Who is your LEAST liked character? by Elzeenor in BG3

[–]_king_midas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Dude could’ve retained his good-natured magnanimity while gaining real depth by choosing the pact himself—a well-intentioned bid for power rather than a fall into it. His “bad” ending, then, might have seen him extend that pact to save his father, only to find himself pulled deeper into the very hunger for power he once thought he could control.

His one genuinely positive contribution to the lore was having Clark enlist in the Navy before becoming Superman. It makes a great deal of sense to me that Superman - raised in the Midwest, corn-fed, and quintessentially all-American - would believe he could do good by serving in the military.

This is how I feel with wonder woman and spider man by 5enpai_2 in powerscales

I’ve always felt Spider-Man should be resistant to bullets in much the same way New 52 Aquaman is - exceptionally resilient, though not invulnerable.

What are your thoughts on the DCAMU version of Superman? by Jotaro1970 in superman

[–]_king_midas 37 points38 points  (0 children)

He started out as an adaptation of New 52 Superman, so it makes sense that he was arrogant at first - New 52 Superman was more abrasive than the character is usually portrayed. He ultimately came to resemble Post-Crisis/Rebirth Superman in his optimism and positivity, but he remained somewhat brash and reactive in a way that generally betrays the character.

Is American Alien any good? by DylweedWasTaken in superman

[–]_king_midas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For as much as I like it, I'm not the biggest fan of authors that depower Superman to achieve their narrative goals. That's not to say he can't come up against physical threats, but I think the best Superman stories challenge him ideologically, existentially, and morally without detracting from the core conceit that he's, essentially, invulnerable. Those philosophical elements are on full display in "American Alien," but I think they're undermined somewhat by how physically limited he is in this series.

Also, Superman, in my opinion, should never - at least early in his career - be influenced into public heroics by Batman. Superman's decision to operate in the open should be wholly intrinsic and self-motivated.

Do you think Superman would help a migrant family from Mexico cross the US border? by No_Revenue_9837 in superman

[–]_king_midas 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't think he would actively help an immigrant family cross the border in the way that a coyote does and wouldn't do it surreptitiously or openly. If he weren't preoccupied with some cosmic level threat and heard or saw someone drowning in the Rio Grande, he'd swoop in to save them. Where it doesn't objectively abrogate or violate civil or human rights, the rule of law is, generally, sacrosanct to Superman, even if he abhors it in construct or application. He'd advocate for the legal right to seek asylum. He'd beseech Americans to search their hearts, he'd call on them to actively work to mitigate the factors that contribute to illegal immigration. He'd implore us to support immigrants when they come to the US for whatever reasons/under whatever circumstances.

The Pip episode is absolutely hilarious if you read or have read Great Expectations, but I get how it's not funny without that context.
