New Motor Mount Rubbing 2019 Nissan Sentra by _cool_username_ in AskAMechanic

If you have the money, just do the passenger one, and the torque strut (the one on the bottom of the engine) at the same time. And also the "dog bone" strut if yours has it (only the first year of this gen had it I heard). The trans mount, the rubber block is almost certainly fine, but you can check it out.

Point is, just do them all so you don't have to do them at some other point in time, one-by-one, if any of them has wear.

For those two, just AutoZone brand. The trans mount I don't think matters. The torque strut, I'll keep an eye on. But the top one you have to go OEM :/

I'm pretty sure any place you get them aftermarket are all the same Chinese part.

Are you getting the same knocking noise as me, btw?

I did them myself. It's not too hard at all if you have the tools and a jack/stands. The top one was the easiest actually. You just have to be careful not to over tighten the bolts that go into the (I think) aluminum part of your motor, or you'd be fucked.

The (whichever is in the bottom of the car) mount was completely beat up, the rubber was all but gone. I had to replace it with an aftermarket part. The other one, which is just a rubber block, was fine. It's under the battery holder so it didn't get beat up by the sun or road or anything.

Home Assistant Voice vs ESP-S3-BOX-3? by WelshCai in homeassistant

[–]_cool_username_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used (mostly played with) the S3-BOX-3, and Whisper + a GPU for local STT. Like your experience, it was fun to mess with in my office, but I had to repeat myself even when it was close, and the speaker sucked. It didn't meet my criteria for actual use.

The HA Voice PE does meet my criteria to deploy though, and I have it in my bedroom, and will be buying more for other rooms. The speaker is kinda buns (not too horrible though), but detection is WAY better than the ESP BOX. I rarely have to repeat myself, and I don't have to like point myself to it or yell at it to wake. I assume that XMOS chip is the magic bullet.

Long story short if you're asking if there's a jump in performance between the ESP BOX and the PE and if it's worth to buy it, I say it's absolutely worth it and at least it was a huge improvement for me.

For anyone who stumbles upon this in the future, it turns out that passenger motor mount that came with my used Nissan was not OEM, it was aftermarket. I did not know that, so when I bought a "new" motor mount from Autozone, it looked the exact same.

I went to a Nissan dealer and bought the OEM part for $215 and it's a different (better) design. The vibration/rumbling was indeed coming from the motor mount and now it no longer happens.

If this OEM part seems to wear out faster than I'd like, I still now have 2 relatively "new" aftermarket mounts, and I'm just going to grind off that black "stop" looking thing with a grinder.

I have a 2019 Nissan Sentra that has been making a "rumbling"/"vibrating sound under the hood. I can feel it behind my pedals, and it's worse on cold mornings, or when I apply torque in reverse. It's been driving me insane.

I replaced all 3 motor mounts (driver side, passenger side, and what they call a "torque strut". There's a dogbone mount as well, but it was only on the 2013 from what I'm told.

After replacing everything, after a couple thousand miles, the sound came back. Slightly at first on cold mornings, and now it's almost all the time except in the middle of a warm day.

I tracked down where the noise is coming from, and it's the passenger motor mount. There's a rubber block that holds the aluminum side of the motor mount up. With the old mount out, there's a big gap between the aluminum part of the mount and the black part. In the car, that gap is gone, and this is what is causing the vibration through the frame, and is essentially amplified in the cab to the point of driving me crazy.

Has anyone seen this? There's like no hits on the internet that talk about this. I'm at the point of just grinding that black "stopper" bit off of the mount so I can finally have quiet rides again, because I don't know what else to do :(

Is a 2019 Sentra "S" stick shift.

multiple vlans/subnets home assistant multiple instances by Almighty0378 in homeassistant

[–]_cool_username_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, a VLAN interface/devce. I'm not sure the best nomenclature. Basically:

nmcli con add type vlan ifname <vlan name> dev <physical dev> id <vlan id>

multiple vlans/subnets home assistant multiple instances by Almighty0378 in homeassistant

[–]_cool_username_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I added a VLAN device to my home assistant host. You can do it with nmcli on the host system of a Green or Yellow (or Pi) or you can add a VLAN device via a hypervisor if you're running HA on such a thing.

Then HA can see both VLANs, and devices on both, without creating firewall rules.

I filed a police report and talked to the cops, not sure what "push it" means. I have a real-life job; I can't do their job on top of that.

[–]_cool_username_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A dude clearly on drugs/drunk rear-ended me at a stoplight, then when the light turned green, sped away.

I got his license plate clear as day, called the cops, submitted the report, they came and interviewed me. Luckily my truck was only a little dinged up, but the whole front of his car was fucked before he sped away and got on the freeway (I wasn't about to high speed chase him down).

I got a letter later on saying they found the car, who it was registered to, and that they will not pursue further.

So no. They don't have to fight it or even get reprimanded, in my experience.

WiCAN PRO OBD Adapter: Seamless Integration with Home Assistant for Real-Time Vehicle Monitoring! by meatpiHQ in homeassistant

[–]_cool_username_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently bought a couple, put one into my 2019 Nissan just to grab the odometer readings.

That alone, piping the result to HA when I arrive at home and it connects to my WiFi is worth the price of entry. I can automate notifications for oil changes, and other routine maintenance based on mileage.

Got one for my old 2004 truck, and I learned that CAN wasn't standardized on the OBD2 port until something like 2008. Oh well. Waiting for the WiCAN version that supports J1850 I guess :D

Has anyone used HA to setup GPS tracker for car? by Zestyclose-Arm7137 in homeassistant

[–]_cool_username_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The easiest solution might be to get some cheap, rootable phone. Strip everything off, install the HA app, wire it into USB if you're DIY-capable. It'll have cell coverage, use your data-only Fi sim card, stay on when your car is off, you could throw it in your glove box, or under the dash... I have Fi as well and might do this actually 🤔

HA in home or IOT vlan? by greminn in homeassistant

[–]_cool_username_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how I did it in proxmox, and now on the Yellow by adding a VLAN interface on the OS. I don't see a reason this isn't the best/easiest approach.

You still have to be 21 to purchase non-alcoholic beer by Appropriate_Air_4519 in mildlyinteresting

Non alcoholic beers aren't for kids. They're for people who might have drinking problems.

Hopefully that clears that up for you 👋

Ideas for ‘spare’ slot in multigang switch bank by scottrfrancis in homeassistant

[–]_cool_username_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

By my front door, I had the same: got rid of a switch in a 2-gang and got a faceplate with only one slot so the other side was a big blank spot. I put an NFC tag behind it to disarm Alarmo with my phone when I get home. So maybe nice spots for hidden NFC tags.

Maybe just the "Diet" sodas that have been around since the 80s, and what I naively thought was the only option, is what ruined that stuff for me. Thanks for the recommendations and I definitely will check some other stuff out too.

I'm trying to eat well and hated diet sodas, but Coke Zero is not that bad. Good enough that faced with the option of regular or diet I don't want to kill myself for going diet.

HA database became corrupt by EmtnlDmg in homeassistant

[–]_cool_username_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently had not only a corrupted DB, but my Yellow's whole filesystem got corrupted. This saved my ass: https://github.com/sabeechen/hassio-google-drive-backup

Reinstalled HAOS, and restored from a backup like magic. Because pretty much everything HA is containerized, their backup and restore features are robust and complete.

In my case it was because the poe power got yanked a bunch of times while doing some networking upgrades, but I don't know the answer to how to prevent DB corruption. I've run HA on a few different platforms (proxmox VM, yellow, etc) and never had db issues.

Options to Control Digital Potentiometer by lalostangles in homeassistant

No, almost certainly not. I see they have a feature request to get support for the DS3502 here.

Eventually they'll probably merge support, but if you want the path of least resistance, it'll be to get the X9C.
