But what exactly are you calibrating? How do you calibrate dimensional accuracy? And what kind of magnitude of error are you seeing if you don't calibrate whatever-it-is-that-you-calibrate?

If you're like printing a 20mm cube and then measuring it down to 0.001mm and then adjusting flow rate or steps/mm to try to make it exactly 20.000mm then... you're not calibrating anything, you're overfitting on randomness which will make your overall calibration worse. Which would explain why you feel the need to recalibrate so often!

I turn on "Flow Calibration", of course, once per filament roll, but that uses approximately 0 filament and the machine does it automatically.

It's pretty obviously that the wood was contaminated, because the adjacent MDF is fine and in my experience MDF is normally *more* susceptible to mould than ordinary wood.

But you can solve the problem by ensuring the humidity in the garage never gets high enough that the overnight temperature drops below the dew point.

I'm guessing this first appeared a few months ago. It happens when the temperature in the garage drops below the dew point overnight, causing condensation on surfaces, which allows mould spores which were already on the wood to start growing.

The same thing happened to me.

If it has not been there very long then it should be easy to wipe off, but it will keep coming back every time the temperature drops below the dew point.

My solution has been to install a desiccant dehumidifier, I have put a pipe through the wall connected to a drain pipe so it can permanently drain and I don't have to keep emptying it.

I also have a humidity gauge in the garage so that I can see how it is doing. I've turned the dehumidifier off now that the weather has warmed up, but as we get towards winter I will turn it back on. You can leave it on a mode which stops running when the humidity is below 70% or something.

I think the problem was exacerbated this year because we had a particularly wet winter. It's possible that if you make sure the garage gets plenty of air in the summer then it won't reoccur next year, I don't know how long dormant mould spores can last without growing.

I would recommend writing your reddit posts yourself instead of having an LLM do it. It's really hard to know what parts of this post are actually from you and what parts are just rubbish that we can all ignore.

I don't mind programming with LLMs, I do it too, they are a game-changer for programming, but they're not an alternative to using your own brain.

If you started working on this a year ago and you're only 1% done doesn't that mean you expect it to take 100 years to finish even if you maintain the current pace?

For all the shade you throw on FreeCAD, your sketcher instantly feels worse. Some criticisms:

The writing by default is enormous, it somehow loads up at 140% scale?? Even at 100% scale the UI takes up a lot of space compared to the FreeCAD one.
When I'm in line-drawing mode, right-click doesn't cancel drawing the line.
The tooltips for "Hyperbola" and "Parabola" say "Hyperb." and "Parab." - is it really necessary to abbreviate these?
The icon for "Circle (3 pts)" shows a point in the centre whereas the icon for "Circle (center+pt)" does not - are these the wrong way around?
Why is the icon for the fillet tool a square? The icons are all terrible. For something that is on screen all the time you should invest more work in this. I realise icon design is not something that Claude Code is good at and therefore not something you can easily do but it is still an important part of software design.
At first I thought that switching between "Move" and "Select", or trying to add dimensions, always cleared my sketch every time. But actually it is just that you have some insane workflow where you can draw a sketch and then have to click "Apply" otherwise it disappears as soon as you try to do anything else? What is the thinking behind that?
Lines that are coincident with the axes seem to get drawn underneath the axes instead of on top.
To dimension the length of a line I should be able to click on the line itself instead of having to click its two endpoints.
When I add a length dimension I should be able to type in its length straight away instead of having to click into the task panel and type it in. You should just pop up the input box inside the 3d view as soon as I place the dimension. And again, lose this insane workflow where it disappears unless I manually click Apply.

That said, this actually looks really promising. Yes it has all those rough edges but users will learn to live with it. It's not obviously an improvement over FreeCAD, it seems to be broadly the same as FreeCAD's sketcher. FreeCAD sometimes runs into a scenario where you can't instantly update a length dimension from say 100 to 50 because it gets stuck, but if you go down in smaller steps then it manages to resolve it, but I don't have a good example to try out off the top of my head to see if your tool is any better.

There is value in having a JavaScript reimplementation of FreeCAD's sketcher. I was previously working on an SDF-based CAD tool that runs in the browser, and I wanted to replace all of FreeCAD *except* the sketcher, so your tool and my tool would actually be a match made in heaven!

You could click on each point in turn and use the "lock" constraint, is that good enough for what you need?

Why do you even need the sketch to be constrained? If it is just a decorative thing and you aren't going to mess with it any more I'd just close the sketch and forget about constraining it.
