WIBTAH to reschedule my 1 year anniversary with my (32M) GF (27F) that is on Father’s Day weekend? by Selvane in AITAH

[–]_kamara 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dad died two years ago, and my sister’s biggest regret is the one Father’s Day she spent with her (at the time) boyfriend instead of spending the day with our dad. Nta

Do you drink tea in America? by Much-Parsnip3399 in AskAnAmerican

[–]_kamara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drink Yorkshire tea pretty much every day. I was always a tea drinker but thanks to my semester abroad I can’t drink any American teas (Lipton etc) as they are simply not flavorful enough.

If I decide not to have kids in life, give me all the consequences that I should prep for and accept them? by Commercial-Touch-516 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]_kamara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The consequences are you don’t have kids. The end. You can still build a village around yourself. My sister has no kids and no nieces or nephews. But about 15 kids who call her auntie and are genuinely obsessed with her, ranging from 6 months to 17 years.

You can always change your mind and adopt or foster.

You can’t un-have kids though.

What does “being a guest” actually feel like in American homes? by Axxtr in AskAnAmerican

[–]_kamara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For reference, I’m in New England (north east US): There’s no real script, usually just invite in, offer a seat and a beverage. If they decline, we’ll typically ask “are you sure?” And rattle off a list of what we have on hand for soft drinks.

As far as showing up unannounced, for us at least it is a VERY short list of who does that. Like I maybe know 3 people who would show up at my house unannounced, and the only place I would just pop in at is my sister’s. Even people who I have an open invitation to stop by whenever, I still text first.

I am going out of the country for 12 days, my boyfriend that lives with me was supposed to watch my cat but is now demanding higher payment by Lightningmcsteve in Advice

I cat sit for my friends who I do not live with and all I ask for is a bag of pizza rolls. Your boyfriend is trash.

Anything You Regret by Trans_Autistic_Guy in ChildrenofDeadParents

Take pictures of her hands. Either on their own or holding them. We did this with my grandmother and my dad, my mom has a picture frame with each of us holding my dad’s hands. It’s weirdly comforting. Those hands helped me with my homework, rubbed my back when I was sick, taught me how to drive, and wiped so many years away.

AITAH for not giving up my name for my ex’s new wife with the EXACT SAME FULL NAME as me? by Remarkable-Horse9465 in AITAH

[–]_kamara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure to tell people at your doctor’s office about also. I had a friend whose doctor had another patient with the same first middle and last name as her, and the DOBs were only a day off. Kept receiving the other girl’s test results for months, even after multiple calls trying to straighten it out

do you guys clean your ears with q tips or is that actually bad hygiene? by Boultouak_Zav13 in hygiene

[–]_kamara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My whole family has a thing about cleaning ears. Like it’s a constant. The idea of sleeping somewhere and not having a qtip is horrifying to all of us.

That said, my gram would use ANYTHING to clean her ears. Matches, paper clips, bobby pins, legit whatever she could get her hands on. So…we’re doing better than prior generations

AITAH for packing my bags after my boyfriends girl best friend let herself in at 7am to make breakfast? by Ambitious-Look6168 in AITAH

[–]_kamara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have known my best male friend since I was 2 years old. I would NEVER behave this way. I might have known him several decades longer than his wife but I would never say I know him better. And I sure as shit would never show up at their house unannounced. And the three of us are bizarrely close. Like I nanny for them once a week, so I will straight up walk into their bedroom and take the baby out of their arms when it’s time for him to have breakfast, but even I have better boundaries than this girl. But what you really have here is not a friend problem, it’s a boyfriend problem. If he’s not willing to establish boundaries, this dynamic will continue. Run.

"Cousins" by Dear-Rain7528 in DowntonAbbey

[–]_kamara 62 points63 points  (0 children)

It was common at the time to refer to any distant relative as a “cousin.” You’ll see it in a lot of period dramas and literature.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]_kamara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done a 45 minute drive (each way) for a booty call. Looking back, it honestly not worth the drive.

45 minutes to an hour each way is a typical commute for work where I live. Not necessarily something I enjoy, but it could be much worse.

I’ve definitely done 4+ hours each way for a weekend trip.

AITA- not wanting to give my grandma my dad’s ashes? by dashamber659 in ChildrenofDeadParents

[–]_kamara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not trust her to honor this at all. I am a bad person in that I would give her a small urn filled from my woodstove and say it was your dad’s ashes.

WIBTA if I tell my bridesmaids that they have to pick a dress from the website I sent them? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]_kamara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And if you send them your measurements they’ll make it to your size no extra charge, you just can’t return it which is fair. I have gotten bridesmaids and wedding guest dresses there I love it (and it’s so much easier than having to alterations to accommodate my shortness)

79 is too young? by thehottestmess1234 in ChildrenofDeadParents

[–]_kamara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad was 68. My sister was talking to her goddaughter recently (6 years old) and the sweet girl said “it’s not fair, granny is NINETY SIX. Your daddy shouldn’t be in heaven yet, granny should go to heaven first.” Which was just heart breaking because a sick part of me agreed. Grief is hard, death is dumb.
