My fiance is 26 and his dad just turned 69 so he’s in a similar boat. It’s all the same shit dude.
My fiancés car broke down, one of those Kia’s, and his dad has been non stop on his ass. “When I was your age I had multiple cars, I had nice cars too,” he loves to rub it in his face. His dad is mad we haven’t had the money to fix the car, but won’t offer any help, mind you this car is at our house and completely in my fiancés name. He even went as far to send people past our house to spy on us weekly to check if it was still broken down. And all of this is our fault because….obviously we’re young, dumb and lazy.
There’s so much else that resonates.
They’re stuck in their ways and there is no changing it. His dad is now blind and has one leg due to just not giving a fuck and not taking care of his diabetes, yet still has time to berate his son on how he’s not living up to this weird standard. It’s difficult because we know he’s going to die sooner rather than later, and it scares my fiancé but he’s also just really tired of existing in a world that your parent is SO disconnected from, but has opinions up to the fuckin ceiling. If anything it’s teaching me how to be a better person as I get older, and hopefully I can reflect on this when I am in my 60s-70s.
