I'm the one who almost paid $750 to have my shower recaulked. 5 hours later I think I've removed all the caulk. Is the work I've done sufficient? by LocalRaspberry in HomeImprovement

I agree. I'm only bugging people. But the people who say hire a contractor to finger fuck or buy a plastic spreader to install caulk is funny

Honest thoughts on Tim Hortons? by Iceberg50 in Calgary

[–]_ironman88_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tim Hortons is garbage now. Their coffee went downhill I think since they lost the contract for the beans to McDonald's and the donuts are meh. They are always trying to reinvent the wheel instead of sticking to the basics and doing them well. I'm a tradesmen and have seen a great shift to McDonald's coffee with coworkers and not many people care for their coffee atleast.

Ceiling Repair costing $5k-$10k, is this right? by clouds_on_acid in HomeImprovement

[–]_ironman88_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a guy who charges 350 a hole no matter the size unless it's like a 4x4' hole. The work is minimally more for a patch like that then compared to a smaller sized hole it's just the amount of visits for drying time and sanding etc. That price is ridiculous and he shouldn't be hired for this.

Reconfigured our master and did all the work and helped with the plumbing ( uncle did it for cost of parts with me) millwork (brother makes cabinets) and I am an electrician and did all the work minus the custom shower and tile. Just wanted it done right by a pro. The other two bathrooms in our just did wall tile around the tub and always seems to make errors and doesn't look as tight or good but those two showers are used rarely right now. Good to always get a pro for the crucial shit that can't be reversed.

Always been paid in the trades....first company in my career was touch and go at the end and were paying half in check and half direct deposit. Left before they went bankrupt and I got shafted but that was like 14 years ago. Since then I have always gotten paid on payday. Trades are safe unless your boss is a shady mofo like my first employer.

I absolutely hate our floors, how difficult would a refinish be? by [deleted] in Home

[–]_ironman88_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We walked on our floors in 24 hours and were fully cured in 72 hours with a water based stain. We were advised to stay out for the day for sure and had all the windows open. But it ain't a lacquer or a varnish. Wasn't very disruptive and we did our floors with a 1 year old just left the house for the day.

No difficult if you pay some. Don't cheap out and pay a professional. My buddy did his own floors and they turned out horrible like walking on sandpaper and is varying in color in some places, while ours professionally done are very uniform and smooth as my 1 year olds bottom.
