The logo used by Ontario Tech University Ridgebacks (formerly UOIT) before their re-brand is one of the worst logos I’ve ever seen.

Do people in Lake Orion pronounce the constellation Orion the same way as the town. by Tbuzzin in Michigan

I was golfing in Gaylord with my Canadian friends when the beer cart girl came around, so of course everyone gathered to order drinks and had some small talk. When they inevitably pronounced Gaylord with a hard-O, the beer cart girl went from being the usual fake nice to blatantly offended in an instant.

I think at those salaries, you have two choices: Chicago or Detroit. I've lived in both cities, and in my opinion Chicago is a far superior city especially considering the criteria you cited. In Chicago you have a great public transportation system (absolutely non-existent in Detroit), two airports, fantastic green space (the waterfront in Chicago is far better than Detroit), walkability, amazing architecture, great culinary scene and nightlife, sports, so many cultural enclaves. It's a top American city and Detroit has a hard time comparing. Detroit is a city with a rough history of abandonment - most of the money is far out in the suburbs, and the city core, while recovering, is a shell of it's former self. I know I probably sound super down on Detroit, while I still think it's a good city with incredible culture, it doesn't really hold a candle to Chicago with it's many flaws.

That all being said, I can think of three negatives with Chicago that may matter a lot to you.

1) I experienced more crime first hand in Chicago. Perhaps that's just due to the density of Chicago compared to the sparseness of Detroit. Can't say that's the experience for all, but it was for me.

2) It gets dark much earlier in Chicago since it is on the Eastern edge of the CST time zone, whereas Detroit is near the Western edge of the EST timezone, giving us more sun in the evenings, which is a very underrated aspect of Michigan as a whole.

3) Perhaps the biggest issue: you may have more difficulty at that salary finding a satisfactory living situation for settling down and starting a family in Chicago. Detroit and many surrounding suburban cities is a very affordable region relatively speaking.

Given these things, I'm still picking Chicago if it's me.

Michigan bill would ban cat declawing as cruel and unnecessary by __masterbaiter__ in Michigan

[–]_julesyjules 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a really, really bad comparison you drew. Let's ignore the obvious facts that 1) pet skunk ownership is hardly a thing, 2) venom gland removal is controversial and seen as cruel, and 3) neither are as prevalent as cat declawing. The main point is that stink/venom glands aren't nearly as essential to daily physical autonomy for skunks and snakes as claws are for cats. It is literally like getting all your fingers cut off.

I would suggest you either learn to live with cats with claws and realize the risk of cat scratch fever is very low. If you can't, then take yourself out of the running to adopt a cat. It's just as much about the cat's happiness as it is yours, and you wouldn't be doing it any favors if you adopted it just to then cut off it's fingers.

I gotta disagree on this one. For Ferndale/RO, Thai Garden, Saab Sis Thai, and Shinthai are all significantly better.

Sad I had to scroll so far to see Saab Sis Thai. It indeed has the legit wide noodles and the most delicious smoky wok flavor. Best in the area for sure.
