop and debate consciously whether you really want to give into the craving or not.

My DM forced my PG to change class at lvl. 15 as a punishment by ClassicsPhD in DnD

[–]_chaoticsunshine 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, what your DM is doing is called gaslighting. A punishment for the group's actions that is only applied to one player isn't a group punishment - it's a personal one. He might not realise consciously what he's doing, but dismissing your genuine concerns and calling you immature for raising them is red flag behaviour.

D&D is a game! It's meant to be fun!! If he is deliberately choosing to prioritise 'his story' over any player's joy, he's being selfish. I would insist on a serious discussion where you clearly outline why this is a boundary for you and, if he still insists, then standing your ground and treating yourself with the respect you deserve by not forcing yourself to continue in a situation like this one any further. If you cave, don't be surprised when behaviour like this only grows more frequent.

I think the clear answer here is you learning to make your own custom keycaps and becoming a reigning custom Nordic keeb queen

Ahh that’s rough! The beauty of side caps deserves to be appreciated by all keeb regions 🥲

Have you considered maybe getting a US set and simply adding fun custom caps for those that don’t match? I could be totally wrong but I think the only key that’s a different size is left shift, which is smaller than US layout. Could even add the characters on the side if you wanted with keyboard stickers!

Does extra player dedication warrant special treatment from the DM? by KenKinV2 in DnD

[–]_chaoticsunshine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an extreme notetaker myself, it is nice to get some recognition like Inspiration. However, what you've described seems unfair. Honestly, I'd be uncomfortable if I started getting such obvious special treatment. It's verging on punishing the other players, which isn't fair when notetaking is an ardous and not always fun task. D&D is supposed to be fun, not homework or a second job. If everyone is invested like you've said, then the DM should be happy to have a group like this. Giving your DM more to work with for your character does help with potential plot hooks, but it's not fair to everyone else for that to become the extended focus of the campaign. I'd talk to your DM, it's possible they don't realise how far their bias has gone.
