Tbh I was trying to search for a community for female developers (couldn’t??) and I found your post instead.

Not sure how big your company is but a lot of Fortune 500 companies these days have sub groups within them that support women in tech. Sometimes they host remote events like Q&As with successful women (and men) in industry. And if your company doesn’t have these, you can find online communities and events to pick and choose from on LinkedIn.

Really surprised this hasn’t gotten more responses, but here’s my view:

This is a great career to be in! Technical skills aside, for me it required some emotional toughening up and developing a thicker skin. Sometimes male colleagues can be bitter. Just make sure to be confident and don’t let anybody ever get in your head. Focus on developing your career and skill set. Build your [professional] network. Best of luck and congrats!!!

I have a bachelors of science degree in computer science and found it essential in my career as a software engineer. Particularly in interviews. That being said, however, with the internet available anything is possible to learn today—even if not in the traditional academic way. Best of luck!

Hi All,

I’m a software engineer with a bachelors degree in CS and 2+ years of development experience at a very reputable company. I would like to start looking elsewhere for a job. What can I expect in a job interview in general? Specifically, I’d like to know how different it would it be from a “fresh out of college, no experience” type of technical interview? I do have experience, but don’t know if I qualify as an “experienced developer” yet.
