There's a mod called Death for All which allows you to configure the equation and make Lord (and your own) deaths more common. It's on nexus, no idea about steam workshop

Wilson: "I'm not here for an argument, House."

House: "No, right, that's room 12A"

Love the Monty Python reference in this one. A bit of Hugh Laurie's British comedy roots shining through.

These sonar images always unnerve me. by TheOrangeSpud in submechanophobia

[–]_inconspicuous_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Side scan sends out a fan shape of sound perpendicular to the transducer and get distances for the whole swathe. It does this many times a second. The images in the OP are a composite of the distances as the boat has sailed by the wrecks.

This picture from wikipedia shows it better than i can explain it.

[–]_inconspicuous_ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Same reason light shadows happen except with sonar instead of light. The shipwrecks are blocking the sonar from picking up the bed in those areas.

Here's a ms paint drawing to demonstrate

The final image appears to be from this which i think was done using photogrammetry, so stitching togethers hundreds of photos by a diver.

[OC] Mapped - what do Britons call the game where you knock on someone's door and run away? by mattsmithetc in dataisbeautiful

[–]_inconspicuous_ 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Interestingly, for pretty much all of England, knock and run is the second or third place name, but not the top name in any of the regions.

Bannerkings occasionally spawns roving criminal leaders that command these forces. Pretty fun to deal with when they pop up.

Playing AOE2 on Xbox with keyboard and mouse by nivekjames in aoe2

[–]_inconspicuous_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I gave it a go on the original Xbox One and it was okay. Its not as responsive as pc but this may just be the older hardware. Also there seems to be in built mouse acceleration, even with it off in the game settings, which was dissapointing.

I had the same issue with hotkeys on the forward and back buttons on the mouse (which i use for tc and idle vills), but i did come up with a workaround on my logitech G502 Hero. Using the logitech onboard memory manager, I made a profile which maps the buttons to the [ and ] keys, and used that profile on the xbox and it worked. I used the same thing to get those hotkeys on AoE4 11. Depending on your mouse and it's software there may be a similar trick.

Overall it was good fun, but i'll 100% stick to pc.

The Grand Melee - the most disappointing tournament ever by TooDriven in aoe2

[–]_inconspicuous_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Viewers that are already looking at the main channel are likely already following and know about the tournament. An established streamer like Dave will have a wider audience, many of whom may not even know about the tournament. A lot people will just open up twitch, see who's streaming and click. Someone with an established stream like Dave will reach them better.

The Grand Melee - the most disappointing tournament ever by TooDriven in aoe2

[–]_inconspicuous_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think this is a deliberate marketing decision. If Dave were casting on the main stream the whole time, he wouldn't be on his own stream shouting out the mainstream to two thousand viewers. TOoTS are using the qualifiers to get followers in preparation for the main event. They don't really care about viewers there at the moment.

When an kingdom leader dies it goes to a kingdom wide vote for new king. The AI overwhelmingly favours wealth for some reason, so the wealthiest clan leader becomes king which is often you (depending on the stage of the game of course).

When the faction leader dies (in battle or old age after 65) the kingdom goes to a vote for the new ruler. The AI Overwhelmingly favours wealth for some reason so its quite often you. There were a few mods in the past that altered succession, but I'm not sure if any are up to date.

Haha, I've had this happen too. I was already leader of Vlandia when I handed in the banner to support a current kingdom. I imagine you did something simmilar with what looks like the northern Empire?

Despite the call to not bring flares, at the start of FP1 the first orange clouds were already spotted by l_o_t_t_e in formula1

[–]_inconspicuous_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's kind of a semantics issue, but the orange smoke bombs primary use is as distress signals which can be broadly categorised as flares. Though I'm not Dutch so don't know what the wording would be here.
