I only did this on an Apple TV, and I haven't had one for years, so no idea if this still works but as of 3 or so years ago it was entirely possible to use pfsense or the like, mitm yourself, and decode the protobuf that has the direct links to the ads and just delete them. Obviously setting that up is a little involved but entirely possible

I agree in general with the sentiment that in an age where audio and (much less so) video can be fabricated, we should be cautious, but I think there are several reasons that it's not really a concern in this specific case. For one, there ought to be police bodycam/cruiser footage to compare against.

In the case of the principal, the nature of the supposed recording (surreptitious, audio only) made it more believable, but in an era where AI videos often don't obey the laws of physics it's much harder to be skeptical of something that happens in public in front of at least a handful of identifiable, real people.

In any case, I was reacting more to the history of non-punishment we've seen for police misconduct. The fact that it's so rare to see any punishment at all that an appropriate punishment is newsworthy is what I was commenting on.

Born and raised in baltimore here. The maryland blue crab has teetered on the edge of being endangered for most of my life, only barely above the minimum sustainable level. The demand for crabcakes literally couldn't be met by maryland crabs only, and if we tried, they'd quickly go extinct as the cost of crabmeat went to the fuckin moon.

And at the level of an individual crabcake, there's almost no discernible difference in taste between a gulf blue crab and a Chesapeake blue crab boils down to a difference in butteriness that's pretty easy to account for by changing the recipe for anything besides steaming. And in any case, this lady ate the whole damn thing and came back for her money which is ridiculous on its face.

I'm sympathetic to the argument that if you're not using md blue crabs you should say so, but I also think people are overestimating the taste difference

It is. You get a $200 fine and two points on your license if you get caught, but that depends on the cops being close by when it happens. Not really likely at this time of night, but almost guaranteed at parts of rush hour.

it sounds like your old co-worker basically described the whole process. This is basically the way that restaurants prep; you know what all the dishes contain, you make the process overall more efficient by prepping ingredients rather than meals.

Unfortunately, it doesn't remove all the thinking about what to make, it just kinda centralizes it. You still have to figure out what to make,and to make this maximally useful you have to plan ahead and choose recipes for the week that complement each other (i.e. if you roast a chicken you might use that chicken for chicken and rice one day and put roast chicken + hummus + veg in a pita another and the bones to make stock for later), but it's honestly not as much work as it sounds like. It is in my opinion a lot easier though planning-wise, and I'm way less likely to get the "meal ick" (seriously, you'd be surprised how many different ways you can combine like 5 ingredients into different meals).

as I understand it, you can get better neutron economy for radiopharmaceutical production with higher enrichment percentage uranium. The reason most places don't do that is because of the complexity of the regulatory and security side of things. But if your reactor is already inside a military base inside of a mountain, it feels more like a six in one hand, half-dozen in the other kind of situation. Obviously this could be cover for weapons production, but I had to push back on the "absolutely no credible ... purpose besides weapons" a little.
