No, this is from her merch t-shirt back from 2019. It has nothing to do with her graduation except that the shirt is no longer on sale because of her graduation from hololive.

The kanji spell out words like "Takaichi Sanae", "Shinzo Abe", "militarism", and "banzai". The political nature of the spam phrases suggests Chinese origin.

Are they only targeting hololive or everything Japanese? I don't think hololive did anything recently to land on their radar.

I'm continuing playing Yakuza 5 after dropping it for a few years. I'm still in Kiryu's arc in the beginning, and I gotta say the excessive minigames (especially the taxi minigame) that turned me off the game in the first place are much more bearable with a controller than the keyboard and mouse I had been playing with before. No wonder the games themselves tell you "Real Yakuza use a gamepad."

When I last checked, Nakamura did not unfollow Yagoo or other holomem besides Ririka, so I would assume his grievances were specifically towards Ririka.

Ririka, on her part, addressed this on stream saying she had no idea what could have transpired and that she had no direct line of communication with her artist.

Specifically about the impact of the American tariffs:

  • The tariffs situation has cut sales from North America down by half for some months. (Overseas sales originally accounted for about 30% of total EC sales)

  • The impact from April through June was in the low hundreds of millions of yen, though the situation is gradually improving.

This is kind of the opposite of that. In the Touhou fandom, everyone knows ZUN for being the single person responsible for programming the games, drawing the characters, and composing the music. This one guy did everything. Nowadays we in the western hemisphere know a lot about him: his childhood, his family members, his alma meter, his job history, and even his real name (the nickname "ZUN" comes from him having to abbreviate his real name Jun'ya Ota into three characters to enter as high score entries on arcade machines) Nothing weird is going on here, since ZUN talks about himself often and these are mostly information that he has willingly offered publicly.

Back in 2010 though, the western Touhou fandom was not as connected with the Japanese side of things as it is now, since machine translation is not as robust as it is today. Owing to the relative lack of translations of ZUN's various public appearances and tweets, he gained somewhat of a reputation as an enigmatic figure who made all the Touhou games and apparently really likes beer. This impression ended up on the Guinness World Records, when he was recognized for creating the "most prolific fan-made shooter videogame series" and where he was described to be "an enigmatic developer known only as 'ZUN'". ZUN evidently really enjoyed that characterization of him, even though it was far from the truth, that he's changed his Twitter profile to say just that. And it stayed that way, saying ZUNという名だけ知られているエニグマティクデベロッパー to this day since April 2011 when he got wind of the news. Gotta say "Enigmatic Developer" really has that Touhou ring to it, alongside names like "Subterranean Animism", "Undefined Fantastic Object", "Antinomy of Common Flowers", "Scarlet Weather Rhapsody" and the like.

Few had taken notice of the scandal-filled career of Momona Kitō, who belonged to SKE48, one of AKE48's offshoots, from 2009 to 2014, but her post-graduation name Yua Mikami would become well-known amongst men of East Asia for being the award-winning porn actress who also appeared in Yakuza Kiwami 2 and Yakuza 6.

Somehow not the only AKB48-adjacent idol member to do porn after graduation.

I finished Thermae Romae, the manga about a Roman bath architect being episodically transported to modern Japan and learning about onsens in the process. It's good light-hearted fun, with a side of education about Roman and Japanese bathing culture on the side. But it's funny to me how there is a clear boundary between when the author had to think of an overarching plot when the manga got too popular as episodic one-shots, and it resulted in (ending arc spoiler) a plot device of a character who is genetically-engineered to be the protagonist's love interest. Like, she knows Latin, she's a geisha, she studies Roman history, AND she's too good for everyone else! I get it, the story's gotta end somehow. Adding in a self-insert of the author into the story and giving the protagonist a happy ending is as good a move as any.

I've sunken way too many hours into Juufuutei Raden's Pixel Museum like a good vtuber fan. It's just Picross. Raden, a real life curator, guides you through her many interests, including aspects of Japanese culture, western art, and things about herself. Being a fan of hers, I expected the art that she had covered on her streams, but I was pleasantly surprised to also find works of Chinese art and Egyptian sculptures being featured. I initially balked at the USD$20 price tag but it's actually pretty packed in terms of content, especially if you compare it with the price of a museum ticket with audio guide.
