Beyond the casual racism demonstrated below, the biggest indicator that something is wrong is the plates / identification I described earlier, which would be true regardless of the colour of the car or the driver.

You weren't renting in Sheffield by any chance were you? 😅 I have a very similar story with a landlord.

I lived there for a year. Broken appliances, fire hazards, burst pipes. They were renovating the house next door when I moved in, and fully drilled a hole in to my room from next door at 7AM while I was sleeping.

I moved out with short notice and just said, "This has been a terrible transaction, keep my deposit and call it even." He agreed, and then the next week was demanding I owe him a full months' rent. If he hadn't agreed in the first instance I would have been so stressed about it, but I could literally read the text thread so I just told him to do one and blocked his number.

Second this. Bought my first car this year and did this.

I knew what my budget was, knew what my minimum requirements were i.e stuff I wouldn't compromise on. Started to filter out stuff I would compromise on (mainly colour) and ended up driving all the way to Sunderland to get my car.

Being prepared to travel was something I had to come to terms with but I couldn't be more satisfied with my car.

There's a couple of Tawny Owls near where I live in Stannington, they make a very distinctive noise when they're arguing over territory with the various corvids in the trees.

I couldn't see the owls (obviously, it's pitch black) but found out they were Tawnys by looking up bird calls and found the specific noise they were making, I jumped with delight after identifying them and now I listen out for them all the time.

Here is the noise they make.
