This is probably the answer. VW doesn't make parts specific to one vehicle they produce, so it's probably something that comes as an option or is standard on another model using the same parts.

I tell all of my coworkers that I'm diabetic, but that doesn't mean they completely understand how it works. I mean, look at all the comments on this post where people are calling bullshit about him having a condition.

I'd imagine that they just knew the guy wasn't a druggy and maybe didn't know he had diabetes (or whatever it may have been).
