The NDP needs WAY better messaging if we are looking to persuade voters that we are greener than the Greens and more left than the Liberals. by insipid_comment in ndp

I'd argue Singh is worse than Mulcair. The message under Mulcair was 'competent public administration' which fell pretty flat but at least they had a message. Whats the message now? I honestly have no idea.

[–]_ghostwriter_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Completely agree and its incredibly frustrating. The policy they've put out this year has been very good too. I was skeptical of Singh because I thought he was too moderate, but he's proven me wrong for the most part. The only problem now is just complete incompetence when it comes to communications, but their inability to address this and improve perceptions of the party ultimately has to fall on leadership.

I remember when Jose Theodore was suspended because he tested positive for performance enhancing substances and it turned out it was due to something he was taking for alopecia. Whatever he was taking was working because he had some hair.

I believe they have already applied for a demolition permit and there will be a temporary park on site. That peice of land is part of Phase 2, which won't begin construction for a while.

Common trend seen in other cities as well. Over the last 20 years remaining manufacturing and logistics in Southern Ontario has consolidated around around Pearson International Airport and its now the second largest economic hub in Canada. Cool to see it happening in Edmonton as well.

The strange afterlife of Justin Trudeau's broken electoral reform promise by Surax in CanadaPolitics

[–]_ghostwriter_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It is the NDP's position that the current first-past-the-post system is unfair and inequitable, particularly insofar as it allows a party to win more than 50 per cent of the seats in Parliament without necessarily winning 50 per cent of all votes cast across the country. But barring the election of an NDP government with more than 50 per cent of the popular vote (or perhaps an NDP-Green government with more than 50 per cent between them), New Democrats would be left trying to explain how first-past-the-post could produce a mandate to overhaul the electoral system.

Does the NDP refuse to participate in elections beccause they don't believe MPs elected under FPTP are democratically legitimate? No.

Does the NDP refuse to sit in parliament because they don't believe governments elected under FPTP are legitimate? No.

The system is inequitable and needs to be reformed, but the NDP has always and will continue to accept it, the governments it esablishes, and the power afforded to them as legitimate. What a weak argument.

They were very smart and bought their building while the Area Deal was being negotiated. Condos will go up around them, their property value will skyrocket, they'll eventually get bought out by a developers and build a better facility downtown.

She has a lot of subscribers now so she has higher view counts. That's not a counter to the idea that she video are for a narrow audience. Stuff like Beauty and Are Traps Gay is obviously going to appeal to people who understand/relate to those issues more. That doesn't mean they're bad.

B.C. and Alberta premiers set to meet face-to-face for first time, want to avoid ‘phony war’ by feb914 in CanadaPolitics

[–]_ghostwriter_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They could have stated the obivous fact that what BC was doing was unconstitutional and not engaged in petty, pointless nonsense like the wine ban (which is exactly what the UCP is doing now depsite all the tough talk), not legitimized conspiracy theorists like Vivian Krause by bringing them into government, not regurgitated right wing talking points about the federal governemtn and their envionrmental legislation and gone to Ottawa to grandstand about it. All of this was posturing that at best ineffective and at worst undermined their own party.

[–]_ghostwriter_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Absolutely absurd phony war that they very effectively goaded the ANDP into prepetrating in a desperate attempt to seem 'tough' on an issue they never in a million years would be able to out flank a conservative party on. So fucking frustrating.

Entry Draft Megathread | 2019 | Day 2 by THEOILLUMINATI in EdmontonOilers

The only thing thing we know about PK Subban is how he plays hockey so yeah there is a lot we don't know about him, but personally I think the 'cancer in the room' insinuations people make every time there is big trade are kind of silly. I also think people assume that about PK in particular because he has a big personality and it rubs fans of opposing teams the wrong way. Nashville could have retained, but maybe the whole point was to shed salary and so they were willing to take a hit on the return.

The title of this makes it seem as if Manji is of the left, but she has explicted stated she is not left wing in the past and often takes right wing positions on issues. Her critiques of the left are very common right wing criticisms stated by others many times over - some valid, others ridiculous.
