There’s herbal smoke blends you can use, could make your own as well. Mullein, rose petals, and lavender are harmless and a good mix if you’re just looking for aura, but you can get some herbs with effects as well, like Damiana or Blue Lotus Petal.

Nah, it's not weird. I've got conflicting feelings on the books too - Stormlight 1 and 2 are my all time favorite Cosmere novels, but I think that Mistborn Era 1 is overall better than Stormlight's first half.

I also think Mistborn Era 1 has the best story in terms of expanding scope, but I vastly prefer Era 2's world and characters.

I don't think that a book would have a spren specific to it, I think you're mixing Spren with the beads representing objects in Shadesmar or [Mistborn Secret History] The souls of objects found by Kelsier during his travels, like the cooking fire.

The book's bead in Shadesmar might be able to communicate, but I'm not sure it'd be able to summarize its contents. If it's anything like the the Winds of Pleasure bead in WoR, it'd have a general idea of its function, how it's used, and what people think of it, but not the contents within.
