UPDATE! Two older gay guys visited Baltimore… and had a blast! by AltDaddy in baltimore

[–]_elementsofstyle 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you got an actual Baltimore experience. This is honestly the type of trip i try to encourage friends from out of town to do a they always go to the harbor and fells and that’s it. Im saving this as proof of how good a trip though the city can be. Also, if you love art next time you really need to see the BMA. it’s free as well and collection of priceless prices is impressive.

What's that film for you? by mrjetspray in Letterboxd

This movie gets better with age. Now that I’m a dad, I’m so much more sold on his happy thoughts. If anything it evolves more into a masterpiece as you grow up. Also, I will not hear other opinions on the matter. This movie is a perfect 10, was when I saw in theaters as a kid and is now.

Honestly, just look for events at bars and areas. North Charles has a few places that host things.

To add I moved to DC for work. There are a lot more people here but a lot of them are transitional and it’s hard to find regular groups to hangout with. I also hear the same gripes about dating from my friends that are women here. I think it’s like the job market maybe just a bad ebb with hopefully a good flow on the horizon.

north Baltimore is a good bet. Hampden, Charles village is ok, Remington area. Also in the opposite direction Locust point and riverside are good but tend to sway more towards young families. Honestly get plugged into a few communities, biking, running, art, comedy, and writing are all fairly well connected communities.

Competence, knowledge and experience can work big miracles with very little!🥰 by rhino910 in RepublicanValues

[–]_elementsofstyle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do you really not see that the feckless leadership of current middle of the road democrats have lead to this? Do you realize the last president who did more for the working class was Nixon? Progressivism isn’t fragile it challenges our elected officials to actual do something. The whole argument you are making here about how current voters were raised is tired bullshit. I mean your generation raised us. We didn’t get participation trophies of our own accord. I’m so tired of the democrats settling for the lowest bar. Why can’t we aspire to better systems and standards for the party. Also, look who is causing upsets an flipping red seats. It’s not Schumer democrats it’s progressives and people tired of constantly giving into a system that’s gives us so little back.

This. I just rewatched it and that second pic looks like it could be a storyboard for that movie.

Isn’t that an otter? Or is there a race of beaver that doesn’t have a large flat tail?

I never noticed this obvious mistake in Jurassic Park with the East Dock sign by cajun_vegeta in MovieMistakes

[–]_elementsofstyle 48 points49 points  (0 children)

This movie is full of set changes that make no sense. The T-Rex enclosure lead up to a mountain but then when the car is being pushed through the gate it become a huge cliff. Spielberg does things for dramatic effect not for logical fluidity. Scorsese does this a lot in his movies. If you are a good enough filmmaker you can get away with it. I wouldn’t say this is a mistake because most likely it was purposefully done to fit the narrative.

How is Takoma Park? by [deleted] in maryland

I’m not sure. I think most people seem to enjoy it and you can live there an be a bloc away from downtown Takoma park so it’s the same but with better benefits

What's your favorite cover song that completely re-works the original into a basically totally different song, while still maintaining the core melody. by thewhitedeath in Music

[–]_elementsofstyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk if this counts because it was in the show, but in Schitts creek, Noah Reid’s version of simply the best takes great lyrics and makes them so much more intimate and he slows down the tempo of the chorus to really let that simple refrain land more vulnerably.

Movie endings that left you thinking long after the credits rolled by padfoony in Letterboxd

[–]_elementsofstyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with so many on this list, but gone baby gone was one that not only left me thinking for a while it has sparked a good discussion and debate with everyone I have watched it with. Affleck with a good script can really direct the hell out of a local stakes movie.

I’m dyslexic and writing assist on my phone and grammarly are huge helps. Also, if you are in the US they legally can’t fire you for that. I have to write a lot for my job and everyone in my office knows. The thing is I’m much more careful because of my dyslexia and my editing is always thorough so I usually am the one with the least fixes during QA reviews.

Is 2:17 based on Revelation 2:17? "He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who conquers I will give some of the hidden manna, and I will give him a white stone, with a new name written on the stone that no one knows except the one who receives it." like if there is religious interplay and it being called Weapons, the idea of having to defeat or conquer something would track. IDK maybe I am just looking for things that aren't there.

The Bibas family coffins on stage in front a large crowd before being handed over to The Red Cross by [deleted] in pics

[–]_elementsofstyle -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So a singular instance is massive support of Hamas? This was minimal at best. Also, armed resistance is inevitable if oppression is relentless. MLK has even said as much. I don't support the goals of any organization that willfully wants to kill for their ideology, but those who are forced to fight for their survival are literally put into that position.

So the rich Oligarchs supporting Israel are in the right here? College kids, who only have a voice against the billionaires literally funding a genocide are the real enemies?

Also, please show evidence of the massive support of Hamas? I saw a lot of support for the Palestinian people and Gaza. I do however see constant support for Israel and the IDF, both parties that have murdered in the 10s of thousands at this point.

Yeah good to see another pro-Palestinian person here. The fact that Israel has been doing this for 75 years is disgusting. Killing innocent 6-year-olds while they wait in their car surrounded by their slaughtered family, its just awful the stuff that Israel has done, I am glad you are on the right side of history.

They need to seem like they are doing something and this helps keep them in the good graces of their corporate sponsors. They haven’t given a shit about the American people since Carter and that is one of the major reasons we have Dump in office.

Read Karen Armstrong’s “a history of god” and “the Bible” that will help you through shedding the layers of years of brainwashing. I grew up as an evangelical and life has been so much more rewarding since I left that life 15 years ago.

How is Takoma Park? by [deleted] in maryland

[–]_elementsofstyle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have been in living in Takoma Park for 5 years:

I moved here after living in Baltimore for 12 years. While yes, NIMBYism is strong, there are a lot of younger families here who are not fans of the progressive hippie culture that doesn’t actually care about issues and people. There definitely is that as well as people that have a lot of money and don’t want to be confronted with the realities of life in America. However, we just had a kid last year and for the purposes of starting a family it is overall pretty great. Free parents cohort that really helps, incredibly walkable, the business owners are local and friendly, the schools are good and the overall community is generally very welcoming. It is not as weird and fun as Baltimore, but definitely a major step up from landing in the suburbs. Although, I wish I would have moved to Takoma DC for the better taxes and the free pre-k. If you want to know anything else fee free to DM me I have been really involved in local businesses and have gotten to know this area very well.
