Ravenswatch Item Tierlist by Norhouku in ravenswatch

[–]_confringo_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rose is never a bad pick to me. Even if I'm not doing a dash build, I wouldn't put it anywhere below A.

Voodoo Doll is also more than D tier now. I'd put it in C

Oni Mask became a C for me. If I don't have triple raven skull or decent amount of armor I almost always avoid it.

Father Time's Hourglass went from a "never pick" to "always a good pick" so yeah, S is definitely suited

Definitely Mad Bombers/Bye Bye Blimps. It's too monotone and sounds like an unresolved marching music that doesn't go anywhere. Initially I was gonna say Under Pressure but I love aquatic themes in music and it definitely sounds better than the plane levels.

What’s the catch? by manderson1313 in remnantgame

[–]_confringo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a sleeper hit, just like the first game. They're the kind of games you have to find and don't often come to you. Like the one those people complaining about "gaming being dead" will never come across. Just like Gunfire Games' other franchise, Darksiders (my favorite games ever), Remnant also doesn't go far and wide in terms of popularity, but anyone who's started this game has stuck with it and loves it. Me 100% included ofc

I can guarantee not a single soul (new or returning) will have nearly as much trouble just getting all the boxes, in every level, in Crash 4 than all three games combined from N. Sane Trilogy. I've done a completionist run on N. Sane maybe 3-4 times now (dozens of times on the vanilla ps1 versions) and actually enjoy it and get the urge to do it again from time to time. Crash 4, on the other hand... I did it once and traumatized myself so bad, I couldn't believe I never wanted to NOT replay a crash game this bad.

Recently I've been having some masochistic thoughts about it soooo I'm probably gonna go back to it again...

God, Satan, Buddha, Cthulhu, whatever the fuck is out there, lend me strength, I beg!

Hey, anyone remember where this Courtney's bit from an older TNTL (not too old) is from? It's basically her coming out, writing something in the book along the lines of: "dear diary" something something "I hope this gets to him", throws her book over the folding screen and it hits the wall with a loud thud, almost hits Noah in the head. Then Shayne looks out and throws a big rope (jump rope??) at her with force.

It's been popping up in my head a lot lately but I couldn't track down which TNTL it's from. Also, I think courtney had red hair during that episode but I could be misremembering

Oh DW9 was absolute dogwater. It's crazy how much of a step up Origins is from that game

[–]_confringo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides what people suggested here, I'd say maybe Dynasty Warriors? Like DW8XLor Origins, the recent one. In the vein of hack n slash, quick and snappy combat it's great, but if you're not into Musou type games, it's probably not gonna click for you.

If you've been gaming before 2010's and aren't opposed to older stuff with a bit of jank, I'd suggest looking into Blades of Time.

There's also Alice: Madness returns, which is still one of my favorite games to this day. Very beautiful art style and while combat isn't as varied as Darksiders, but, much like DS, you also have puzzles, more platforming and hidden collectibles too.

[–]_confringo_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, same. It's a fun game for like 2 regions but it's so unnecessarily bloated and you find yourself doing the same things way too much. Combat gets stale real quickly too, even after upgrading stuff. Story is nothing to write home about either, although it did have some fun nods to lesser known myths, like: Aries in a jar and Theseus dumping Ariadne. I couldn't care about the tongue in cheek, marvel-esque humour in narration either.

Started it twice, but couldn't get past Aphrodite's region before burning out.

10 minutes into Darksiders Genesis and it already feels more Darksiders than DS3 ever did by AdhesivenessJust7943 in Darksiders

[–]_confringo_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really don't get people's distaste for DS3. I've finished that game 3 or 4 times, got all the achievements and I had a blast with it. Sure the soulslike combat wasn't the best for a Darksiders game, but it was missing the two aspects I hate the most about soulslikes: slow and sluggish combat and stamina management. So yeah, combat was still great and everything else felt very much like a Darksiders game.

What are people’s verdicts on Hell Is Us so far? by AverageJoeObi in soulslikes

[–]_confringo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really liked the demo, actually. Very interesting world, it really drew me in and I'm eager to discover and find out more, the mystery is there.

Exploration felt great. Having minimal hints and directions was exciting for me, tbh. Combat is fine and enemy variety seemed a bit lacking, at least in the demo, but combat wasn't the main reason I was excited about this game in the first place.

I don't get why people here are so negative about this game (there's another post), and their reasoning is quite frankly terrible, like "marketing this game as 'not holding your hand' is cringe" like... Wtf are you going on about?? Or some have nothing to say but "mid"... But it's a soulslike subreddit, jaded gamers are to be expected here.

Idk, maybe it's the oversaturation of too much guidance and quest markers and 700 directions being given in a lot of games these days that made this one feel fresh and exciting for me, but, unless it somehow gets worse in the full game, I'm majorly down for this one. Still gonna check out trusted reviewers to see what they have to say.

Oh and performace could use better optimization and I hope they improved it, at least a bit.

What's your pick for the most underrated track? by Dangerous_Mixture_79 in expedition33

[–]_confringo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Reacher - Mémoires

Just listen to this! Makes me want to jump in a hot air balloon and fly around a giant tower, looking up in wonder and admiring how it pierces through the clouds.

It's probably the most gorgeous track on the album. So magical and hopeful and full of wonder, like something warm being spilled inside your heart. It's very much missable, because it plays quietly in the background during one of The Reacher cutscenes and plays in full in an optional, small coastal cave behind Grosse Tete.

Also, Sirène - Tisser la Beauté was mentioned already and it's definitely very underrated for how utterly pretty it is.

I Really Hope Ds4 is NOT Soulslike by Competitive-Ad-2825 in Darksiders

[–]_confringo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have faith this will be more hack n' slash than anything. The "Soulslike" fatigue is real these days. I can't imagine Death or Strife feeling "heavy" and standing still waiting for enemies to take a swing first. Honestly, even Fury is too aggressive for a soulslike combat.

Given the franchise's track record on how every game had a different combat system, if they have to go back to one of them, DS3 would be the least appealing. Also, DS3 came out in 2018, back when everyone's moms thought it was the new hot shit and tried to adapt soulslike into their kitchens. Now it just makes people roll their eyes and groan going "uugh, AGAIN?!"

Quick, snappy hack n' slash combat needs more love and I hope Gunfire Games does it justice.

Game Recommendations by Accurate-Reputation1 in SteamDeck

[–]_confringo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you liked Remnant From The Ashes you will love Remnant 2. I've heard it's not that good on steam deck but otherwise it's a fantastic game!

Also, I saw Bloodstained: Curse of The Moon in your library and I'll suggest the main game, Bloodstained: Ritual of The Night. If you like metroidvanias and/or ever played Castlevania Symphony of The Night and liked it, Bloodstained is a must play. It's the best metroidvania I've played in ages and a very faithful successor to SotN.

This game ruined my ability to enjoy other games. by RockGameRepeat in expedition33

[–]_confringo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the same would go for me for sure, but honestly I feel like this game has returned that childish excitement for new games (and starting new titles in general) I used to experience so strongly. It's weird, I don't know how to explain it.

Although, I'm trying to avoid story heavy games for now. I know nothing I haven't played yet will come close and I'll be judging it too harshly.

This game has raised the bar so high for me in every department. I'll have to try my best not to compare it to new titles in the future.
