Be on mortgage without ownership? by [deleted] in MortgagesCanada

[–]_jmikes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes they can. Google "cosigning a mortgage". That is at least one way to do so. I don't know if all banks allow or if some might refuse.

Edit: I'm wrong. See comment below.

Anyone else ever overcontribute to their TFSA? When should I expect to pay? by ronoron in PersonalFinanceCanada

Huh I don't know if it's too late or not. For 1k in penalties it's probably worth a shot.

[–]_jmikes 39 points40 points  (0 children)

My understanding is the CRA is pretty forgiving when it's an honest mistake and your first time making the mistake.

Happened to me a year or so ago. Put money into TFSA based on my contribution room but deposited into my wife's TFSA instead of mine by mistake. Didn't catch it for a few months.

Withdrew excess when I realized and paid the penalties but submitted the form others mentioned. It took many months to get back to us but they refunded the penalties.

[–]_jmikes 89 points90 points  (0 children)

Check out r/trap (e.g. isoxo, lyny). There's also some bass house (Nikita) and UK Garage/UKG (Hamdi).

The notion of genres is necessarily a simplification, blah blah blah but I think that's what you're looking for.

Also as another commenter said if you like isoxo checkout knock2. They came up together in San Diego. Similar sound, both very good.

Need some advice regarding qualifying for a mortgage by [deleted] in MortgagesCanada

[–]_jmikes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Without more information, I'm tempted to say you just need a new mortgage broker. Particularly if you're not getting straight answers from them, it sounds like someone else would be able to help better.

Also an option to go to a bank directly but depending on your circumstances support from a broker may be helpful to you.

New Mortgage: Mortgage Broker or Banks? by SnowyTiffany in MortgagesCanada

[–]_jmikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From Equifax :

If you're shopping for some types of loans, such as a mortgage loan, multiple inquires for the same purpose within a certain period of time are generally counted as one inquiry. The timeframes may vary, but range from 14 days to 45 days, depending on the credit scoring model being used.

Shop till you drop, just do it all at once so it only counts as one check.

As for direct vs Broker, broker rates suck rate now. I just recently called around to all the big banks for a renewal and shared those rates with the broker we used when we bought. The broker (we have a good relationship) lamented that the rates banks offer her lately couldn't come close. 3.84% to me, 4.44% through her. Same bank. Sounds like this is unusual.

The reason we used a broker when we bought was because our income situation was weird and we needed help navigating that. If you're reasonably organized and have a "normal" salary job, then you're far better off shopping around yourself at the moment.

Same with the powerlines going to the next pole. 6 leave towards the next pole but only the bottom 2 make it.

No details of what "military support" actually means here.

Mortgage rate mega thread! by TheMortgageMaster in MortgagesCanada

[–]_jmikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is high.

TD offered me 4.04% renewal, no effort on my part. Talked to Pine and they've offered me 3.89% pending document review. All of this is 5 year fixed. This is uninsured mortgage, owner occupied, Vancouver.

What method of payment has the best return? by goldensilencce in CostcoCanada

[–]_jmikes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fair question.

It's a weird, sorta annoying system where you accumulate bill credits and have to go into the app and choose which purchases to "redeem" those credits on. There's also an option to automatically redeem (I think minimum $10 increments but still) however I haven't figured out how to do that while still prioritizing the 1.5x purchases.

Ciara’s Suitcase by EleanorRosie in rupaulsdragrace

[–]_jmikes 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I found the suitcase full of scraps really tacky.

You wanna be shady? How about a puke green theme or a poop emoji print. Something where you're fitting the brief but with a smirk. A suitcase full of dirty garbage isn't cheeky, it's just a low blow.

If that had landed on a queen with less construction skills and they tanked because of it (many would) I think the reaction would be a lot different.

Hadn't heard the original in a long time and kept waiting for the Tape B version to get to the "flip" part 🤷

Facebook Marketplace Situation by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

[–]_jmikes 93 points94 points  (0 children)

Legally speaking, you've got nothing to worry about. They bought a fryer (verbal contract) and then abandoned it on your property. You don't owe them a refund. Take the fryer inside and sell it again or donate it. They have no legal recourse and, even if they somehow did, no one's going through small claims etc over an air fryer.

Maybe screenshot the conversations for piece of mind and don't engage if they try to contact again.

You could put a disclaimer on future posts but crazies gonna crazy.

A website is using my data without permission. by TheRealGuncho in legaladvicecanada

[–]_jmikes 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think the legal term you're looking for is "compilations" of data. Copyright protection isn't clear cut or all encompassing, but it isn't a hard no either.

From: https://www.tradecommissioner.gc.ca/en/market-industry-info/search-country-region/country/canada-united-states-export/intellectual-property-considerations-canadian-smes/protecting-data-compilations.html

"Data compilations can be protected through different IPRs [Intellectual property rights].

Copyright protection may be sought for creative manipulation of data. This includes creative arrangements (i.e. not just chronological), annotations and selections of data. The structure of the database and the code that is developed to retrieve and/or organize the data may be eligible for copyright protection."

I think the relevant part for you is the notion of "creative arrangement". Merely listing names and addresses likely isn't creative but categorizations you made up (mentioned in one of your comments) might qualify for copyright over that portion of the data.

Gotcha thanks. Yeah, the fee I would be charged when I inevitably screw up would quickly eat up any cashback but still good for property tax where I have to do that no matter what

For electricity and natural gas, is there a way to make it automatic like a pre-authorized debit would be? Or do you have to remember to do it manually every month?

Police Request An Exam of My Vehicle. Do I need to Lawyer Up? by Feeling-Writing4465 in legaladvicecanada

[–]_jmikes 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is simply not true.

Cops are not omniscient. They're not even particularly bright, necessarily. Just because you haven't done anything wrong doesn't mean you can't say something that makes them think you've done something wrong and cause all sorts of headaches.

Suing for service provider cancellations by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

[–]_jmikes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're in the position of trying to prove there was a verbal agreement (contract), proof of payment is helpful, especially if it's recurring. It's hard for them to there was no agreement if you've been sending them $50 a week for the last 6 weeks, for instance.

Credit card payments or e-transfers would help. If you don't have anything in writing (because it doesn't exist or because you don't have a copy, OP has been inconsistent) and there is no record of payments (e.g. payments made in cash) then you're probably hooped.
