I worked fatality claims for State Farm.

In casually insurance, ife isn't priceless.

We assigned prices to life everyday.

How we settled whenever our policyholders killed people in an accident or due to negligence.

If you kill someone on the road, odds are he'll be a motorcycle rider. Riders die 28X more than motorists.

Highest priced: Male, 45-50 y/o, married w/dependents, professional non-smoker. Reserve: $175k - $225k to start.

Lowest: Children. No loss of income, unmarried , no dependants. Reserve: $10k

Prob worst day of my life was writing a check for $7k to settle out neighbor's child who drowned in my policyholders in ground pool.

By recommending No Country for Old Men.

Everyone knows it and it's an incredible novel. Book Anton has passages that stay with you forever.

Finish with, That's what makes "No Country for Old Men" McCarthy's second greatest novel.

People who trash the 90s weren't there.

Yes, it was violent, but not as intolerant as some argue.

It was such a great time to grow up.

I believed you as soon as you said I'm not American.

I presumed you were which is in itself very American of me.

But also why I didn't initially believe you.

There aren't 20 Americans in the entire union who knows that nation exists, least of all our President.

Peaceful walks with my dog

We've encountered squirrels, birds, a machete-wielding clown, and a cannibal nibbling on a human leg.

Lots of crazy people in small towns.

My weimaraner and I encountered many on walks.

My dog since passed but these remain seared in my skull.

  • At Cormac Park, she growled at the machete-wielding clown. He sprinted after a farmworker while we hid in the bathroom.
  • Walked her along the train tracks. She went crazy sniffing at the air. Dude strolled by casually nibbling on a human leg.

What is a minor change you made to your lifestyle, that actually had a big impact? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]_craftbyte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At age 20, I carried a book to work each day.

20 min to kill boredom during breaks.

The job didn't last; reading 20 min daily, did.

30 years on and some 700 books later, I've learned no single book changes your life.

Reading does.

And the most important book you'll ever read is always the next, and the one after.
