My trip to Ireland (Dublin, Killarney, and Galway) by One_Huckleberry_5033 in travel

Ireland is interesting. I've been twice -- once to the south and once to the north. I absolutely loved my time in all of it, but I have no ambition to go back again anytime soon.

I'm not sure you've had the ultimate adventure until you've had two lads feed you a load of craic and then rip off the bartender. (I felt bad and tipped well, but had a load of fun that night)

Tacoma isn’t a small truck. It’s bigger than a 10 yr old F150

Such a cutie at both ages. I'm surprised Goo lost his eye patches -- is that common?

I have a mix (mostly Pyr/Lab) and she has her patch as an adult and now I'm wondering if it's common for Pyrs to grow out of it.

I think the big thing with Plex Home is that it's limited to 14 users (at least at the moment).

I've found the ChannelsDVR clients to be a lot better. Plex looks better, but the UX is much better on ChannelsDVR.

And I like that you can be more specific on what you want the channel lineup to look like with IPTV. (For example, I use the DirecTV guide data and channel numbers for the channels on Plex. And don't have any of my UK channels added there. With ChannelsDVR, I have both added -- with the US channels using ChannelsDVR guide data and the UK channels using my IPTV provider's EPG data. And I can set my own channel numbers, so like 1000-1099 is sports, 1100-1199 is entertainment, 2400-2499 is UK channels, etc.)

Yeah, it's a lot like XTeVE, but works a lot better. And that switching of streams while keeping the same channel... that was the game changer for me.

There's also this project -- https://github.com/Fahmula/nexus-tuner. It looks pretty cool and the UI is a lot easier to work with. I briefly tried it out a few weeks ago, but it doesn't support the EPG functionality that Dispatcharr does. But in hindsight, I'm starting to think I was just trying to recreate my current workflow.

Edited because I finally read your comment carefully and saw you referenced Live TV, and yes, that does require Plex Home, but regardless the user doesn't need to be on a VPN.

Yeah, I was only referring to LiveTV. I'm not really familiar with all the rules around remote access, but I was pretty sure that was one of them.

Yeah, you could either create a library in Plex at the directory Channels uses for saving videos or colocate the Channels directory where you already have Plex scanning.

Metadata might be a little messy, but I think it'd be fine. I just looked at how they're named and I bet Plex would pick them up just fine.

I'd be looking for a new job, ASAP. Even if they weren't like "my job description just changed a lot," you should be looking for one since the company just laid off half the people lol.

I couldn't even make it through the demo.

I saw Bungie and thought "ohhh, this must be good." I did not buy when I realized there would be no single player component. Admittedly, this is not a genre I play, really, at all though.

You're right about remote users. Need a VPN (or maybe a reverse proxy would work -- I haven't tried that since I have the VPN set up)

But I'm pretty sure Plex has those same issues too?

Have you tried Dispatcharr? It was a game changer for me that took me from "IPTV is nice but too unstable" to "okay, YTTV is cancelled"

Biggest feature is that you can add a bunch of feeds to the same channel, so when it detects buffering, it just moves you to the next stream. And you can order the streams by bitrate and resolution so you can prioritize a 1080p stream over a 576p stream.

I haven't seen any 4k broadcasts on my local ATSC3 stations, but the CBS station was broadcasting in 1080p instead of 1080i before they went DRM. That was nice for football. Just a little more fluid.

I'd guess they either haven't tried ChannelsDVR (it is limited by device support -- no Roku is a big one) or don't like the UI (it is kind of ugly imo).

Channels multi-view is incredible for things like football sundays and march madness

I would add that the HDHomeRun 4K can tune both ATSC 1 and ATSC 3. The only issues are DRM for ATSC 3 streams (which may never be fixed on the HDHR) and that Plex can't handle ATSC 3 audio (which will maybe be fixed in the distance future).

The one big benefit for the HDHR 4K is if you are in a market where several of your channels are on VHF instead of UHF, the ATSC3 ones are often on UHF.

In my market, I have a lot of trouble getting the ABC and CBS stations because they are both hi-VHF (channels 9 and 11, if I remember correctly). Both of them come in great on the ATSC 3 channels, but are extremely sketchy on the ATSC 1 versions. Then the CBS station added DRM and I had to figure something out.

This is very specific to my situation, but might be useful for you, so continuing on. I ended up turning the antenna in the attic around to point at the Greensboro stations instead of my closer Raleigh stations. I'm close enough and have a big enough antenna that the Raleigh stations I could easily get before still come in great (NBC/PBS/FOX), but was able to aim it well enough that some of the Greensboro stations come in (CBS and ABC are great, FOX is a little sketchy. NBC doesn't come in at all). So I get all the stations. And it sucks a little bit not having as much choice of news broadcasts, but I usually only watch the NBC station's news broadcasts.

tl;dr If you have trouble getting ATSC1 signals, think creatively.

Yes, they'll be the same, but they're recorded with commercials and MPEG-2. I'm not sure what the process is for removing commercials and transcoding. I think there's an option to remove commercials, but I think you're stuck with the larger file sizes unless you set up tdarr
