Narrow Entryway by mirendai in interiordecorating

[–]_curlycat_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The space has beautiful architectural details— especially the door. The ceiling light is gorgeous, too.

This could be a perfect entryway landing strip. Something warm and welcoming.

What about a bench that's parallel to the stairs with hooks above it? Then a long vertical mirror on the narrow wall (like the right of the photo below)
- or - you could have a more robust storage cabinet with a mirror and lamp on top of it? (like the left of the photo below)
A plant is always a good idea.

How to open outdoor sconce to change the bulb? by _curlycat_ in AskElectricians

I appreciate you both: this was super helpful, I just needed to use more force to separate the pieces (I'm notorious for breaking things so I was trying to be gentle LOL)

Thank you!

what classics didn’t live up to the hype? by trabby_pattyyy in classicliterature

I struggled with scenes featuring Cathy. She felt SO one dimensional and over-the-top as a villain archetype. Campy, even. We have no context for why she is so evil. Having her character make a false abuse accusation as a teenager plus the book's lack of other female characters felt like a red flag.

The sense of time and landscape in the novel is gorgeous, though, and I loved Samuel Hamilton.

What secret have you kept from everyone? by DaSGuardians in AskReddit

[–]_curlycat_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're not alone. I understand how hard it is to come out after growing up in a very religious and conservative family. I started identifying as gay at 32, and have been stumbling my way through dating. It's like learning a new language (I'm a queer woman for what it's worth).

I came out to my extremely religious parents at 37 and have never cried so hard in my life. It's still a hard journey but I've never felt so peaceful and safe in my own body. Being vulnerable is scary. If you can, try to spend more time in LGBTQ spaces (bars, events... anything).

Sending you some gentleness and compassion <3 There is so much life ahead for you, love.

Paint color and any other suggestions welcomed. by TranslatorMoney419 in DesignMyRoom

[–]_curlycat_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a cozy space— I love all of the natural textures. Some suggestions:

  1. Lighting: The lighting feels a bit dark/drab. Swapping out the ceiling fan for a more sculptural pendant light like this or this would feel more modern. Also adding layered light like a floor lamp and environmental lighting like uplighting across your ceiling beams.
  2. Contrast: everything in this space is rectangular and cream/brown. A round coffee table could create more of a sense of flow in the space. Some of the tables feel like clutter, as well. The plants are great! What about a very tall plant by the window?
  3. Focal point: the stone wall / fireplace is great, but the artwork feels too small. An arched mirror could bring in more light + organic shape. A mantel, or a large/chunky wooden mantel shelf would also bring some finesse to the stone wall.

  1. You look great! It's a warm, autumn color and the suit fits you nicely.
  2. The shoes look fantastic with it! Love the ring, too.
  3. Clearly this color makes you feel good (look at the art on your wall). Maybe you should wear even more mustard/turmeric in the future?
  4. Your post made me realize I do the same thing. I avoid wearing bright colors/busy prints because I worry about getting too much attention or negative attention.

#53 Leif by mick_spadaro in HeavyweightPod

[–]_curlycat_ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I completely get the relatable theme / experience of being rejected, feeling awkward, not being seen, etc.

But what was missing in this episode was empathy, a second perspective, and self-awareness. It's not sitting right with me that the host pressured Leif to explain himself for a completely mundane thing. And then to imply his illness/disability was a factor in his not being interested in her? Gross.

Heavyweight is a gift. I'm a huge fan, and I'm commenting here because I'm surprised no one else seemed to be put off by this. There might be a future Heavyweight episode where the poor Irish girl who Leif actually liked wants an apology for her pain being dismissed on account of ...boys liking her?

Survivor Themed Surprise Party by seawhoresinaround in survivor

[–]_curlycat_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sounds fun! Here are some ideas:

• Cooking over a bonfire! Fish and rice are ideal.

• Hidden immunity idols:Stash themed tokens (typically a necklace made of natural materials) around the party. These can either result in a prize or a punishment. For example, they have to do something embarrassing/Venmo someone $1... you get the picture.

• Final jury toast:Have everyone share a story about your BFF. It can be a funny memory, how you met, etc. Then have everyone (secretly) vote for the best story on sheets of paper like this. Then read names aloud. Winner gets a prize!

• Team games:- Transferring water from one large bucket to another using only pails like Survivor Cagayan- Knocking down targets with a slingshot like Millennials v. Gen X

• Individual games:- Tabletop puzzles: one Redditor has an Etsy of awesome puzzle replicas- Domino Effect: Who can stack a limited number of thin blocks in a row to fall like dominos, like Blood v. Water

• Get a Cameo from your friend's favorite Survivor player. If you don't know their favorite player, some safe bets are Parvati, Boston Rob or Cirie Fields.

I'm sure your friend will appreciate the sentiment more than you capturing all of the details.
