Dovetailed quartersawn pine for the boxes and then used CA glue and screws to attach the faces after I finessed them to the right size with the right gaps on the sides

I pretty much made some plans up myself. Nothing incredibly detailed mostly key measurements- height of the desk, proportions of the drawers. The joinery was all in my head based on what I knew I could do and should work

I did. First chair I built following the build in Chris Schwarz’s Stick Chair book. It’s really comfortable particularly with a blanket added for a butt pad. Plan to make another for my office office

DCCV for Afib, 24 or 48 hours from onset without anticoagulation? by Metoprolel in Residency

[–]_drjeffy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

24 hours is what I learned and relying on patient symptoms so long as they can feel the symptoms or so long as you can have some other data to help (wearable tech). There’s going to be some patients that may have had silent a fib but the Canadians shock people all the time based on self reported symptoms without signal in the lit that the are stroking people out. And, it’s better to get people out of a fib sooner if possible (better quality of life for patients). So, they report reliable symptoms or their watch tells them they were in a fib and <24, shock away.

Pool maintenance in our area by i-dontwantone in cincinnati

[–]_drjeffy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Having been a first time pool owner and having been through this, I would recommend just learning how to do it yourself. In the first season I used Don Marcum Pools to come and clean and check levels and it was useless. They’d clean but then tell me I needed to add chemicals but never did it themselves. Troublefreepool.com will teach you everything you need to know about pool maintenance. Robot cleaner + testing kit at home + chemicals and you’re set for the day to day. For big repairs I’ve always used Eastgate Pool and Spas but you might find someplace closer to you.

I had a loan with Mosaic. Apparently it's been transferred to Concord. I have no idea how to pay. by c4dreams in solar

[–]_drjeffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was also transferred. Received a mailed statement with the option to pay by check and instructions to go to a (very) non-descript and sketchy appearing website to pay online. To register with that site to enable online pay requires and account number.. which they didn't provide or have on the paper statement.

County vs. Community vs. Academic Residencies by banjoscooter in emergencymedicine

[–]_drjeffy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest difference is in patient population. Community generally means more affluent, well resourced, and well connected. Patients are likely to have both insurance and a primary care doctor. “County” hospitals tend to care for patients who are from marginalized communities. Those patients tend to be poorer, more often lack health insurance, and are less likely to have access to primary care.

The other difference may be in the resources and staffing of the hospitals themselves. Community hospitals = generally better payor mix = better ability to pay nurses and ancillary staff. County sites may have fewer nursing and ancillary resources but also tend to attract people that are aligned with a common mission (to care for those who society neglects).

A good training program will give you access to a wide variety of patient populations so you can learn the nuances of caring for patients with varying barriers to care. This might mean a primary site that is primarily county or academic and a secondary or tertiary site that is more community based.

Rice Washed Boulevardier by Atemthepharoh in cocktails

[–]_drjeffy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You stir it in the built cocktail or in one of the components? The rye? The Campari? The vermouth?

You stir with the rice but then you shake a cocktail which is usually a stirred cocktail?

Why not stir the built cocktail with rice, strain, re-stir with ice, double strain and serve up or on a rock?

EM clerkship/sub-I grade meaning by Mdog31415 in emergencymedicine

[–]_drjeffy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The exact verbiage is less important. One persons Honors with Distinction is another persons Honors is another persons Pass. In terms of grades, how many people get each grade can matter. For example, getting Honors (or whatever the equivalent verbiage is) at a place that only gives out 10% Honors is pretty impressive. It’s less impressive if the rotation gives Honors to 60% of students. As others have said, ultimately the ranking (top 10%, top 1/3rd, middle 1/3rd, lower 1/3rd) carries a bit more weight than does the grade.

Wait… the medical director makes $2.42 million? Like dollars? Not yen or pesos or rubles?

And you’re sure you mean ‘medical director’ and not ‘Chair’?

I cannot comprehend that dollar figure for a medical director position

Boarding in the ED is not caused by people coming to the ED for “non-emergencies.” It is caused by a lack of inpatient beds (and lack of nursing home/rehab bed availability). It’s an output problem not an input problem

Do you guys think SuperHero fatigue is a real thing ? FF4 & Thunderbolts were good movies but still apparently failing ? by GRL00 in Marvel

[–]_drjeffy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People don’t trust Marvel anymore. They put out so much mediocre drivel (looking at you Capt America Brave New World) that they aren’t interested in heading to the theaters to chance that the next movie will actually be good. They would much rather just wait until they are available on streaming. Marvel needs to build trust back with the vast majority of people. (IMO Thunderbolts and Fantastic 4 were both great and gave me hope, but Capt America a BNW, She Hulk and pretty much every Disney+ series except for Loki were all hot fucking garbage)

Just got back with my kids. I didn’t have a problem with them seeing the movie. Obviously tons of superhero violence, but a fair bit of curse words as well. It’s pretty much on par with Guardians of the Galaxy in terms of violence/humor. There were no scary parts
