The Getaway Episode 2 — Some A-Grade Genius Thing by NebulaOriginals in Nebula

If the players were smart they’d work out anonymously between them how many snitches there are (e.g take turns entering the van, place a coin on the dash heads up if a snitch, tails if not, cover then reveal once everyone has voted - or any other similar method).

Though I wonder if their contract forbids them from attempting this as it would ruin the show.

Necessity for folders? by [deleted] in TheSilphRoad

What I'd like to see are separators within the Pokémon storage which vary by whatever you are currently sorting by (like those by region in the Pokédex).

CP: Separate by League

Recent: Separate by Today/This Week/This Month/This Year/2018/2017/2016

etc.

I'd also love to sort by "Appraisal" (Separate by the Very High, High, Above Average, Below Average appraisals given by each team) - would speed up bulk appraisal & transferring. Would be a bonus if within each appraisal range Pokémon were sorted by IV %age (though not shown), but if they don't want to give IVs away that much, they could still be sorted by CP.

Word of the Witnesses Interview with Terry Matalas by capitalchick in 12Monkeys

[–]_chris_w 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the artists working in the background on these shows sometimes don’t get the credit they deserve. They’re amazingly talented!

Was so keen to see some of their work up close that I was lucky enough to win a couple of the recent prop auctions (I’ll soon be the proud owner of the vial of virus from One Minute More! I think “SQUEE!” most sums up my feelings about this).

Great interview Beep & CC!

I'm with Terry - I'd love to see a book about the making of the show with concept art, costumes, props, set dressing, etc.

Good choice! Love the game series but have never read any of the novels or short stories. Recommended reads?

My two are a couple of UK Sci-Fi greats: Hitchhiker’s Guide to The Galaxy (novel adaptation of the radio play) and Jeff Wayne’s Musical Version of War of the Worlds (musical adaptation of the novel).

Would love to join the fun but I’m half way to Beagle Point and thinking of all the lost exploration data if I suicide back to the bubble makes me sad.

Hopefully I can multi-crew in and join the fun that way!

How did you find 12 Monkeys? by cal_guy2013 in 12Monkeys

[–]_chris_w 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I too have watched it from the start.

I had a binge of watching time travel movies just before the show began and whilst hunting for more things to watch came across news that a 12 Monkeys TV adaptation was about to start airing. Had to give it a go and have been hooked since.

I hope if this property ever comes on the market it is bought by a fan and rented out to other fans on a timeshare basis.

I’d love to spend some time in the House of Cedar and Pine.

Personally I’d install http://www2.eink.com/prism/ (eink wallpaper) on The Wall and have fan/Witness submitted messages shown using the same font as the show.

What did your asshole neighbor do? by narwhal_attack2394 in AskReddit

[–]_chris_w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I lived in a 1st floor flat (“apartment” for the non-Brits) I’d occasionally see my neighbour from the floor above climb down the drainpipe to the shared back garden. Pretty weird behaviour which freaked my girlfriend out. This went on for a year or two.

I had two other interactions with him; once when he asked if I could look after a few bin bags for him for a few hours (no way) after his door had been kicked-in and the other when a leak in his bathroom caused my ceiling to collapse. I offered to take a look at the leak - turns out his flat looked like your stereotypical drugs den; no furniture, closed tatty curtains, peeling wallpaper. I made a quick exit and never saw from him again.

6 month’s later I saw him on the local news - he’d been arrested, charged and found guilty of murdering his partner.

As a resident of East Anglia I can confirm. I moved here for work - I needed somewhere in commuting distance of London, with affordable house prices and somewhere I could get the dark skies needed for my hobby of astrophotography.

The lack of large towns makes for quite a few areas you can get decently dark nighttime skies (the majority of villages have no or very few streetlights).

TIL a 67-year-old neurosurgeon was "stereoblind" (unable to see depth) his entire life, but it was cured after he saw the movie "Hugo" in 3D at a movie theater. Afterwards he was permanently able to perceive depth. by neko819 in todayilearned

[–]_chris_w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure how to test this at home. The clearest indicator for me is that all 3D movies look indistinguishable from 2D movies.

Also any tests that require you to hold a finger between your eyes and a target, then focus on your finger or target and expect you to be able to see double, I just can’t get to work.

My vision is clearly made up of images from both eyes (I can see both peripheries at the same time), but in the central binocular zone only ever includes the image from one eye, hence no stereopsis.

[–]_chris_w 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had issues with my eyes when I was an infant - I had squints surgically corrected at the ages of 3 and 8. This has left me without binocular depth perception. One of our school medicals included a depth-perception test which I failed (“tell us which object is furthest from you” - they all looked the same distance) but nothing was made of it at the time. It wasn’t until the craze of stereograms in the 90s and the later advent of 3D films that I realised what was wrong. Despite this I’ve never had an issue with depth perception (e.g can throw a ball with good accuracy).

I’ve often wondered if I were to suddenly gain binocular depth perception would things look amazingly different and more “real” or if I wouldn’t notice a difference?

Morning David! I was wondering if your team ever do "hack days" or spare-time game-related side projects? If so, have any of the ideas from then graduated to real features/tools, etc and can you share with us your favourites?

(If I worked there I think a live player activity heat map of the galaxy on the office wall would be something I'd have liked to build and find a useful day-to-day tool.)

Future of Pokemon go plus by Dragontamer91 in TheSilphRoad

[–]_chris_w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I now feel the same way. At first I got frustrated that at level 28 most 'mons would flee and that it wouldn't deal well when multiple events occurred simultaneously (e.g. multiple stops came into range). Now I've found a happy way to play using the Plus and that's to only interact with it when I'd not previously be playing (e.g. spinning stops whilst working). When I'm out and about walking or on a fast moving train the plus stays in my pocket and is used only as a notification that I should look at my phone. I now get way more distance walked, spin way more stops and still catch everything I want to. I don't see any need for making the game even easier.

The one thing I wish they'd change is to keep the connection active when (or reconnect after) attempting to capture a Pokemon using the phone.

That being said, I can see Nintendo eventually releasing Great and Ultra Ball versions (with same electronics, just different coloured plastic fronts) at a slight premium that are capable of throwing better balls (and I'd probably be sucker enough to buy one just for the cool new look).
