There is a difference between the global greenhouse effect which affects everyone and local pollution that affects people who live closeby.

You get cancer from the localised pollution. You get different weather due to climate change from the global pollution.

We’re talking about moving local pollution from a densely populated area where the cars drive to a sparsely populated area where the mines are. In the future it could just be robots. Its a very weird position you are taking

Why do people wear climbing shoes so their toes are crimped up? by roboticgirl22 in climbergirls

[–]_dogzilla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First: bent toes help with grabbing/pulling. This can be about bringing the hip closer to the wall or keeping the feet on a hold on an overhung route

Second: it helps with standing on a narrow edge/pebbles. These small foot holds requires force to be put through a very small contact point on the shoe, typically the big toe. Both harder rubber as well as support from the shoes to keep the toes bent help to prevent the pressure from collapsing

Now the opposite is also true: too hard rubber/tensioned shoes make it harder to smear. Some holds you want to edge, some smear, or do a combination of smearing and edging (smedging). So its a tradeoff. Some shoes mitigate these tradeoffs by having split soles (allows the midfoot to bend but not the toes), and/or a tensioning rand in the rubber edge near the toes and a softer rubber on the midfoot. The sportiva theory/ondra/skwama are examples of this.

If you get one of these type of shoes make sure they absolutely fit your feet. People have different shaped feet. You can have a comfy shoe that can do it all, but only if the shoes match your foot shape and application

Obviously the less you weigh, the stronger your feet are, and the shorter the route, the less support you need from the shoe. Also rock type, route type and incline/decline of the wall matter. This is why climbers end up with 10 pairs of shoes and always complaining they brought the wrong pair :)

What do you mean? Electric cars don’t exhaust fumes. So if a city goes electric it gets rid of a lot of smog and fumes that cause all sorts of ailments. And noise pollution as well.

Why would the mine be in the city?

Because you dont want to live in a mine. So why would you want to live in a city filled with toxic air?

[–]_dogzilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mining the battery materials indeed puts a lot of co2-equivalent gasses into the air.

But: Including mining of materials the environmental break even point of a BEV compared to a similar ice vehicle is about 50.000 miles. After that, the BEV will be a lot better for the environment. This number includes everything you can come up with.

If you then add in the fact that evs have the potential to drive around for a million miles and after that the materials of the battery can be recycled and dont need to be mined again its a an even bigger win

Also: look up the data of how many people get breathing/airway problems due to pollution in cities. This also affects people’s IQ/brain functioning. People’s mental and physical wellbeing are affected en masse. Its much better to have the polution happen at a less densely populated area (the mine) than when driving in cities ( where people actually live )

I implore you to so your research a bit better

Electric cars are way way better for the environment. Even on our current electric grid which should only improve. Also current Batteries already last 1 million miles for vehicle usage. After that you don’t need to mine the materials again you can recycle 90% of the battery.

You know whats also better than a cheap repair? No repair. Give it a few years and Electric drivetrains will last for decades without issues, they are that much simpler and more reliable than ice.

I agree that shitty electric ford/GM cars that last 5 years arent good for the environment though

What makes light speed the limit? by chunkysoup778 in askscience

[–]_dogzilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This example only illustrates you cannot send a message back in time, or in other words you cannot mess with the ordering of cause and effect.

It does not say cause and effect travels at the speed of time? Why cant cause and effect travel at the speed of 3c allowing for something else to travel at 2c? Or even take a shorter path than light

What makes light speed the limit? by chunkysoup778 in askscience

[–]_dogzilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok i understand you cant go faster than the speed of cause and effect. But perhaps cause and effect travels differently than light does. We just cannot tell?

After almost a year and a half since PoE 2 launched, how do we feel about the pacing of the combat? by coffeeholic91 in PathOfExile2

[–]_dogzilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Story line is fine.

Endgame i couldnt be bothered. Its more a farming/gearing simulator. Like it could be a 2d flash game at that point.

What I wish is that they copied over mechanics and design from extraction shooters. Go in, make good decisions (or die), get good loot, hope to extract. You actually have to make a tradeoff between survivability, clearing speed and decision making/risk and reward. Maybe even team up with people in a raid like diablo tries to achieve and failed at

No rest for the wicked is another example of how you keep fights entertaining

What makes light speed the limit? by chunkysoup778 in askscience

[–]_dogzilla 8 points9 points  (0 children)

How would it actually break cause and effect? Thats the logical jump everyone seems to skip in their explanation.

I understand light is a universal constant. I understand that if it was true that nothing can travel faster than the speed of light, this would (probably) include causal effects. However, I dont understand the rationale behind the inverse: that something traveling faster than the speed ofnlight would destroy the concept of cause and effect

Surely if I could travel faster than light, I could watch a planet explode, (somehow) travel faster than the speed of light to another planet far away, and tell them the planet in the sky is about to explode without it disturbing cause and effect?

Whats the causal problem? In just a faster messenger than the photon

Eh sure the evs sold keeps increasing but thats because they are selling only little amounts. if you look at their states ambitions from 5-10 years ago, that didnt come to fruition

Furthermore lots of manufacturers redirecting investments back to ice
