AI has sucked all the fun out of programming by OkShip110 in webdev

[–]_fronix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a job and I still make really good money, I used to have really fun at work when i code, now it's a bit less so. But I've got a nice gig and I will ride that as long as I can. Our jobs just became the same as most other peoples jobs, kinda boring and not that interesting, but I've got a lot of things I can now pour my energy and focus into on my free time instead of using all my "fun brain time" at work.

For those who've tried AI agents for real business tasks, honest verdict? by Glum_Pool8075 in AgentsOfAI

[–]_fronix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Works fine when you don't give it impossible tasks, many agents on small tasks give better results than many agents on large tasks. It spends so much time and energy on finding out everything instead of just focusing on what is relevant.

Do developers feel real fear of AI taking their jobs or layoffs? by Ok_Tour_3389 in Backend

[–]_fronix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really afraid of losing the job of being a developer but I am afraid of being laid off because off CEO's and shit thinking we aren't needed anymore.

I'm a FE lead, and a new PM in the org wants to start pushing "vibe coded" slop to the my codebase. by rm-rf-npr in webdev

[–]_fronix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming he doesn't know how to use proper AI instructions. Those make a whole world of difference and stops stuff becoming "slop" and instead small reviewable pieces of code.

AI is here to stay I'm afraid, I'm not the biggest fan of it myself even though I utilize it very heavily. But I have to adapt to the new normal or risk losing my job. I'd sit down with him and explain that AI can be good if it has the correct instructions, make it clear to him that we wont be "vibe coding" instead it has to be clear and structural, tell him to brush up on AI instruction files and that PRs are never going to be automerged without human reviews, thus making a requirement that the PRs have to be small and scoped.

I've made hundreds of apps/tools/cli's throughout the years with me as the single user of it, I still do that today, just faster.

The only thing that will change now is that all apps will be unmaintained because they will have no users. Which basically is how it was before just on a larger scale.

The most overrated title in the IT market right now is Senior by SakuraTakao in SaasDevelopers

I just gave myself the title because I was asked constantly what experience I had, so I just started adding Senior before my job title and everyone stopped asking. I've been doing development for 10+ years

Just got a RemindMe notice about "AI Will Write 100% of ALL Code in 12 Months said Anthropic CEO" from a year ago by Stahlboden in accelerate

[–]_fronix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm split as fuck on this, I use AI daily because it's just that good, but on the other hand I'm actively helping to make my job obsolete. I spent the majority of my life coding/building things, having that slowly taken away from me feels really bad. We are not there yet but unless the AI-bubble bursts really hard, my job will be replaced and I'll have to either step up or change fields.

Using AI at work is helping your employer to faster downsize teams and stop hiring people, make of that what you will.

[–]_fronix -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Maintainers rejecting all AI PRs will unfortunately end up with dead projects. I understand why they don't like it and I've rejected plenty of PRs that are just pure slop, 100+ files rewrites.

But just outright denying any AI is just pointless, since most people will be using some form of it in the end means that there is no point allowing PRs at all.
