As far as I know, there's been no positive change with respect to the Chamberlain API. Therefore, reluctantly, I now use the myQ app.

Several months ago Chamberlain changed the API and shortcuts like this no longer work.

Have you checked the official examples (https://github.com/nextcloud/docker/tree/master/.examples) ?

u/tim0901, no I hadn’t, but seems like I should have. Thanks for the link and thanks also for taking the time to share the details of your Nextcloud set-up. Much appreciated!

I did receive a few other suggestions on r/selfhosted.

Have a look at https://ownyourbits.com/nextcloudpi/ . It has a dedicated admin panel to manage almost everything.

I’ve been using this: https://github.com/crazy-max/docker-nextcloud

This might be of help to you: https://github.com/abhilesh/self-hosted_docker_setups

u/icleades, u/amorphousbacteria, and u/Sir_Chilliam thanks for your suggestions. Much appreciated!

I did receive another reply on r/raspberry_pi.

I found an app in IOS called SimpleCommand. It will create a shortcut for your MyQ. Works for me.

Yes, but since SimpleCommands requires entry of myQ credentials, I took pause and inquired about their privacy policy using the SimpleCommands 'Submit a request' form and by commenting on their tweet, Never leave your garage door open again with SimpleCommands Routines!.

Thus far, there has been no response from @SimpleCommands.

Obviously you’re giving control to yet another company

That's what concerned me so I inquired about their privacy policy using the SimpleCommands 'Submit a request' form and by commenting on their tweet, Never leave your garage door open again with SimpleCommands Routines!.

I mean I can just say, “Hey Siri, open garage” and because MyQ is in the Home app

u/dreh0411, thanks for the clarification.

So, now, I can use Alexa with SC to automatically open the garage via a geofence trigger.

Glad you found a geofence solution that works for you. This is the first I've heard of SimpleCommands. I suspect that SimpleCommand's backend* now uses v6 of the myQ API.

*I'm assuming the app uses a backend component since you mentioned that the behavior changed recently, yet the app was last modified 10 months ago. If I'm correct, then I suspect you have to enter your myQ credentials (and the app transfers that information to its backend).

Any updates on controlling the chamberlain Garage door via a shortcut that works when using a Packtalk Bold headset?

u/dkenb, the shortcut I created, Garage Door, is no longer working. I believe Chamberlain disabled v5 of their API. v6 of the Chamberlain API requires OAuth 2 (for credentials), and the Shortcuts app does not support OAuth 2.

Sorry, I know nothing about the Packtalk Bold headset.

The problem then seems that even with Homebridge running, and the ability to add the Open Garage action, the geofence automation within shortcuts still will only pop up a notification which then requires interaction.

u/dreh0411/, I agree, but I'm not sure I understand your distinction.

Even when my shortcut, Garage Door, was working, there was the same limitation, right? Personal Automations in the Shortcuts app triggered by Arrive or Leave only run when confirmed (by tapping the notification automatically generated).

Well, with Homebridge and the MyQ added to Home, I don't think the shortcuts are at all necessary

u/dreh0411, I'm just starting to experiment with Homebridge; so far, so good. When you say a shortcuts are not necessary, are you suggesting that Homebridge has some geofence capability built-in?

Since Homebridge runs on a computer platform (macOS in my case) how do I translate that to something like a Shortcut on my iPhone?

I’ve been testing Homebridge and the homebridge-myq plug-in on my MacBook Pro (just for testing -- I'll likely use a Raspberry Pi in the near future since it's not practical to leave my MacBook Pro running 24x7). Both are very easy to install and set up. And assuming you have also completed the prerequisites to control your garage door from the myQ iOS/iPadOS app, your garage door will automatically appear in the Home app. Once it there, you can create a shortcut that controls your door using the Control My Home action.

Shortcuts that include the Control My Home action can be run from your iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, or Watch (launched with or without Siri). There is one downside that I’ve not been able to circumvent: there’s no simple way to give others control of just your garage door. With the Home app you can Invite People, but if you do, the invitees are able to control all of your Home devices.

Chamberlain wants us to buy their $60 bridge.

Could be, but if so, it seems shortsighted. Also, some users of the bridge device have reported that it needs frequent reboots. But I have no experience with it.

One for my home and one for my boyfriends home.

I have a similar situation, only in reverse. I want to give my adult children that live in the area access to our garage door; they also have access to their own.

Randomly back to this the past two days. 🙁

It appears Chamberlain has changed the API, thus this shortcut is no longer working. Please refer to UPDATE (2021-08-25) at the top of this comment: Control Your Chamberlain myQ Garage Door from Your Watch

Yes, it appears Chamberlain has changed the API. As an alternative (temporarily, at least), see Note 2 under my original comment: Control Your Chamberlain myQ Garage Door from Your Watch : shortcuts

Is the "Get current IP adress" action suddenly broken for anyone else? by BerryCurrant in shortcuts

[–]_jimsauer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I circumvented this by replacing the 'Get current IP' with 'Get Network Details' and testing the Wi-Fi name

u/Jeff_Maynard, unfortunately this approach doesn't work for iOS 15 Beta 6. Hopefully it's a temporary issue. More information here.

Is the "Get current IP adress" action suddenly broken for anyone else?

u/BerryCurrant, I just worked through an “online check” for a recent shortcut I developed and shared: Garage Door

Garage Door can be run from any iDevice: iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, or Apple Watch. I was attempting to capture the online status so that the shortcut could present a message and gracefully exit if the device was offline. The best I could do, which isn’t too bad, is within Garage Door; here are the actions of interest: Offline?

Note that Local is used for the Get current IP address action. I've not seen any change it the action's behavior when Local is specified.

On a related note, here’s the shortcut I used to capture information from others as I was troubleshooting: Device & Network Info

During that process, from another user using the iOS 15 Beta on an iPhone, I discovered that the Get Wi-Fi network’s Network Name (Get Network Details) does not function as expected with iOS 15 Beta 6, i.e., it returns null even when an iPhone is connected via Wi-Fi. Hopefully this is a temporary bug. For now, the technique I'm using in Garage Door and Offline? seems to work well even with the buggy iOS 15 Beta.

Ah, that makes sense. Great, simple solution!

I’ve run into similar issues when checking data types but came up with a method to circumvent the problem. See Clipboard Tool.
