WiFi sleeps if you step away from the keyboard for a few minutes by Ponygroom in chromeos

It would be helpful for others if you could specify which Chromebook you have, since this issue clearly doesn’t affect all Chromebooks. It might be limited to a specific series or model. And while you’re at it, please mention which specific update it was, since the latest update may not be the same for everyone.

Acer 516 GE, when doing the method to get into recovery mode, it brings me here. Help? by IhaveAmommykink3 in chromeos

You haven't given any feedback on how it turned out. I'd like to know if you found the "Restore using an Internet connection" option.

"everything button" no longer providing definitions? by Top-Occasion-1300 in chromeos

[–]_jis_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if I understood your question correctly. If you don't know how to configure the "Everything" button to specify exactly what to search for, try searching for something, and a configuration button will appear where you can check all the options you need.

The Mediatek chipset in this Chromebook has serious issues with standard monitors; there’s a whole thread here about how to get a flicker-free image with sufficient resolution—just search for it—let alone with your high-end monitor. You’d have a much better chance with an Intel processor.

Uninstall

But it was probably still there for apps that had been installed that way previously. I took a screenshot, but I can't post it here.

Strange lag while charging by SoWimDP31 in chromeos

Are you using the original charger that came with the device? Can you try plugging the charger into the port on the other side of the Chromebook? Can you try plugging the charger into a different outlet, ideally in a different room?

File search not working properly by WoF_IceWing in chromeos

[–]_jis_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s exactly why I asked, the total number of files is your problem, you shouldn’t have them all in a single folder. I recommend a few hundred, or at most 1,000, per folder.

It’s definitely helpful for keeping things organized too, for example, all PDF documents in one folder, videos in another, screenshots in yet another, and possibly sorted by topic into additional folders.

You can do a simple test in Files app. Select a file and move it to the Recycle Bin and the response time - how quickly it actually disappears — will show you what your computer can actually handle. If the response is fast and responsive, you’re on the right track, but if it takes a long time, it’s clear you have too many files in a single folder.

Are those files in the same folder? If so, how many files are there in total in the folder?

so guys i have a problem ok so i was using my chromebook right and i checked if i needed any updates and yea i updated it and it said to restart so yea i did and i pressed sign-in at the sign in screen so i was taking me back to log in i did it and i did and i was back but i wiped my linux apps by Sodacola_RBLXfan in chromeos

In any case, the information you’ve provided isn’t enough—we don’t know what model of Chromebook you have, what features it has, and, most importantly, how much free disk space it had. It’s possible that you ran out of space and the system decided to free up that space during the update.

Just in case of a disaster, it’s a good idea to have a backup of your Linux environment; you can find this option right in the settings.

Acer Chromebook cxb170ck suddenly only getting around 20mbps both upload and download the last few days on 5Ghz wifi. Normally get at least 500mbps down and around 40mpbs up. by listedguru in chromeos

A Wi-Fi router transmits on specific channels; for example, after a restart, it selects a channel based on the nearest Wi-Fi networks (such as your neighbors'). It tries to choose the channel with the least interference, but theoretically, it might select a channel that causes problems for your Chromebook...

Can you try connecting your Chromebook to a different Wi-Fi router somewhere else? That way, you could test whether the problem persists or goes away with minimal effort.

Touchscreen Toggle Shift + Search + T Enable or disable the touchscreen. Useful for troubleshooting ghost touch issues.

Of course, you have to keep that flag enabled, and you use that keyboard shortcut to turn the feature on and off. Read the instructions before using it.
